'Crackdown 2' Developer Responds To Criticisms, Talks DLC

MTV: The anticipated release of "Crackdown 2" was met with disappointment from fans and critics alike. Despite an improved co-op experience, the rest of the game felt more like an expansion pack than a full-fledged sequel. I spoke with James Cope, producer at Ruffian Games, shortly before the game's release, to get his take on some of the complaints being levied at the game.

Well at least the DLC will keep you playing the game?

matrix2245057d ago

Yep, hopefully it will be free, you know how old people like free stuff :D

dkblackhawk505057d ago

*Kevin Butler reference* lol and it fits perfectly.

GWAVE5057d ago

Wait what? Are they going to charge for this DLC, too?

Army_of_Darkness5057d ago (Edited 5057d ago )

Do exclusive developers for the xbox360 only care about making a quick buck, rather than pushing their games to the next level?!

what was the size of this game again?? 4GB?! and they already have DLC for the 360 buyers?! Hahaha! yall are being F#@Ked over right before your blurry visioned eyes man!!!
These dlc's might of actually help fill the dvd a little more!!

klado5056d ago

It was 3GB, and not it isn't he, game is more of an expansion than any sequel.

blue7xx75056d ago

@armyofdarkness I don't think it's Xbox 360 First party developers it's more Microsoft wanting to rush out this game.

It seems Microsoft is the one who pressured them to make Crackdown 2 really fast instead of letting them take their time and do a proper sequel. As oppose to having to recycle much of the content from Crackdown 1.

this game should be priced at 40 and now they want more money. Ok, there are too many good game coming out later this year (360 and ps3) no use to giving you hard earn money for this. Im sorry but its basically the truth

StanLee5057d ago (Edited 5057d ago )

Critics may have been harsh but the demo has a 4 and a half star rating on XBox Live after 24,000 plus ratings so those who have played the demo seemed to have enjoyed it. Frankly, the first Crackdown was a bit overrated. Crackdown 2 is pure fan service. It's for those who enjoyed the first and it's more of the same.

T9X695057d ago

Who said this would be paid DLC? Granted it probably is, but until pricing is confirmed it could be free, especially considering how much criticism the game is getting.

Shield5057d ago

You can find deals on CD2 if you shop around a bit. I ordered my copy from DELL.com for $39.99 + free shipping. I wouldn't have bought the game for $60, it just doesn't have enough 'new' content to justify full price but $40 is a deal to me.

talltony5057d ago

Some dlc for something that should be dlc. Now even dlc is getting dlc. Sweet!

tinybigman5056d ago

i don't care how hard they try. this game should have advanced everything from the first game, and they went backwards instead of forwards in my eyes.

matrix2245057d ago

Sounds very intersting...wonder what the dev has up his sleeve.

dkblackhawk505057d ago

Well, we will have to wait and see I guess.

ElementX5057d ago

Quit hating on Crackdown 2. Yes, it's like Crackdown 1, but I enjoyed the first one and I'm enjoying the sequel. If you don't like it, you don't have to buy it.

ReBurn5057d ago

Exactly. Looking forward to my copy arriving.

The level of stupidity on this site for this title is astounding. Is this what it takes to be part of the "in" crowd?

joydestroy5056d ago

yup, i stayed up pretty late playing around in Pacific City.
only cost me $21 so i'd say that's well worth it =D

BeaArthur5057d ago

More preplanned DLC. If I really like Crackdown 2 I'll pick it up but if it's not excellent I'm not going to be milked.

Definitely looking forward to what they will make especially for the next gen consoles.

RaidenBlack1305d ago

More R* Online content.
That's why they bought them.

1305d ago
UltraNova1305d ago (Edited 1305d ago )

Yeah their history points towards being tasked with producing online content.

On an unrelated note, after RDR2 I had my fill with Rockstar's formula (GTA/RDR). I need something new from them. Something fresh especially gameplay -wise.

