Killzone 3 versus Killzone PSP2: Screenshot Comparison

GB: "Its not been too long since the PSP2/NGP was announced and it’s graphics are already rivaling the likes of flag ship PS3 games like Uncharted. Among the plethora of games announced, Killzone will also be launching on Sony’s latest handheld hardware.
So how does this latest installment compare with the upcoming Killzone 3 for the PlayStation 3. For this purpose we have compared the screens from both the games.
Obviously the Killzone PSP2/NGP image we have might not be representation of the final product, but it’s already looking pretty close to it’s console counterpart."

This seems more like a spot the difference than a screenshot comparison :p

Can't believe how good the graphics are on the NGP

Bits-N-Kibbles4852d ago

not too good of a comparison, but the graphics are stunning for portable game.

PLASTICA-MAN4852d ago (Edited 4852d ago )

Killzone NGP is not even in "pre-pre-pre-alpha stage", it is still in "test stage" on a still unfinished console.
Comparing a fully optimized PS3 game with a game still in concept stage is just unfair and despite that the 2 games are comparable. Prepare yourself to see more detailed and filled environments and PS3 level NGP Killzone in E3.

DoomeDx4852d ago

^ Its for fun, there is not supposed to be a winner genius.

hiredhelp4852d ago

graphicly massive leap from psp. great but dont expect a handheld ps3 chaps. but do expect somert nearly as close.

BattleAxe4852d ago

Don't give these idiots any hits. their articles are low quality. They just look for cheap hits.

TheLastGuardian4852d ago (Edited 4852d ago )

Killzone on NGP looks great for a handheld game but it has the same grey color pallete that I disliked in KZ2. Hopefully they'll add more color. Is GG developing this?

the_best_player4851d ago

@TheLastGuardian
grey color was only in 2007 version not 2009 final version

BISHOP-BRASIL4852d ago

Nah, I can easily spot differeces like poly count (look at those odd feeted helghast on NGP version LOL) but that's not to say it's really impressive for a handheld.

I hardly believe NGP will have PS3 graphics (it would cost a lot and need to much energy to pull off) but I believe they will perform just as great considering the size of the screen.

Anyway, still waiting on some final word on phone call capabilities for this thing.

Hanif-8764852d ago (Edited 4852d ago )

The NGP doesn't need to render stuff at HD resolutions. Therefore, it doesn't need to be as powerful as the PS3 to look the same. Also its a truly powerful handheld but i don't need to list specs for you, just know that it might even ship with 1 GB ram comparable to the PS3 and XBox360 512mb and it has a 2ghz quad core CPU and also quad core GPU this thing is a beast dude :-)

ABizzel14852d ago

It supposedly has 1GB of RAM in the dev kits, and Sony's trying to decide on 1GB or 512MB.

BISHOP-BRASIL4852d ago

Yeah, my bad. Type probably make most of you guys confused. It was supposed to be "not to say it ISN'T impressive for a handheld".

I'm hyped for this too, I just want to know about phone call capabilities to close the deal and pre order it now (if it lacks this capabilities I'll wait for the final specs and price before deciding).

And yes, I'm aware of the 1GB RAM matter, but I was talking about poly count, not resolution. For that little screen, 960x544 is way more than enough rez, plus it's OLED and should not suffer the original PSP (1000) screen problems with ambient lighting.

But even with such RAM and resolution maybe enough to beat PS3, I still don't think they'll pull off PS3 level of graphical quality just yet, it may come close later on it's life, but something to put out Uncharted or Killzone actual graphic level would cost us an arm and probably wouldn't be portable friendly, needing too much energy.

superadvanced4852d ago

it looks like they still need to add the surface shaders in the ngp version. thats the main difference imo.

pain777pas4852d ago

If the graphics are close can we say WTF though? The handheld has some serious power never seen before on a handheld might I add. Wow!

gamer20104852d ago

NGP is going to be such an amazing little device.

DigitalAnalog4852d ago

The NGP can rival PS3's graphical capabilities.. only in a smaller resolution. With that being said, I think it's only fair the author should lower the res on the PS3 version to 480P to "even" out the odds.

-End of Line

Thank you Captain Obvious....

awiseman4852d ago

that term "stunning" is becoming seriousely overused.

And of course the ps3 version looks better dont make me lol.

DoomeDx4852d ago

Its not supposed to be a competition idiot.
its made for FUN! just to see how big of a diffrence there is.

