From gamerstemple.com: You would need a good reason to say you missed or didn’t like Gears of War 2, but Gears of War 3 has few, if any, weak points. Maybe it caters a bit to the more casual gaming audience, but not to the extent of Gears 2. Unless you have taken an oath to reject violence in your entertainment, there is no reason to skip Gears of War 3 – it has everything you could ask from a shooter and does them all with first class polish. If the Gears franchise has come to an end, it goes out on top of its game.

Console game scores nowadays are ridiculous... if you check Metacritic and look at movie scores, they are always pretty low; a 99 would mean, really mean, "best movie evar". But on games it's actually usual to get over a nine. If game critics were really "critical", no game would get over an 80.

So what...these are games not movies, we generally know that most good games fall into 8-10 range, anything over 9 usually means its a outstanding game, why the need for this mythical perfect scoring system for something that in the end is something so simple= mo matter how many fancy descriptive words, no matter the score, it all just an opinion. Imagine if there was this unilateral across the board standardize scoring method, I bet there would be even more complaining when great games got rated down because lets say a shooter, great in most areas recieved a really low score for the story category....most gamers know shooters dont generally tell a story that competes with rpg's like ME or Skyrim for example, shooters primarily focus on great shooting, thats why we buy them, but if there was set reviewing criteria then reviewers would have no choice but to give low marks if judge every game genre consistently. Now if you say well just adjust scoring based on genre, game type, target audience, etc then whats the point in trying to make it standardize when you going to have so many variations? imo the people who say the reviewing system is all screwed up are suffering from self inflicted wounds because instead of taking reviews for just a brief summary of one mans oppinion, they seek perfection from something that by definition is imperfect.

What you write is true and does need to be addressed. Funny thing is no one has really mentioned this before, like when Uncharted 2 was getting many 10 scores people were mostly saying "great game, totally deserves perfect scores" but when a 360 exclusive starts getting great scores people suddenly start getting all philosophical on the scoring system.

It's not that at all, all I know is when I opened this news item there was 4 separate comments and only 1 of them was related to Gears, /shrug. For the record I am system agnostic and Uncharted 2 was my game of the year (by far) for 2009.
