Killzone 3 Demo Making The Latest Reviews Seem Unreliable

From complaints that the cut-scenes go black causing too much delay between the action, the dialogue being considered flat and boring with no real need to listen, to being called a ‘miserable experience’, and not offering anything new to the genre which I must add is a complete double-standard, this demo begs to differ in a big way.

I knew alot of reviews are unreliable waaaay before KZ3 came along. I stopped paying attention to reviews years ago.

Dante1124873d ago (Edited 4873d ago )

Same here. Reviews are not like they use to be two gens ago (the majority of reviews were serious, well written and reviewers actually completely FINISHED playing games before they review them in those time. Most honestly let you know if a game was good or back no matter what system it was on).

bluwulf4873d ago (Edited 4873d ago )

Gamers back in the day were all on the same page.

Generally speaking, a good game is a good game. SO even though you might not like an RPG, you could at least see that for people that like RPG's its a good game. Same for fighting/shooting etc.

Those were the guys that did reviews & had early access to the games, so you could at least read them and know what to expect. Most times, games only scored low for being buggy & bad gameplay.

Now reviewers are all children looking to make a point & gain hits to their site. They know reviewing against the grain is going to be more controversial, and drive more traffic. Comparing X game to Y game with a question mark at the end is about the depth of everything now at days. As if you don't need any game if one old game was good enough.

Very few whose actual opinions matter, as I think gamers now can tell which games are good & which are bad since we have so much coverage, more than we've ever had. Demos/Videos are more than still images in GamePro could ever do.

Theres no reason to think that anyone from anywhere knows more about the 'art' of reviewing a game when 1/2 the information is factually incorrect, and its filled with spelling errors. Than any of us.

BiggCMan4873d ago

I remember the last nail in the coffin for me taking IGN seriously was when they scored Kingdom Hearts 2 a 7 something. Bunch of idiots that don't know a good game when they see one. That was an amazing game.

CameronL994873d ago

The problem is these sites have found out that they can make way more money fishing for hits in advertising by being internet trolls who bash every game that they personally dislike, or just wasn't "for them" (if the game isn't for you you shouldn't be reviewing it as you aren't the target audience for the game and won't be able to give an opinion that is representative of the target audience, you shouldn't see FPS fans reviewing real time strategy games)

What you have to realize is that Money trumps everything when it comes to news. Every news organization on television has come to this realization, thus you have sensationalist infotainment dominating the airwaves rather than objective pieces. The internet is exactly the same, you can make more money fishing for hits than you can trying to be an objective and honest journalist. Don't forget, there is no journalistic credential necessary to write a videogame site, you just have to be someone who plays games with an opinion, there's no official credential necessary, so stop treating these gaming sites as if they were journalistic sites, because they are NOT journalists, they're glorified bloggers.

Army_of_Darkness4873d ago (Edited 4873d ago )

critics are judging this game way to harshly! It's Killzone 3 with improvements from the previous game! How can this be getting lower scores?! I don't get it?! improved control, move support, better weapons, gameplay and graphics!( judging from my beta experience)
Its like the media always criticizes ps3 exclusives on a completely different level its ridiculous! if KZ3 was multiplat and it plays and looks exactly how it does now, I'd bet it would be getting nothing but 9's & 10's...

pangitkqb4873d ago

I agree with this article. The demo was better than I anticipated...by far.

ChineseDemocracy4873d ago

I thought the demo was really entertaining, obviously it's not a full representation of the game, but if I had to give it a score just based on that I'd give it at LEAST a 9!

ending cutscene is sooo badass btw.

Boody-Bandit4873d ago

I gave up on reviews ages ago.
I always judge for myself.
Played the Killzone 3 demo today and it's incredible. I can't wait till 2/22.

bageara4873d ago

Some reviewers made it sound like KZ3 was another run of the mill shooter but going of the private beta, open beta and SP demo KZ3 is most definately NOT a run of the mill shooter...far from it! this game is Special!

disturbing_flame4873d ago (Edited 4873d ago )

When i see how much they raised the bar with this episode it's sad to see afterwards that the game have been sacked yes.

I thought with first reviews that the game could be less enjoyale than KZ2 ut in fact it is totally wrong.
Kz3 in just one demo is clearly above what i've seen before.

Man it was dynamic, so much packed with action, this game loves gamers.

Now that i know that finally the games coming this year on PS3 are better than their first episodes. I wonder what happened to professionalism of journalists...

