Since the Playstation Lounge opened up on November 9th, 2010 I've been meaning to get over to the Midtown East to go check this thing out.
I had a very slow post-Thanksgiving schedule so I decided to raid the Lounge and see what it was about.
So when I arrived at the Sony Building at 550 Madison Ave, I was greeted promptly when I entered the Sony Style store on the ground floor...

Honestly, it looks about the same if we are measuring a company's success on their all time high stock price. It has nothing to do with the sentiments some in the industry have.
Objectively the two biggest problems are cost cutting and consolidation.
Sony has published a new patent pertaining to unique lip-sync evaluation and fixing system to automatically fix NPC mouth movements to align them with the original dialogue’s timing, resolving sync issues.
This lip sync thing sounds pretty awesome. But one cannot shake the feeling, this is going to be combined with AI, and….. sigh
AI in this use is no big deal imo and result in better animation for character models.
If implemented correctly, AI is a great addition. For me, the problem with AI starts when companies like Activision use it to pump out art work, cosmetics etc to cut corners when they make so much money already.
A new patent published by Sony discusses PlayStation controllers that are solar-powered, with the ability to charge the battery under light.

My Samsung TV remote charges on solar-power or artificial lights. Or a USB if needed. The tech is hopefully getting better so it can charge a gaming controller.
Went there the second day it was open (missed the raffles/festivities of day one), but I thought it was a pretty sweet setup. Unfortunately, it was pretty empty (granted I was there about an hour before closing), but really MS and Sony have no chance to draw the crowds that Apple stores do. I was just happy to get a chance to try out some games like GT5, KZ3 and The Fight/
I had the chance to go on day 1. But an emergency came up and I had to leave. that sucked. I didnt know about the raffle. As for Sony and MS vs. Apple. yeah there is no competition there, but... thats like comparing apples with oranges. (pardon the pun)
