ClickOnline.com - The Darkness II Review

ClickOnline.com Writes: "Rather than changing their approach in order to appeal to a more mass market group of players, Digital Extremes has instead decided to continue from where they left off, and The Darkness II is every bit as atmospheric and intense as the original – only this time they’ve really cranked it up a notch."

Really excited for this game. 5-6 hour campaign is a tad disappointing, but the unique/fresh elements of this game (art style, quad wielding, darkness powers) is enough to make up for it in my opinion.

5 to 6 hour is worth a rent in my opinion. Less it had amazing online or a lower retail price.

6 hour campaign is really putting me off tbh. The first Darkness was fairly lengthy. I've gone from day one to uncertain.

DazeLokrotan4827d ago

But if you think about it, the first game was only long because of the extensive (and tedious) backtracking. Even then, it felt like it was only 6 hours sans (or maybe even plus) side missions because of how empty the levels were and there were so few enemies to kill.

Yeah, to many other games commin in feb to waste 65 bucks on a 5 or 6 hour game. Rent it for 5 bucks, beat it in an afternoon. You'll thank urself later.

Man this sounds fantastic. I've been waiting for that game for more than 4 years. The first one is still one of the best games I've ever played. Sure it wasn't perfect gameplay-wise but the deep atmosphere is still one of a kind. The 6 hour campaign doesn't bother me in any way. Remember Heavenly Sword and it's 5 hour campaign? It was still worth 60€ for me more than some long games.

This is why I don't buy video games anymore. I have a huge Steam backlog and developers are gracious enough to offer their products for free. Fortnite is free, Darkness is free, lots of good free games. Thanks Humble

Nice thanks for the heads up.

I had a blast with the 1st one. It was perfect. The 2nd not that much, was pretty forgettable tbh and the cell shading, although beautiful, was not my kind of tea

That said, if they make a 3rd one they should make it a bit closer to the original's...vibe and looks.

kevnb2716d ago

Its not even made by the same team, I hate when publishers do that.

veicht2716d ago

I still enjoyed 2, it still kept some of the neat things from the first one. Having said that, the first is considerably better, I'd rather the 3rd (somehow) end up being made by machine games which seems to be where a fair amount of the darkness/butchers bay devs ended up.

chris2352716d ago

are we talking switch ports again or why is another lastGen game in the headlines?

ctrlxthroat2716d ago

I'm still hoping for a pc rerelease of the original.

I personally enjoyed this one more than first game (even though I think first one is good too)

The Darkness: A Greek tragedy for the video game age - G4@Syfygames

Matt Ferguson from G4@Syfygames writes "When I think of tragic love stories and star-crossed lovers, I can't recall a more heart-wrenching example than Jackie Estacado and Jenny Romano from The Darkness. What begins as a romantic story between two people from very different worlds ends abruptly in a horrific tragedy, drawing many parallels from the works of Classical Greek tragedians and epic poets."

I agree! That was a great game with well played characters.

Kallisti3350d ago

Still own a copy of both of them. The Darkness III on PS4/PC/XONE would be awesome.