Littlebigplanet 2 is a hundred percent better than the first episode = lower score on metacritics than the first episode

Kz3 is by far a huge kick in the face, the visuals of the solo demo are unparalleled on console for a FPS = lower score on metacritics than the first episode

If this story is repeated with Motorstorm, Infamous, Uncharted, SOCOM etc finally it would be clear that thos improvements frightened the reviewers.
Why ?

I don't know.
maybe these games are not on the right console for them.

Here's the asshole who labeled KZ3 a miserable experience. What a dick!

http://www.joystiq.com/2011...

"but no amount of 3D waggle can change the fact that the Killzone 3 campaign is a miserable experience.

Killzone 3 certainly offers more bells and whistles than its predecessor -- it's just a shame they've been affixed to an inferior game."

BattleAxe4873d ago

The one review that just came out which was a complete joke was the Game Pro review where they gave KZ3 a 7/10, and they guy states in the review that he didn't bother to play the multi-player. It just goes to show that complete idiots come out of the woodwork anytime a AAA PS3 exclusive gets released.

bluwulf4873d ago (Edited 4873d ago )

Battle Axe, so true.

They always give the Halo game to the halo fan of the crew who reviews it... Who goes ahead and glosses over problems because "Well if you're a fan of the first one, like me, YOU'LL LOVE THE NEW GAME!!! 10/10" Same with Call Of Duty "No Games perfect, and the story is a bit silly but you'll LOVE THE MULTIPLAYER!!!! 10/10" They even give forza to a guy that isn't a sim racer "Well I hated GT5, but I love Forza.. Painting is so much better than driving anyway 10/10!!!"

Then the PS3 game shows up, the microscopes come out, the film critics come down to comment on the drama & character development. John Williams flys out to discuss the sound quality, its ran through multiple gauntlets to see any Screentears/low resolution textures. The games launch history is then included in the review, as well as questions on whether or not you should buy a PS3 for this game.. Then its compared to games its clearly not trying to be. Then its innovation is questioned. Since all PS3 games have to innovate of course..

Its called amazing, and a great game though sometimes but, 7/10 because of that 4d comment ken made.

You hardly find reviewers excited over PS3 games. They just "meh" and get through them to flop them when they are done. If they give good scores, its generally because they would look almost TOO biased.

HolyOrangeCows4873d ago (Edited 4873d ago )

IGN complained unprecedentedly about the story (for an FPS).

Joystiq started with a bunch of fanboy rhetoric.

Edge: "but it all still depends heavily on the brutal impact of the shooting at its core"

Games: "it fundamentally plays more like a formulaic Call Of Duty clone"

BULLcrap reviews. This absolutely ridiculous display screams either politics (trying hard to make the systems seem even to continue receiving support from everybody....like politicians) or flamebait. Either way, that sound you hear is gaming media validity and integrity going down the crapper.

deafwing4873d ago

everyone, sadly, is entitled to their opinion on anything, at anytime

whether you choose to take heed from these people is up to you

the reviews have a place in gaming but it's not the only element that we should look to when putting our 60 beans towards a game

BABY-JEDI4873d ago

Too many sites, magazines having fan based & financial alliances with said Corp. All I want is simply an impartial review from some one who knows said gaming genre. That really isn't asking too much now is it. Going by KZ3 beta so far the game is worth more than a 7 in my view (especially in comparison to some higher rated games).

Jaces4872d ago

I usually reference reviews to give me a general idea of what the game has to offer but in the end they are never deciding factors to whether I buy the game or not.

Killzone3___4872d ago

@disturbing_flame
little big planet 2 didn't have wow factor , but halo did ... reviews and xbox360 fanboys always makes me lauph because of what they say XD ...

but sometimes they make me mad :
here is an example : ign saying gt5 is a simulater game but not racing game .... this is the most stupid thing i ever saw , they compared it to forza 3 and they even gave the Presentation 7/10 , they are saying '' it have A cumbersome front-end and minimal, overlong loading screens hinder it, as do a series of other strange design choices.''
what the hell they are talking about !!!!! and when you compare the loadings in forza and gt5 , gt5 is much faster !!!! the ai is alot better !!!! and a video proved that !! just check in youtube , the engine sound is much better.... i can continue but no need for that ... in the end they gave it the same rate of gt5 Prologue ( which is a demo ) ....

it just didn't have wow factor , that's what reviews and fanboys says for little big planet 2 - killzone 3 etc. and the same thing will happen with inFAMOUS 2 - Resistance 3 - Uncharted 3 etc.

