Crackdown 2 Demo Released on the Net

Ve3tro writes: " If you can’t wait till the 21st to play the Crackdown 2 demo then your in luck, some cheeky chap has uploaded the demo file onto the net.

You can download it here and the best thing about it you don’t need a modified console to play it."

sak5005061d ago

wow too much trouble of downloading creating folders and injecting into HDD or DVD and most likely to get banned as well..I can wait 3 more days.

Btw heard somewhere there are achievement for this demo any idea?

HarryM5061d ago

But you can only get the achievements once you buy the full game.

Ve3tro5061d ago

I don't think you could be banned since your not using a modded console.

There's 100 GS points to be unlocked, once you unlock them they will pop up when you insert the full game.

Chucky20035061d ago

If you didn't know now you can use am memory stick on the 360,so how hard is to create a directory called content and another one 0000000000000000,then put the demo inside, its really easy

Piracy is getting to be ridiculously bad on their console....

How come every game seems to get a pirate release before legit users get their copies? And now demos too? What next, firmware? Pirate version of Kinect (complete with build your own blueprints)?.

In fact, thinking about it, MS needed that Valve/Steam announcement more than Sony - despite it's shakey launch, Valve have managed to create in Steam a piracy combating platform even on PC. A download solution for full games on 360 might cut off piracy a bit - and MS are supposedly the champions of digital delivery (and yet seem to be lagging behind Sony in this regard).

Then again, given MS new focus on the casual gaming sector, maybe they don't really care about "core" games anymore and have written that sector off in favour of generating Kinect sales. If Kinect games get pirated at least MS have sold the peripheral at an inflated price.

Seems like a risky strategy though and the result is what we see now - publishers get more revenue out of the PS releases despite a marginally lower install base and as a result, publishers make more investment in the PS versions of their products.

If MS want to see what the future looks like for them they can check the PC, PSP and DS - all platforms where piracy is rampant.

The only thing (arguably) saving PC gaming is digital verification of software and indie-developers who can afford to operate on low profit margins.

In PSP's case, the platform is underperforming in general (in the West) due to lack of sales and in the case of DS, Ninty have to keep releasing hardware updates to try stay ahead of the pirates.

The cost of piracy on those platforms is immense to the publishers and developers and is killing 2 of them - the DS is surviving due to it's massive install base and cheap development costs.

r.

jay25061d ago

Because they used DVD, a format that had already been hacked years ago, even if they went for HDDVD drive those's have been hacked.

beans5061d ago

I think I'll wait a few more days. No thanks.

Piracy is amazingly easy on the Xbox 360. This just proves it.

Aloren5061d ago

Then if you know it's a demo why do you say this proves piracy is amazingly easy on the 360 ? last time I checked, copying a demo wasn't piracy.

lucifon5061d ago

This isn't piracy haha. The 360 is set to read demos of a disk and place them into it's Games Library. When you get an Official Xbox Mag demo disk you don't have to fire up the demos from the disk itself, you can just go into your Games Library and they'll show up. This is the exact same scenario, the 360 just reads it as a Mixed Media Disc and picks up the demo files. This does NOT work for full games, obviously.

kasasensei5061d ago

I'll give it a try, by the way. Crackdown was pretty fun, back in the 2006. It is a good opportunity to see if the recipe is still working, four years later.

Chucky20035061d ago

Is this a joke or this is how this game looks, wow i mean it looks like shit, you can even say it looks like a ps2 game cause it looks even worse than that

Why o why5061d ago

saw the footage yesterday. It looks like its been downgraded. I also prefer the art style of the 1st one.

Looking Back to 2010 with Crackdown 2 - Agent of Mayhem

Darren writes: "“XBOX NEEDS EXCLUSIVES!”. Sound familiar? It’s something that has been ringing in my ears since becoming an Xbox gamer nearly 20 years ago. It’s possibly the longest standing and harshest criticism levelled against Microsoft’s console family, and I can’t say I wholly disagree. However, there are some out there which can slip through the net every now and then. But bucking the trend was the original Crackdown, which was not one of them. It shifted a very healthy amount of units as well as drawing in universal praise from critics. A sequel then, would be a no-brainer."

It was basically crackdown 1 with zombies, was fun but corners were cut, solid game though.

Minute Man 7211387d ago

I'm still playing this, activating the beacons is a pain in the ass

IRetrouk1387d ago

Collecting those orbs and upgrading your character were addictive, it was just a shame they played it safe instead of going all out, didnt take anything away from how fun the game is though.

Crackdown 1 was one of the underrated gems of last gen. I loved that game. Crackdown 2 was crackdown 1 with added zombies and gave the map a paint job. Disappointing, but still enjoyed it for what it was with the added wingsuit, toybox mode and 4 player co-op. Crackdown 3 was basically what Crackdown 2 should have been.

mikeslemonade1469d ago

2 of the weakest graphical games

b163o11468d ago

Oh come on man, Out of all the games under M$.....really

King_Noctis1468d ago

Free is free. They could have done nothing and no one would have said anything.

So what’s the problem again?

xX-oldboy-Xx1468d ago

Sometimes it's better to do nothing, like in this case.

Or are they buttering people up for an xsx version of Crackdown 3? Re-Cracked perhaps?

King_Noctis1468d ago (Edited 1468d ago )

So let me get this straight, you think they are wrong for giving out free games to gamers?Do they force you to download the game? Are the free games expired after a set amount of time? Do they force people to buy an SX version of the game if it comes out?

You know I have seen many stupid comments over the year on this site, and yours is nearly on the top of that list, no offense.

xX-oldboy-Xx1468d ago

No they're not wrong - have at it. Just not a very worthwhile gesture. The games are old, average at best going by people's comments.

Have a crack mate, don't hold back - you couldn't upset or offend me if you tried.

And if you didn't pick up, the second part of my comment was in jest. But you lit are very defensive about ms and their pro-consumer attitude these days.

Lighten up champ - gonna be a long gen ahead haha

Casepb1469d ago

Crackdown 1 was always free.

isarai1469d ago

Yeah this, grabbed it like two years ago. Wish there was a way to play the X-enhanced version on PC

Abnor_Mal1469d ago

Stay at home initiative? Not everyone has Gamepass.

Ulf1469d ago

Crackdown 1 was a *great* game.

franwex1469d ago

Crackdown 1 was fun 13 years ago. Somewhat still fun today

Crackdown 2 sucks.

Crackdown 3 is like Crackdown 1, but with better graphics.

Play Crackdown 3. It’s a fun weekend game.

DARK_WOLF1469d ago

Crackdown 3 shouldv never existed. Of all the games microsoft couldve poured money into making they chose this.

Simply as a marketing game to show off their 'cloud' tech. Sure wasnt made for xbox fans but they tried to shove it down our throats for 5 years regardless.

No thanks.

Kribwalker1469d ago

agreed. crackdown 3 was a fun quick romp

Godmars2901469d ago

@DARK_WOLF:
CD3 exists as an attempt to showcase a version of cloud supported gaming. That said version fell apart is besides the point.

hamburgerhill1468d ago

I wish they would have just done a Crackdown 1 remake with extras instead of Crackdown 3. All those years wasted on a game that for me felt like anything but crack down.

PhoenixUp1834d ago

Can’t complain about free games

Still hate what happened with Crackdown 3 though

Sciurus_vulgaris1834d ago

I'm pretty sure even Microsoft isn't pleased with Crackdown 3 either, as they went silent on it.
