Epic Games' rival Unreal Engine 3 may have won more headlines, but id Software's upcoming id Tech 5 software will also cater to PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 - with the veteran developer confident that its newly expanded focus will help it to become competitive again in the market it once dominated.
With the first licences expected to happen this year, GamesIndustry.biz sat down with id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead and lead designer Tim Willits at E3 to discuss the changing face of technology licensing and the difficulty id has faced adjusting from a PC to a PC-and-console focus.
WTMG's Kyle Nicol: "Heading Out combines genres and styles which might sound incompatible at first glance, but did so in a very interesting manner, resulting in a truly unique roguelike experience. I, for one, really liked the presentation as well, with its slick visuals and soundtrack. It’s not entirely perfect, as the driving could have been more polished, and the pop-in glitches really took me out of the experience at times. That being said, it’s a game unlike any other out there, which wlll definitely keep you engaged through a good few runs."