SilverSlug4872d ago

Why is everyone acting like the game got bad scores? I saw 7's and 8's which are Good and Great.

I think what changed is idiotic gamers expecting everything to get 9's and 10's.

AAACE54872d ago

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing, but i'd like to point out that as gamers, we only play a certain few games that we like! As reviewers, they usually have to play tons of games, including the crappy ones. So it is understandable for them to be a bit jaded towards some games.

I only played the multiplayer demo of Killzone 3, and while they did boost the graphical abilities, the game is just still pretty boring to me! They didn't change the control setup either. Clicking the stick in to aim was popular for Rainbow Six and Halo, while pulling a trigger to aim has proved to be more effective in games nowadays.

Gears of War 1 and 2 had boring multiplayer levels, but what saved it was the gameplay. Killzone 2 and possibly 3 have boring levels but the gameplay isn't unique enough to save it! It's the same combat as in other games, except it just looks better.

But just like Killzone 2, most will love it! However, I have to wonder how many will pass on it.

I was actually considering picking up Killzone 3, but the demo did as much damage as the demo for Crysis 2 did, which put me off and marked the game as a $20 purchase!

Don't hate me, but that's just how I feel!

kharma454872d ago

troll reviewers ( aka ign) fishing for hits. Don't feed them...

miyamoto4872d ago

we are currently enjoying the MP Open Beta & the SP Demo from Hong Kong ^__^

UnwanteDreamz4873d ago

Yep, you really have to see them as personal opinions. I read alot of reviews and ask myself often what qualifies these people as reviewers? I seldom have an answer to that question. I hold more stock in word of mouth impressions that come from other gamers who share my tastes.

kneon4873d ago

In many cases their only qualification is an internet connection and grade school level writing abilities, often they aren't even that good.

DigitalRaptor4873d ago

I downloaded the Killzone 3 demo from the Hong Kong store and within the two minutes of gameplay, I was asking myself "Are these reviewers for real?"

The game is amazing. The brutal melee system adds so much to the gameplay. I could tell immediately the improvements such as graphics, animations, movement, weather effects, variety in gameplay, story. It's a wonderful experience - I didn't wanna stop playing at the end of the demo.

TheFreak4873d ago

Well spoken MariaHelFutura.

Forget about the reviews just play the demo and beta it's hardcore to the bone. The sound the visuals and the gameplay AMAZING!

mintaro4873d ago

So a review of the full game is now invalid because of a demo?

Hmmmmm

Lawliet4873d ago

A full review?

You mean like those that gave it 7/10? "I haven't play online and I just started playing the campaign, but I need hits cause my site is drought."

TheFreak4873d ago (Edited 4873d ago )

Your own experience with the game is always better than an review

jetlian4873d ago

seems that way. And yet they felt not fully playing GT5 to level 40 shouldn't be a review yet playing a short demo is more than enough for KZ3.

visualb4873d ago

no but a demo is about as reliable as one.

another persons opinion of a whole game

or

your own opinion of a small part of the game

both quite scant basis', but equal in reliability

Kleptic4873d ago

@thefreak...

Not always...GTAIV being the opposite extreme...

Wh15ky4873d ago

I would always trust my own opinion of a game based on playing its demo than a "professional" reviewers opinion of the full game, that's assuming they actually played the full game.

mintaro4873d ago

I think you guys are missing the point, you've only played a small part of the game.

Imagine if you only played the bank level from GTA 4, you would think that it's the best game ever no?

solsub4872d ago

^^

No, I'd still think GTA4 is utter shite -- bank scene or not.

All PS3 games are perfect if they score poorly it is because everybody is out to get the PS3 :p

Moebius694873d ago

Don't be silly no game is perfect however Killzone3 doesn't deserve the nitpicking it's getting

Thatguy-3104873d ago

"These reviews might be going beyond the point of an opinion. They can appear to become over-exaggerated banter with no respect for the herculean development efforts put forth by Guerrilla Games." that's what really pisses me off !! GG did a lot of improvements to appeal to new comers by making the controls more tighter, fluid movement etc. Just by playing the beta I can say KZ3 is a far better game than KZ2 so by no means should it be getting lower scores. The low scores is simply just a slap to the face to GG and is some what disrespectful. I'm just curious to see how reviewers will treat other upcoming ps3 exclusives. I mean LBP2 some was kinda suffering from the similar thing; recieving 8's for no good reason !!! Journalism is pathetic now and just play dirty for bigger hits or attention !!

smoothdude4872d ago

Please don't confuse blogging and journalism. About 98% of gaming sites are in reality just blogs.

