Killzone 3: End of Open Beta - What will be fixed

Killzone Blog: We've already managed to address several key issues, such as server stability, network errors, and so on. What we'd like to do here is give you some idea of how your hard work has paid off on parts of the game you've commented on, but haven't seen a patch for in the open beta.

We've received a tremendous amount feedback from all of you, some of it obviously in favor of specific changes, while some other feedback was split down the middle. To compensate for the split feedback, we've looked at information and statistics we've been collecting while you've been playing on the server. Below you'll find a list of some of the most talked about points during beta, and what we plan to do to address these specific issues.

Wait a sec... Who the hell are you?

Nitrowolf25182d ago

he's pretty much just copying all the text from the article -_-

Taker_1295182d ago

@Kon, Your comment made me laugh out loud for real. Here have a bubble.

IPUMPMYGUN5182d ago

* A fix to the "Your Faction Has Won/Lost" issue, along with all oddities that resulted from this occurring
* An issue that allowed more than two clans to join a clan match will be fixed
* Increased Accuracy, Bullet Damage and Faster Reload Ribbons will update correctly on personal statistics screens
* We've simplified the process to invite players into your game (just one button press)
* The radius of the Marksman's Scramble++ has been lowered
* Medic's Revive distance increased and cooldown to re-use is decreased
* No collision on mortally wounded player bodies
* Increased player stamina
* An icon will be shown in the menu when you have a Killzone 3 message in your inbox

Shortly after the game's release, you'll also see these changes patched in:

* Support for color-blind players
* Implement unranked custom games for players to create private or clan matches
* Enhanced custom games functionality that will allow players to:
o Control over games modes and settings
o Secure games, allowing you to invite the players you want to play with
o The ability to prevent abilities and weapons from being used
o Toggling on and off functionality, such as ribbons, skills, explosives, etc.
o Selecting which careers you want available to players
o Allow friendly fire to be turned on or off
o Faction switching enabled or disabled
* The Clan Officer role will be added to clans
* Separate turn speeds for hip-fire and ADS
* Overly enthusiastic death screams will be toned down
* Increased the amount of kills required to win a Guerrilla Warfare match
* Increased Accuracy ribbon will have its effectiveness lowered
* Likewise, the Bullet Damage ribbon will have its effectiveness lowered as well
* Matches will end if the other team forfeits (i.e. too few, or no players on the enemy team)
* Matchmaking enhancements that will close and merge games based on player count, which will keep games more full
* Balance factions out by moving players to the other team at the end of the match if one team is lopsided
* The ability to turn off HUD markers for point pop-ups and objectives
* A menu option to allow squad-only chat
* The addition of a Mute All button
* Scoreboard flickering will be fixed
* Clans will no longer get matched against other clans that have many more players than they do (i.e. 4 vs. 7, 5 vs. 8)

And that list is just the beginning. As we release our patches you'll get a full list of everything we've updated in a patch list, which is much more than what we've listed above.

We'd like to thank all of you for taking such an active part in the Killzone community and we sincerely appreciate all of the time you've put into the open beta test. We simply can't thank you enough!

"Medic's Revive distance increased and cooldown to re-use is decreased" happy about that

"Overly enthusiastic death screams will be toned down" wish they'd leave that alone. i think it's hilarious lol

vickers5005182d ago

Nice, but I hope they fix the actual network side of things. Through the whole beta I was only able to play with BOTS and didn't get to play one single match with other people because of bs errors.

Hopefully they have that fixed by the time it's out.

brew5182d ago (Edited 5182d ago )

They should give you the ability to rotate the camera after you've been downed and to see if there are any medics in your area or on the way.

Pillage055182d ago

Meh, that's ok...I kind of like it the way it is..and you can't really pick the direction you're going to be looking at when you get picked up....you should be kind of disoriented and not really know where everyone is in my opinion. Probably not a big deal either way though really.

miyamoto5182d ago

yes this will be very helpful to prevent more camping too & adding a kill cam wont hurt either

Overly enthusiastic death screams will be toned down - it gets pretty annoying with all those uuummmmahhhhhh uuuumhhahhhhh over acting

overall all these tweaks & improvements are certainly very welcome to an already fun & exciting open beta

TheOneWhoPwnsYou5182d ago

That would be horrible... There is move for that kind of thing now. Not Sixaxis...