Darkfiber4852d ago

Graphics don't really mean anything in the handheld market. Sure, they help with hype, but PSP games have traditionally been lackluster as compared to their console counterparts. Graphics don't make a good game. They will need to deliver in terms of gameplay, depth, level design and story if they want to actually make a good game, something that most console series spinoffs have yet to accomplish.

remanutd554852d ago (Edited 4852d ago )

very true but you forgot a big detail about your comment and why they havent really deliver in terms of all that SPECIALLY in the FPS genre ( GAMEPLAY MECHANICS ) , thats about to change with NGP , games like Metal Gear and God of War have been superb on the little system now its time to take it to the next level , NGP can do it if sony does it right , it has all the tools we wanted on a handheld console now its time for sony and third party to deliver , i really loved all three live stage demos and the different ways you can play those games , havent seen a FPS game yet but if they had activison talking about Call of Duty on stage its because a proper Call of Duty game is coming to NGP , i dont see otherwise

Ju4852d ago

Well, CoD. LOL. Should be easy for Activision. Won't degrade any quality at all, me thinks.

LarVanian4852d ago (Edited 4852d ago )

Killzone: Liberation, Resistance: Retribution, Crisis Core, Kingdom Hearts: BBS and both the Syphon Filter games on PSP had great stories as well as graphics. R & C: Size Matters and Daxter also had good stories and were terrific looking games. MGS: Portable Ops and Peace Walker were also great in the story department.
And lets not forget about God Of War: Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta which are in my opinion the two most technically impressive and best looking PSP titles, they both had great stories.
Darkfiber I have a strong feeling that you missed out on lots of great PSP titles.....or that your standards are way too high.

Ju4852d ago

Some of those games would really shine on the NGP. Syphon Filter, whoa. Or Liberation, Retribution. All of them just pushed the visuals as far as they could. Yet they would be so much better on a high def device. And they were (are) all great games.

Dr-Zoidberg4852d ago

Going to need more original franchises this time, got fed up of the lack of new franchises with PSP.

Darkfiber4852d ago

All of those games you listed, unfortunately, did not hold a candle to their console counterparts. They were good for handheld games, sure, but my point is that they would never REPLACE console games, which is what this article is insinuating.

Pedantic914852d ago (Edited 4852d ago )

Is a lot more interesting than the actual graphics of it.

trancefreak4852d ago

very true I don't think anyone expects full fledged ps3 in a hand held but this looks pretty dam good and we will have to wait until we see the final results.

I'm sure most that was seen was rushed to show the ngp capabilities for its demonstration.

Up there with the top tier in the industry. Love Guerrilla Games - Horizon Burning Shores is simply STUNNING.

1Victor377d ago

Can’t wait for their next franchise

SullysCigar377d ago

Same. They nailed it with Horizon. The trouble is I also want a new Killzone! Can't I just have it all?!

jznrpg377d ago

I’m with you I want Horizon 3 , Killzone and new IPs

badz149377d ago

I have yet to play Burning Shores as I just started Forbidden West (bought at launch, just unwrapped last weekend LOL) and playing on PS5.

man...I still can't believe the graphics especially now I'm playing it on my LG OLED. that graphics and with stable performance backing it up, GG really is the master of their craft!

Vengeance1138377d ago

32.7M sales in the Horizon franchise! With 8.4M coming from Forbidden West alone! Truly a hugely successful game and franchise as a whole. Looking forward to Horizon III

Shane Kim377d ago

That's kind of a huge drop though. It's only been two games.

VersusDMC377d ago

One year after realease HZD sold 7.6 million.

https://www.noobfeed.com/ne...

So not a drop off.

Unless you're saying a HFW should have sold as much now as HZD sold in 5 years?

Vengeance1138377d ago

It's been 3 games, this includes Call of the Mountain. Also no, its a great improvement over HZD.

solideagle377d ago

lol you are comparing:

HZD: 28 February 2017 - May 2023 (6 years+)

HFW: 18 February 2022 - May 2023 (1 year+)

We will see if it surpass original number.

Phoenix76377d ago

@shane, 2 full main games, 2 DLC add ons, 1 VR spin off game, oh and a an official LEGO set.
Not too bad for an ip that's only been on market for 6 years

Wow, very impressive. I didn't know the numbers were so high for Forbidden West. Still playing through it myself

thesoftware730377d ago (Edited 377d ago )

Yooo, when I first saw that Killzone 1 footage at E3, my friends my brothers and I were like, Holy shit! When it came out, it didn't look exactly like it, but we sunk so many hours into 1 & 2.

I even liked Killzone: SF, it was a spectacle to look at, and even today it looks good. I hope they make a new one. Can you imagine how that will look, and they can get some modern FPS pointers from Bungie.

blacktiger377d ago

thank you fps lover, I'm with you

talocaca377d ago

Such a wonderful studio. They deserve all their success.

The Decima Engine is absolute 🔥 I'm just mad they have abandoned Killzone.

OzzY-waZZy377d ago (Edited 377d ago )

Kinda wish they move on from Horizon tbh.

potatoseal377d ago

They are probably working on mutiple projects. One of them is Horizon 3, but another is a multiplaer game and probably somehting else.

Imalwaysright377d ago

There were rumours that they were working on a Socom reboot.