KotC4873d ago (Edited 4873d ago )

The reviewers didn't play the demo or the beta, they played the "full game" so stop crying about the reviews. How long is this bitching going to continue?

IcarusOne4872d ago (Edited 4872d ago )

F O R E V E R

jessupj4872d ago (Edited 4872d ago )

For as long as the double standard against PS3 exclusives continue.

I've played more than 10 hours of the beta. It's just a single map but just from that it deserves at least a 9. The idiots issuing these 7's obviously don't like quality games... that or they don't have no idea what the f*ck they're talking about.

BARF4873d ago

so you are able to tell how the whole game is just by a 20 minute demo??? yet, reviewers that played the full game havent played enough???? which way do you want it?? hypocrites.

it funny that kz3 can get 8.5's (perfectly good score) and you kids whine about it and say the site is trolling for hits. you kids are pathetic. for a bunch of people that dont care about reviews, you sure do a lot of whining about reviews.

Thatguy-3104873d ago

8.5 is a good score your right but with all the improvements they did from the past installment there is no reasonable reason that it shouldn't match the scores from KZ2. And yea the review is just an opinion but most of the reviewers were to harsh on the game and like I said before it's just a slap to the face to GG and shows lack of respect since they don't seem to appreciate the changes they made for example some reviews just focused mainly on the CAMPAIGN !!!! And hardly gave credit to the improved multiplayer...

BobbyMcCOOL4872d ago

If you want the truth read destructioD's review if you want the truth.

http://www.destructoid.com/...

It's the only shooter that brings something new to the table. If you have a PS3 play the demo and you will see the difference.

If they repeated the demo for 8 straight hours it would still be better than any shooter out.

That's why everyone's up set it's. a truly good game and the industry tiring to prevent the masses from enjoying. unlike Halo Reach which gets a pass everytime it release, though its been the same game for the last 6 years. gamers are the ones who get hurt when these things happen, developers will just pay for good reviews instead of making good games.

it's really about Guerrilla's work, we should respect the time, effort, and quality they put into the game.
it.

Not the fact that they put a new name on an old game and spent 10 million to advertise it ."Bungie & Microsoft"

BARF4872d ago (Edited 4872d ago )

destructiod??? i though ps3 fans hated that site? oh yeah they gave an exclusive a perfect score, so now they are legit. nothing but hypocrisy. do you ps3 fanboys even know if your coming or going??? you guys are all over the place and its very laughable.

no reason to bring up reach. reach was a great game as well. it changed a lot from previous halos, but im sure you havent played halo reach.

"It's the only shooter that brings something new to the table. If you have a PS3 play the demo and you will see the difference. "

what does it do new??? other than the move, nothing new is done in kz3. i have played the demo and i do have a ps3 with move (check my profile). i am a kz fan, but i see nothing wrong with an 8.5 review. i guess thats cause im not a rabid fanboy blinded by outrageous sony bias.

tacosRcool4872d ago

A double standard is right. Everybody should definitely know after such nitpicking about GT5. Review games on what they have and not on what they don't have

ULTIMATE_REVENGE4872d ago

GT5 was a disappointment, I visit the forums on GTplanet nearly every day, they even have an entire thread dedicated to people who didn't like the game.

Stop being bias and open your eyes. KZ3 is more of the same with slightly better graphics (it looked better on YT than it did on my HDTV)

RBLAZE19884872d ago (Edited 4872d ago )

The killzone 3 single player demo was better than mw2's or black ops entire campaign, so SUCK IT gaming media!!!! Can't wait. The acting and directing is really awesome!

I still think that killzone 3 should only get like an 8.5-9 cause they added coop campaign but didn't do online campaign coop which just hurts my brain to think why they didn't add online coop...:/

Apone4872d ago

Where's the reset button?

baodeus4872d ago

so a demo give more accurate review of the game then playing the full game?

MNicholas4872d ago

Seriously, folks, we know that all the COD, Halo, and Gears sequels received 10s because they were mind-blowingly innovative, had unbelievably compelling and non-derivative storylines, provided unmatched voice acting, unbelievable real-time effects (nothing baked or scripted whatsoever), and gameplay that never ever repeated itself.

DigitalAnalog4872d ago (Edited 4872d ago )

But here's an explanation for you. Sure 30 minutes of demo may not be the full representative of the full game.

BUT, what you fail to realize, is that the reviewers complaints don't add up to what the demo is portraying.

