When It Comes to Adventure Games, Uncharted 3 Will Set the Bar

This year will will see the culmination of what the adventure genre has been striving for. Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception is scheduled to release on November 1st of this year, and the adventure genre will never be the same.

Why cant he say it? It's his opinion and he is entitled to it. For me personally Uncharted 2 is overall my favorite game of this generation and one of my favorites of all time. "If" Uncharted 3 surpasses 2 like 2 did the original? Than why not say it.

It doesn't mean it will be a fact, only an opinion. Although there is no denying how incredible Uncharted 2 was / is. It was the most decorated / award winning game in years.

have all been done before and some done nicely but none done the way ND has done UC series.

it has great story
different and beautiful settings
graphics wise its one of the best series
online is improving
co-op is nice

whenever a new action adventure games come out it will be compared to UC series so yes i do agree the bar was et with UC2 and this will just raise it even more.

when we thought ND had done the best with UC we saw the cruise ship level at e3 and the water affects and our jaws dropped one more time

I love it when Uncharted is referred to as "Adventure" or "Action/adventure" above third-person shooter.

Drake is there to go on an adventure, make discoveries and his story is told in a very personal way. When you compare that to games that are just third-person shooters it's because the main character is there to kill things.

Part 1 had an adventure feel due to the setting and story, but part 2 was an action game.

Part 1 got praised for being the best treasure hunter game ever and while part 2 was considered better by them (not me), they barely even mentioned the treasures.

Both are too linear to be considered adventure games.

You're thinking of the "Sandbox" genre.

Adventure just means you go on "adventures".

Adventure movies are also linear because they follow a script but it is still considered as an "Adventure" due to the type of locations they visit.

true but uncharted in only an adventure game in story not gameplay which makes the big difference. movies are ALWAYS liner so its a tough comparison. when i think of adventure games i think of going on an actual adventure, backtracking, exploring, clue finding, puzzle solving, etc. uncharted definitely encompasses some of those feature but is by no means setting any bar for any adventure game. if they are the standard to be reached be prepared to play more linear games with 1 path being called "grand adventures." thats something i hope to never see. multiple locations do no equal an adventure game. its an amazing action game/cinematic action experience. nothing more nothing less.

Am I the only guy that for some strange reason likes Uncharted: Drake's Fortune slightly more then Uncharted 2? Overall i think Uncharted 2 is better cause of the improvements to gameplay. But Uncharted 1 did have one of the greatest villians ever.

Got to agree he's the only villian in any story that I like and I kinda wish he continued to be in the Uncharted games.
@Ares90 I guess it's because it's the first PS3 game I played and I just like the characters better. Also I like the jungle environment a lot. That's pretty much it.

Also, differing opinions only counts when it comes to opinion. Unfortunately, it's all but an established fact that Uncharted 2 set the bar.

I disagreed because the only bar Uncharted 2 raised was console graphics IMO. If it had average graphics and a bit less polish I don't think it would have been anywhere near as praised.

I'm sick of Uncharted 2 fanboys, I thought U2 was good, but after months of hearing "It's the best game of the year, and if you disagree your'e an XBOX fanboy" I now think of it as an overrated POS.

And I know that's not true, but i'm just sick of the praise. It wasn't that good. And before you call me a fanboy, I mostly play games on my PS3.

but the game was praised for more than that.

- Animation system for Drake and enemies was awesome
- Voice acting was one of the best EVER
- Facial animation was spot on
- Story was good (not the best) but well designed and thought out
- First game I've played that lets you play through the cinematic moments, not watch them on a cutscene or a QTE
- Very likeable, humorous characters. (Their lifelike personalities was the first thing that caught my attention).

How can Uncharted 3 be setting the bar if you the game holds your hand the whole way?

Skyrim will have more choices on what you do and an OPEN world...something Uncharted 3 will never have and don't even mention the graphics...

you fail to understand game genres and gameplay elements which set the two games apart but happen to be in the same league when it comes to quality or setting the bar. starting with the fact Skyrim is at heart an rpg, the leveling, abilities, open world, choices where as Uncharted is an action adventure-linear, fast paced (alot more running, chase and buildings falling apart sequences), cover based, shooter and modern setting and story. Its like differentiating between Lord of the Rings and Inception both amazing but very different. Not to mention the fact its very difficult to judge two games that you haven't played.

Skyrim is a fantasy based role playing game.
Adventure is a different category.

I wouldn't consider Uncharted an adventure series. To me adventure games are the point and click exploration games, UC is more action than anything.