I would love if R* main did Fantasy or even something space related.

You might be looking forward to things for a long time.

Hakuoro1305d ago (Edited 1305d ago )

After loving every GTA game up till the most recent one I can honestly say I'm over it. I don't care about GTA Online even the slightest and the humor and content in the single player just doesn't appeal to me the way it once did.

At one time just the fact that GTA was a huge open world was a selling point now that's not a big deal anymore, and whats left isn't as good for me as what I can find in so many other open world games.

isarai1305d ago

Well that's a nice unexpected surprise. Hopefully this helps their plans to release more games faster they mention a while ago.

RedDevils1305d ago

More like increasing staff for their GTA V online. I haven't play any Rockstar games since Read dead 2.

Mr_cheese1305d ago (Edited 1305d ago )

Even more employees to work on GTA5 so the game can see out next gen, the gen after that and potentially at a squeeze, the gen after that

SullysCigar1305d ago (Edited 1305d ago )

I'll take it in VR, otherwise don't bother, just get on with GTA6 or a Bully sequel!

VR sounds a little too hopeful, but when you think they implemented first person mode for this gen and they got LA Noire onto PSVR, one can hope. Especially with the extra power afforded by PS5.

sophia42141305d ago

Since I began with my online business, I am raking $42.4 every fifteen minutes. And, as unbelievable it sounds, doable for you is, as well, cause I’ve never had a job as easy as this one. Everyone can do it, with no exception. I suggest you, Don’t pass-up this hot chance, which you can do even in your spare time for some extra bonus bucks to your main source of income, because you might regret it afterwards. Anyway, here’s what you have to do to get started …... https://bit.ly/33IeL2o

UltraNova1305d ago

PSVR 2.0 might be the solution to that problem. We might even see GTA 6 in VR at some point.

sushimama1305d ago

Damn they really need to start releasing new games. I want GTA6 or Bully 2 :-(

Kabaneri1305d ago

Not only did we go a whole gen without a new GTA, they have the audacity to release a full priced Reremaster on PS5/XSX.

purple1011305d ago

The online on free on ps5. Same as cod warzonen is free . But normal game is costing

CrimsonWing691305d ago

check this out PS2 generation got 3 GTA games (GTA 3, GTA Vice City, GTA San Andreas, more if you count the PSP ports).

GTA V got 3 console generations (PS3, PS4, and now PS5).

It goes to show how screwed up game releases are now. We barely get as many "new games" or IPs than we did back in the PS1 - PS3 era. Now, it's all Remasters and like 1/4 of brand new titles and on top of that nothing risk taking like Parasite Eve (just the first example to come to mind).

Looking Back to 2010 with Crackdown 2 - Agent of Mayhem

Darren writes: "“XBOX NEEDS EXCLUSIVES!”. Sound familiar? It’s something that has been ringing in my ears since becoming an Xbox gamer nearly 20 years ago. It’s possibly the longest standing and harshest criticism levelled against Microsoft’s console family, and I can’t say I wholly disagree. However, there are some out there which can slip through the net every now and then. But bucking the trend was the original Crackdown, which was not one of them. It shifted a very healthy amount of units as well as drawing in universal praise from critics. A sequel then, would be a no-brainer."

It was basically crackdown 1 with zombies, was fun but corners were cut, solid game though.

Minute Man 7211401d ago

I'm still playing this, activating the beacons is a pain in the ass

IRetrouk1401d ago

Collecting those orbs and upgrading your character were addictive, it was just a shame they played it safe instead of going all out, didnt take anything away from how fun the game is though.

Crackdown 1 was one of the underrated gems of last gen. I loved that game. Crackdown 2 was crackdown 1 with added zombies and gave the map a paint job. Disappointing, but still enjoyed it for what it was with the added wingsuit, toybox mode and 4 player co-op. Crackdown 3 was basically what Crackdown 2 should have been.