Let's say for example reviewers complaining that Halo has poor animations, the demo is then released to the public where reactions are met with opposition. Does it mean that the animations would suck in the full version, NO!! That's not what this excerpt is about, point is, reviewers are complaining about things in the review that contradicts what the demo is revealing.

Not to make a generalization but from what I've seen, it seems the XDF have the following symptoms:

- Stating XX is a great score.
- Stating that reviews MUST GIVE their own "opinion".
- Being selective when pulling out excerpts.
- Baseless assumptions.

So tell me, why should the opinion AFFECT the score? The reviewer is entitled to his own opinion that's true, but it should be an illustrative point of view that must be taken "tongue-in-cheek". If a reviewer hates the RPG genre then the entire RPG games that meets his/her doorstep is f*cked even before the review starts. Is that the kind of reviewer (s) you want in this industry, just so that you can troll your eternal hatred for the PS3?

-End of Line

baodeus4871d ago (Edited 4871d ago )

so what do they complain mostly about, the story (that actually seem to interfere w/ the momentum of the game....well that seems to be the general common complaint so far from reviewers) right?,

So how does a demo to tell u anything about the story and how it doesn't interfere w/ gameplay as a whole (which was mentioned in the article and nothing about reviewer being biased against gamplay)? Doesn't all demo also say, this is not a true presentation of the final product right?

If you read reviews, they didn't say anything bad about the gameplay (most say that it is great, or i haven't heard complaint about the gameplay. They actually like it)

2nd, KZ2 did receive good score all around and so it was pretty high up in metacritic so far. So why it is ok w/ the game get high score, but it is bias when it got lower score? You guys complain about bias review, but you guys also suffer from the same problem, see?

The article is well, retarded because he didn't give any support, or evidences to back up his claim. It is like an opinionated complaint of bias review toward KZ2 based on his play through of the demo vs. people that played the full game? WTF? Really?

DigitalAnalog4871d ago (Edited 4871d ago )

I haven't read all the KZ3 reviews, but if I were to go to the amount of complains in this comment thread, I would have to assume some of the reviews have asinine complaints aside from the story.

"2nd, KZ2 did receive good score all around and so it was pretty high up in metacritic so far. So why it is ok w/ the game get high score, but it is bias when it got lower score? You guys complain about bias review, but you guys also suffer from the same problem, see?"

The reverse is also opposite is it not? When a PS3 exclusive gets a high score, you guys complain that there is bias. If the review gets a lower score, you guys throw in the "conpiracy theory" card. Where exactly is the middle ground here? It's just a never-ending fisticuffs who gets hurt more.

"The article is well, retarded because he didn't give any support, or evidences to back up his claim."

Like I said, I haven't read all of the reviews nor the demo to make a comparison. I'll have to play for the demo myself. Let's take Vanquish for instance, almost every review claims that the game is 4 - 6 hours, however, when I played the game, it was nearly TWICE as long. So, can you really justify the reviews if they were called out of their bullsh*t?

-End of Line

baodeus4871d ago (Edited 4871d ago )

@digital analog

1. Who are u guys? Be specific.

2. I do agree that the reverse is true, and well that what a fanboy is all about. But for the record though, I seriously haven't seen a person say something about the reviewers being bias against x360 or wii, like on N4G Really?

3. Sony camp are where i have heard over and over about reviewers are bias and grading ps3 on a different ground no?

4. Didn't many pro Sony on n4g also used metacritic to support the fact that ps3 has the most AAA games on metacritic (which is true and i totally agree because it actually has data to back it up), but turn around and say reviewer are bias when some games do get lower score?

Is looks like hypocrisy to me.

Where are the standard and sticking to the principle ideal?

If you want to argue and have some sort of credibility, then you have to stick to your principle. If you are wrong then admit it. Simple right?

DigitalAnalog4871d ago (Edited 4871d ago )

1. It's a general statement, since we're at a forum with possibilities of dual-fanboyism behind their user-names, I meant everyone related to said subject.

2. I won't go and look for archives of N4G regarding 360 comments. But to say as such is just plain ignorant. Let's face it, in N4G you can guarantee that there is going to be more reviews in PS3 exclusives then there would be for 360 ones. Therefore it is easy to pull off score-bitching from that section a lot easier.

3. And 360 keep constantly spewing "7.5 is a gooddddd score, 8.0 is a greatthhh score", then all of a sudden when the scores goes over 9, the response with be "duh, it's teh bias, teh biass, high score from a PSSSS MAGZZ, high score from a PS webzzzz". See, how this works? And you want to justify these actions?