Arnagrim5182d ago

I think he means like in Killzone 2 where your scope would shake if you didn't keep your hands still because the SixAxis would pick up the movement.
I want it back as well.

-Alpha5182d ago (Edited 5182d ago )

But Move users don't experience that and it will make the DS3 users have a disadvantage.

I wouldn't mind it as an option but I can understand why it was removed. My request is to remove 1 hit kills to the body/limbs. Good players should be aiming for the head anyway

Rhythmattic5182d ago (Edited 5182d ago )

Agreed crazyturkey

It was really well implemented and not a gimmick.

vickers5005182d ago

No it wasn't, it was terrible. The fact that they forced you to use it was a load of crap. If you wanted to use a sniper rifle, you had to sit directly in front of your tv, you couldn't lean back in a chair because it would throw everything off.

Good riddance to that horrible mechanic.

Rhythmattic5182d ago (Edited 5182d ago )

I suppose the "hold your breath" mechanic in COD was also a bad idea which was forced upon you...

Personally I liked it.

As for a Auto aim mechanic .... Thats what sucks.

vickers5005181d ago

With the hold your breath mechanic in cod, at least you don't have to be sitting perfectly f'ng still and can at least lean back in your chair or make subtle movements and change sitting positions every once in a while.

And the click of a stick is responsive and precise and is done with actual buttons. That sixaxis crap should never be forced on anyone unless it only plays a very minor role in the gameplay like setting explosives in KZ2 SP or balancing your character in Uncharted1.

bunfighterii5182d ago

Yeah that was cool- great for making subtle aim adjustments to targets at long range.

There's too many games to choose from

No Metal geat solid 1,2,3,4?
No Resident evil?
No Silent hill?
No Midnight club 3?
No NfS Underground 2?
No Final Fantasy?
No Burnout 3?
No Dragon quest 8?
No Days gone?
No Ace combat?
No Tekken/Soul calibur?......
just from the top of my head

PS1 era was full of great RPGs, PS2 was racing generation i would pick top 200 and even that would be just a fraction.

FinalFantasyFanatic152d ago

30 is way too low over the entire history of Playstation, I just wouldn't be able to narrow it down that much, I would pick 100 at least.

Storm23152d ago

Yeah...really odd list. I get that it is personal preference and I love most of the games listed, but my list would definitely be different. I agree though, it would be incredibly difficult to come up with just 30.

lockedongamer1152d ago (Edited 152d ago )

I only picked first-party titles. Otherwise, I agree!

EDIT: Except for Days Gone, I don't get the love for it but you do you!

Chocoburger143d ago

I didn't like Days Gone either, it doesn't deserve to be on any best of list.

Up there with the top tier in the industry. Love Guerrilla Games - Horizon Burning Shores is simply STUNNING.

1Victor718d ago

Can’t wait for their next franchise

SullysCigar718d ago

Same. They nailed it with Horizon. The trouble is I also want a new Killzone! Can't I just have it all?!

jznrpg718d ago

I’m with you I want Horizon 3 , Killzone and new IPs

badz149718d ago

I have yet to play Burning Shores as I just started Forbidden West (bought at launch, just unwrapped last weekend LOL) and playing on PS5.

man...I still can't believe the graphics especially now I'm playing it on my LG OLED. that graphics and with stable performance backing it up, GG really is the master of their craft!

Vengeance1138718d ago

32.7M sales in the Horizon franchise! With 8.4M coming from Forbidden West alone! Truly a hugely successful game and franchise as a whole. Looking forward to Horizon III

Shane Kim718d ago

That's kind of a huge drop though. It's only been two games.

VersusDMC718d ago

One year after realease HZD sold 7.6 million.

https://www.noobfeed.com/ne...

So not a drop off.

Unless you're saying a HFW should have sold as much now as HZD sold in 5 years?

Vengeance1138718d ago

It's been 3 games, this includes Call of the Mountain. Also no, its a great improvement over HZD.

solideagle718d ago

lol you are comparing:

HZD: 28 February 2017 - May 2023 (6 years+)

HFW: 18 February 2022 - May 2023 (1 year+)

We will see if it surpass original number.

Phoenix76718d ago

@shane, 2 full main games, 2 DLC add ons, 1 VR spin off game, oh and a an official LEGO set.
Not too bad for an ip that's only been on market for 6 years

REDGUM718d ago

Wow, very impressive. I didn't know the numbers were so high for Forbidden West. Still playing through it myself

thesoftware730718d ago (Edited 718d ago )

Yooo, when I first saw that Killzone 1 footage at E3, my friends my brothers and I were like, Holy shit! When it came out, it didn't look exactly like it, but we sunk so many hours into 1 & 2.