Killzone 3 is playable with mouse & keyboard on PC via RPCS3 & KAMI

Still looks secure 2 gens later... one of my favorite ps3 moments. With 3D and move the game is on another level

MadLad1128d ago

PC almost always ends up the best place to play games, even if it takes a while.

What would you rather play decades down the line? A game at a fixed resolution and frame, considering you have a working disc, and the hardware?
Or run it on an emulator that can update the experience all around, and let you use whatever control input you prefer?

If you insist on the former, it's really only for the sake of nostalgia.

Applejack1128d ago

I disagree. The main draw for consoles has always be the simplicity of just putting the disc in / downloading it and playing without worrying about anything else. The average person just wouldn’t want to deal with emulation even though it’s very important for preservation.

Terry_B1128d ago

Even emulators are super simple to use.

jukins1128d ago

Youre getting flak because people on here thibk of themselves as pc wizards. But honestly most poeple try and go get emulators and romz they end up with malware.. yes theyre "easy" if you know the basics but alot of people dont. That said the fact that its taken nearly 20 years to get a sustantially better experience for ps3 games than on its native system shows the complexity of getting bc to work. Sony, if they have any intention, should just invest in a vastly better psnow experience.

1128d ago
Vegamyster1128d ago

jukins

Most people who emulate don't get malware, you'd have to be going to some weird sites for that to happen, heck years ago people were getting sketchier ad's resulting in malware warning on this site if you didn't have a ad-blocker lol.

SinkingSage1128d ago

Can't get malware if you legally dump your own games, which you should.

Rachel_Alucard1128d ago (Edited 1128d ago )

That's fine if that's the main draw, but it doesn't make it a better experience, just a preference. Having the freedom to do the things you can do on PC is what the appeal of PC is. Buying a game on PC means you never have to worry about the console makers just deciding the next hardware shouldn't support the generation anymore, which means everything you bought is stuck on that hardware instead of moving up with everything else. Nintendo uses this tactic to keep reselling the same games over and over at inflated prices. Sony cut all previous gens off the PS4 and sold it back to people in a poor attempt with PSnow. While the PS5 supports PS4 games, that may not be the case in the next gen after this. No to mention shutting off all the previous stores and updates completely. Even MS stopped making new BC titles at some point, so now there's a big list with 17 pages of titles that are not playable on Xbone and are just trapped on older gen. That's not a problem on PC, the reverse happens where you only have to worry if your hardware can play the newest releases at ultra with no issue.

Shhh don't say that aloud! You're going to trigger a lot of console infidels here.

Shane Kim1128d ago

I rather play it when it's available then wait 10 years.

MadLad1127d ago

Did you purposely miss the entire point of my post?

Inverno1128d ago

Well that's the beauty of still owning a retro console tho. Those who usually complain about emulation are just being blindly loyal to a company. Emulation is great for many reason, but if I still owned the console then I disagree nothing beats plugging it back in and going down a nostalgia trip

Top 10 PS3 Games We Hope Come Back On PS5

While Xbox has committed to backwards compatibility spanning four generations, PlayStation has continued their stance that the feature isn't important. Well, it is! I'm hoping these PlayStation 3 classics that skipped the PS4 entirely show up again on the PS5 for everyone to enjoy.

Resistance, Dead Space franchise, Splatterhouse, Lollipop Chainsaw, Brutal Legends, Alice Madness Returns, Enslaved Journey to the West, Mass Effect franchise. Also wouldn't mind seeing a new Wild Arms game remake or HD remaster, the Xenosaga trilogy, a new Parasite Eve, a new Dino Crisis just too many games to list that are forgotten and left in the dark now adays.

Sciurus_vulgaris1306d ago

The PS3 is difficult to emulate. PS3 backwards compatibility on PS5 would require translation from PowerPC to x86. Additionally the PS5 likely would have to mimic the PS3’s GPU and CPU.

This is what pops up on my web browser. So I can't even read the site. So, forget that. They don't need my data.

But let's get something straight. OG Xbox had around 1,001 games. How many are BC on Series X? **39** THIRTY NINE. Come on! That's wack BC. You can't tell me that's a complete list. Talking about commitment. Game preservation. Ridiculous. Covers nothing.

How many games released on Xbox 360? Around 2085. How many are BC?
568. That's it. Around 1,517 are **MISSING** Stop playing. Tired of that nonsense.

Anyway, the only games I really want from PS3 that would be awesome are Motorstorm and MGS4. I'll take BC. I'll take a remaster. I'll take a remake. If not those, then Killzone 2. And in VR, maybe Sports Champions, House of the Dead Overkill and the Time Crisis games.

That's all I need. But we've gone over BC again and again in every possible way. It wasn't that important because Sony sold 115 million consoles without it. That's proof enough with no outcry. And PS5 has damn near all 4,000+ PS4 games BC. It's not PS1,PS2 and PS3. But that's plenty. I'll take more but you get what you get.