4. First off, AAA can only be applied to the BUDGET of game and not the scores. Only G-MLD made up such a ridiculous rule. But facts are facts, there are more HIGH scoring 360 games than PS3 ones (according to MC), anyone who says otherwise are just spewing garbage and is no way needed to be taken seriously.

-End of Line

baodeus4870d ago (Edited 4870d ago )

@digital analog

I misinterpret what u said earlier about the reverse is true. I do agree that on n4g, Ps3 game is the most talk about either good or bad, w/ constant bickering back and forth between the fanboys. I don't justify bashing ps3 games when it get good score from like PS magazine or such either. If you do look up on some of my previous posts, i did say that the reviewers probably like the game and gave it good score, not because it is affiliated w/ Sony.

For opinion shouldn't be included in reviews, i find it hard not to, because the entire idea is to give your input on what you like and what you don't like about the game. Like/interest/intake = opinion, therefore, it is practically impossible to remove it from review). The only way to not get these stupid complaints is by not giving a score to the game. It seems like many just focus on the score w/out ever reading the reviews, which defeat the purpose of it. Given, quality may vary :).

Review only serve as a guide for purchase. However, it doesn't mean every dam reviews should cater to ones' taste (it is impossible because people are different). Therefore, it is important that each reader find something that would align w/ his/her interests from these reviews to help him/her decide w/ the purchase. Review only presenting different intake/opinions on the games and thats all to it.

Although i still believe this TPC doesn't think thing through before he wrote it. I would think he is bias instead of the reviewers (argue against experienced peep using minimal experiences of a demo is just well retarded).

Good discussion man and take care.

when they gave LBP2 9s and 10s were reliable, what happened now????

AnonUser55554873d ago

That's a point I try to make all the time. It's so damn annoying dealing with the people here sometimes, as evidenced by the 10 "Disagrees" you received for a perfectly valid point.

Websites are all biased...until they give your favorite game a good score. Then everyone loves them again and says they deserve to be trusted. It's horseshit.

SnakeMustDie4873d ago (Edited 4873d ago )

I never saw them as reliable even when they give those 9-10 scores. I only wanted to see great games got the recognition they deserve.

How would it feel if they gave the next Halo game with new innovative mechanics a 7 and the next rehashed CoD game with the same f*king gameplay a 10. How about if it got nitpicked because it has too much variety.

I read reviews by the pros and cons that are present in the game. The reason why many people complain because such minor flaws can take out points a lot yet rehashed games having the same flaws gets a free pass.

Reviewers should just get rid of the score based review system altogether because it does nothing but fuels the damn fanboy wars.

IcarusOne4872d ago

The only things that matter are your opinion, the awards, and sales. In that order. Those are what dictate how a game goes down in history. Does anyone really give a shit nowadays about what the critics thought of Citizen Kane?

(hint: they hated it.)

Biggest4872d ago

Here is that stupid Pachter defense again. Just because they got one right doesn't mean you disagree because they are who they are. They also don't get a pat on the back when they're wrong because they were right before. Some people scored LBP2 properly while others opted for the "CLICK ON ME!!!" approach. The same thing happened with GT5 and it seems as if the same thing is happening here. Some of the cons don't match the previous norms. I didn't see any lowered scores for the story in MW2 or Halo or Gears of War. I have NEVER seen lowered scores for a FPS because it relies on shooting too much (I'm still trying to wrap my brain around that one). I've seen games that were almost unplayable (Fallout 3/NV) get extremely high scores as if the ability to play the game sometimes is gift in itself. I've seen games like Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops receive higher scores based on their multiplayer alone, even though it didn't work most of the time. Here we have a game with superior stability, superior online connectivity, and the best graphics, sound, 3D, motion control, and some of the best gameplay around. . . Yet the story is soooooo bad that it's worse than the games that have none of that? That only makes sense in Opposite World.

Kon4873d ago

You hit the nail on the head.

remanutd554873d ago

nop i dont, i keep my word with a good review/ bad review , press has been very but i mean very harsh on sony exclusives this generation , LBP is one of the exceptions because is unique, no other game can match LBP but shooters , racers and others have been nitpick for some very incoherent reasons , i remember a review about Ratchet and Clank saying that they deducted points because the game has too much happening , too much variety , with that said i think i could do a better job reviewing a game , anyways this generation is more about hits / convenience than the actual games , sadly the gaming media is really holding the industry imo but i dont listen to them anymore , heck 1 of them had the nerves to say that Warhawk was a 5 point game , my god , things people do when they get offered some greens , i dont care about reviews , as a matter of fact i think i care more about my psn friends suggestions than those incompetents.