I even liked Killzone: SF, it was a spectacle to look at, and even today it looks good. I hope they make a new one. Can you imagine how that will look, and they can get some modern FPS pointers from Bungie.

blacktiger718d ago

thank you fps lover, I'm with you

talocaca718d ago

Such a wonderful studio. They deserve all their success.

The Decima Engine is absolute 🔥 I'm just mad they have abandoned Killzone.

OzzY-waZZy718d ago (Edited 718d ago )

Kinda wish they move on from Horizon tbh.

lukasmain718d ago

They are probably working on mutiple projects. One of them is Horizon 3, but another is a multiplaer game and probably somehting else.

Imalwaysright718d ago

There were rumours that they were working on a Socom reboot.

Killzone 3 is playable with mouse & keyboard on PC via RPCS3 & KAMI

DSOGaming writes: "While Sony does not plan to release Killzone 3 on the PC, Yahfz shared a video that gives us a glimpse at what such a PC version could look like."

Still looks secure 2 gens later... one of my favorite ps3 moments. With 3D and move the game is on another level

MadLad1469d ago

PC almost always ends up the best place to play games, even if it takes a while.

What would you rather play decades down the line? A game at a fixed resolution and frame, considering you have a working disc, and the hardware?
Or run it on an emulator that can update the experience all around, and let you use whatever control input you prefer?

If you insist on the former, it's really only for the sake of nostalgia.

Applejack1469d ago

I disagree. The main draw for consoles has always be the simplicity of just putting the disc in / downloading it and playing without worrying about anything else. The average person just wouldn’t want to deal with emulation even though it’s very important for preservation.

Terry_B1469d ago

Even emulators are super simple to use.

jukins1469d ago

Youre getting flak because people on here thibk of themselves as pc wizards. But honestly most poeple try and go get emulators and romz they end up with malware.. yes theyre "easy" if you know the basics but alot of people dont. That said the fact that its taken nearly 20 years to get a sustantially better experience for ps3 games than on its native system shows the complexity of getting bc to work. Sony, if they have any intention, should just invest in a vastly better psnow experience.

1469d ago
Vegamyster1469d ago

jukins

Most people who emulate don't get malware, you'd have to be going to some weird sites for that to happen, heck years ago people were getting sketchier ad's resulting in malware warning on this site if you didn't have a ad-blocker lol.

SinkingSage1469d ago

Can't get malware if you legally dump your own games, which you should.

Rachel_Alucard1469d ago (Edited 1469d ago )

That's fine if that's the main draw, but it doesn't make it a better experience, just a preference. Having the freedom to do the things you can do on PC is what the appeal of PC is. Buying a game on PC means you never have to worry about the console makers just deciding the next hardware shouldn't support the generation anymore, which means everything you bought is stuck on that hardware instead of moving up with everything else. Nintendo uses this tactic to keep reselling the same games over and over at inflated prices. Sony cut all previous gens off the PS4 and sold it back to people in a poor attempt with PSnow. While the PS5 supports PS4 games, that may not be the case in the next gen after this. No to mention shutting off all the previous stores and updates completely. Even MS stopped making new BC titles at some point, so now there's a big list with 17 pages of titles that are not playable on Xbone and are just trapped on older gen. That's not a problem on PC, the reverse happens where you only have to worry if your hardware can play the newest releases at ultra with no issue.

AzubuFrost1469d ago

Shhh don't say that aloud! You're going to trigger a lot of console infidels here.

Shane Kim1469d ago

I rather play it when it's available then wait 10 years.

MadLad1468d ago

Did you purposely miss the entire point of my post?

Inverno1469d ago

Well that's the beauty of still owning a retro console tho. Those who usually complain about emulation are just being blindly loyal to a company. Emulation is great for many reason, but if I still owned the console then I disagree nothing beats plugging it back in and going down a nostalgia trip

The RPCS3 devs are doing great work. And Kami works nicely with it too it seems.
Very neat.

Magatsuhi1469d ago

Been playing mgo on pc with mouse. It's not perfect but I can make it work.

Binarycode1469d ago

2 is the better game.

A Remake would be good. 60fps 2-4k

Omar3li1469d ago

60fps is peasant for FPS games now