KotC4873d ago

"press has been very but i mean very harsh on sony exclusives this generation"

Like they were with UC2 (GOTY) LBP (9's and 10s) GOW3 (9's and 10s) Killzone 2 (9's and 10s)???

What a bunch of babies. Why is it Nintendo fanboys and Xbox fanboys never whine about reviews but PS3 fanboys do? Xbox fanboys are "supposed" to be the youngest yet it's the PS3 fanbase that acts like children.

thief4873d ago

Thats because LBP is off the scale. Its an 11. Its
Not kidding and no hyperbole, LBP really is that good in so many ways, there is nothing else even close in imagination and quality.

IcarusOne4872d ago

"It's an 11 out of 10! No hyperbole!" <-- thanks for the greatest lol moment of my day

Up there with the top tier in the industry. Love Guerrilla Games - Horizon Burning Shores is simply STUNNING.

1Victor401d ago

Can’t wait for their next franchise

SullysCigar401d ago

Same. They nailed it with Horizon. The trouble is I also want a new Killzone! Can't I just have it all?!

jznrpg400d ago

I’m with you I want Horizon 3 , Killzone and new IPs

badz149400d ago

I have yet to play Burning Shores as I just started Forbidden West (bought at launch, just unwrapped last weekend LOL) and playing on PS5.

man...I still can't believe the graphics especially now I'm playing it on my LG OLED. that graphics and with stable performance backing it up, GG really is the master of their craft!

Vengeance1138401d ago

32.7M sales in the Horizon franchise! With 8.4M coming from Forbidden West alone! Truly a hugely successful game and franchise as a whole. Looking forward to Horizon III

Shane Kim401d ago

That's kind of a huge drop though. It's only been two games.

VersusDMC401d ago

One year after realease HZD sold 7.6 million.

https://www.noobfeed.com/ne...

So not a drop off.

Unless you're saying a HFW should have sold as much now as HZD sold in 5 years?

Vengeance1138401d ago

It's been 3 games, this includes Call of the Mountain. Also no, its a great improvement over HZD.

solideagle401d ago

lol you are comparing:

HZD: 28 February 2017 - May 2023 (6 years+)

HFW: 18 February 2022 - May 2023 (1 year+)

We will see if it surpass original number.

Phoenix76401d ago

@shane, 2 full main games, 2 DLC add ons, 1 VR spin off game, oh and a an official LEGO set.
Not too bad for an ip that's only been on market for 6 years

REDGUM400d ago

Wow, very impressive. I didn't know the numbers were so high for Forbidden West. Still playing through it myself

thesoftware730401d ago (Edited 401d ago )

Yooo, when I first saw that Killzone 1 footage at E3, my friends my brothers and I were like, Holy shit! When it came out, it didn't look exactly like it, but we sunk so many hours into 1 & 2.

I even liked Killzone: SF, it was a spectacle to look at, and even today it looks good. I hope they make a new one. Can you imagine how that will look, and they can get some modern FPS pointers from Bungie.

blacktiger400d ago

thank you fps lover, I'm with you

talocaca401d ago

Such a wonderful studio. They deserve all their success.

The Decima Engine is absolute 🔥 I'm just mad they have abandoned Killzone.

OzzY-waZZy401d ago (Edited 401d ago )

Kinda wish they move on from Horizon tbh.

potatoseal400d ago

They are probably working on mutiple projects. One of them is Horizon 3, but another is a multiplaer game and probably somehting else.

Imalwaysright400d ago

There were rumours that they were working on a Socom reboot.

Killzone 3 is playable with mouse & keyboard on PC via RPCS3 & KAMI

Still looks secure 2 gens later... one of my favorite ps3 moments. With 3D and move the game is on another level

MadLad1152d ago

PC almost always ends up the best place to play games, even if it takes a while.

What would you rather play decades down the line? A game at a fixed resolution and frame, considering you have a working disc, and the hardware?
Or run it on an emulator that can update the experience all around, and let you use whatever control input you prefer?

If you insist on the former, it's really only for the sake of nostalgia.

Applejack1152d ago

I disagree. The main draw for consoles has always be the simplicity of just putting the disc in / downloading it and playing without worrying about anything else. The average person just wouldn’t want to deal with emulation even though it’s very important for preservation.

Terry_B1152d ago

Even emulators are super simple to use.

jukins1152d ago

Youre getting flak because people on here thibk of themselves as pc wizards. But honestly most poeple try and go get emulators and romz they end up with malware.. yes theyre "easy" if you know the basics but alot of people dont. That said the fact that its taken nearly 20 years to get a sustantially better experience for ps3 games than on its native system shows the complexity of getting bc to work. Sony, if they have any intention, should just invest in a vastly better psnow experience.

1152d ago
Vegamyster1151d ago

jukins

Most people who emulate don't get malware, you'd have to be going to some weird sites for that to happen, heck years ago people were getting sketchier ad's resulting in malware warning on this site if you didn't have a ad-blocker lol.

SinkingSage1151d ago

Can't get malware if you legally dump your own games, which you should.

Rachel_Alucard1151d ago (Edited 1151d ago )

That's fine if that's the main draw, but it doesn't make it a better experience, just a preference. Having the freedom to do the things you can do on PC is what the appeal of PC is. Buying a game on PC means you never have to worry about the console makers just deciding the next hardware shouldn't support the generation anymore, which means everything you bought is stuck on that hardware instead of moving up with everything else. Nintendo uses this tactic to keep reselling the same games over and over at inflated prices. Sony cut all previous gens off the PS4 and sold it back to people in a poor attempt with PSnow. While the PS5 supports PS4 games, that may not be the case in the next gen after this. No to mention shutting off all the previous stores and updates completely. Even MS stopped making new BC titles at some point, so now there's a big list with 17 pages of titles that are not playable on Xbone and are just trapped on older gen. That's not a problem on PC, the reverse happens where you only have to worry if your hardware can play the newest releases at ultra with no issue.

AzubuFrost1152d ago

Shhh don't say that aloud! You're going to trigger a lot of console infidels here.

Shane Kim1151d ago

I rather play it when it's available then wait 10 years.

MadLad1151d ago

Did you purposely miss the entire point of my post?

Inverno1151d ago

Well that's the beauty of still owning a retro console tho. Those who usually complain about emulation are just being blindly loyal to a company. Emulation is great for many reason, but if I still owned the console then I disagree nothing beats plugging it back in and going down a nostalgia trip

The RPCS3 devs are doing great work. And Kami works nicely with it too it seems.
Very neat.

Magatsuhi1151d ago

Been playing mgo on pc with mouse. It's not perfect but I can make it work.

Binarycode1151d ago

2 is the better game.

A Remake would be good. 60fps 2-4k

Omar3li1151d ago

60fps is peasant for FPS games now

Top 10 PS3 Games We Hope Come Back On PS5

While Xbox has committed to backwards compatibility spanning four generations, PlayStation has continued their stance that the feature isn't important. Well, it is! I'm hoping these PlayStation 3 classics that skipped the PS4 entirely show up again on the PS5 for everyone to enjoy.

Resistance, Dead Space franchise, Splatterhouse, Lollipop Chainsaw, Brutal Legends, Alice Madness Returns, Enslaved Journey to the West, Mass Effect franchise. Also wouldn't mind seeing a new Wild Arms game remake or HD remaster, the Xenosaga trilogy, a new Parasite Eve, a new Dino Crisis just too many games to list that are forgotten and left in the dark now adays.

Sciurus_vulgaris1329d ago

The PS3 is difficult to emulate. PS3 backwards compatibility on PS5 would require translation from PowerPC to x86. Additionally the PS5 likely would have to mimic the PS3’s GPU and CPU.

This is what pops up on my web browser. So I can't even read the site. So, forget that. They don't need my data.

But let's get something straight. OG Xbox had around 1,001 games. How many are BC on Series X? **39** THIRTY NINE. Come on! That's wack BC. You can't tell me that's a complete list. Talking about commitment. Game preservation. Ridiculous. Covers nothing.

How many games released on Xbox 360? Around 2085. How many are BC?
568. That's it. Around 1,517 are **MISSING** Stop playing. Tired of that nonsense.

Anyway, the only games I really want from PS3 that would be awesome are Motorstorm and MGS4. I'll take BC. I'll take a remaster. I'll take a remake. If not those, then Killzone 2. And in VR, maybe Sports Champions, House of the Dead Overkill and the Time Crisis games.

That's all I need. But we've gone over BC again and again in every possible way. It wasn't that important because Sony sold 115 million consoles without it. That's proof enough with no outcry. And PS5 has damn near all 4,000+ PS4 games BC. It's not PS1,PS2 and PS3. But that's plenty. I'll take more but you get what you get.
