Crazy Racing Action – Blur Beta vs Split/Second Demo

It seems to happen in the videogames industry but from time to time you get two games coming out in the same release window that go completely head to head. The two titles this time around are Blur and Split/Second.

The last time this took place was with the release of Prototype and Infamous almost one year ago. Even though those two games were actually incredibly different on so many levels, the big question was flying around for just about ever as to which one would be the game of choice.

So which action racing title takes the chequered flag this time around?

Spec Ops: The Line was super dark.

Incredible story.

SheenuTheLegend477d ago

all the games in the above list are bang on. this is the only reason we need backwards compatibility and physical presense of games for the upcoming future, no matter what.

Yi-Long477d ago

Honorable mention to the excellent Driveclub, one of the best racing games of all-time and one of my favourite games ever.

melons477d ago

yes! incredible rain effects; so good to drive along in rain with your Spotify playlist blaring

Skuletor477d ago

I really wanted a MotorStorm using the same engine, Driveclub is easily one of the best looking games on PS4 and I'm surprised they didn't even give it a PS4 Pro patch.

ravens52477d ago

Yes indeed. May just install it on my PS5. You know, physical copy and all.

monkey602477d ago

I adored Driveclub and the Bike expansion. I also loved Motorstorm. Evolution shutting down was a crime

Outrun Online Arcade, Sega Rally Online Arcade, After Burner Climax... all good stuff. I keep my 360 hooked up to play these as well as the TMNT games that were also delisted.

Skuletor477d ago

I have quite a few of these. Timed licenses suck.

Terry_B477d ago (Edited 477d ago )

wow...I have all of them except the Nintendo ones either in physical or digital version.

Also..Deadpool the Game is missing on that list.

Dirt on the lens (and JJ Abrahms style overuse of lens flare) is the worst, especially in war games like Battlefield. We're not supposed to be a camera! Way to ruin the illusion of actually being the player we're controlling.

PrimeVinister1444d ago

Yeah, that's a bad one that is missing from the list

FPS_D3TH1444d ago

Most soldiers today wear goggles or tactical glasses so dirt on the lens isn’t that much of a stretch tbh

isarai1444d ago

Vignettes, chromatic aberration, and that annoying thing where they blur the corners of the screen. Also film grain.

FPS_D3TH1444d ago

All those immediately get turned off when I load up my settings haha. Unless I’m going for screenshots it’s more than annoying

PrimeVinister1444d ago

You are mostly stuck with whatever terrible effects on console. There are some options like motion blur that can switched off but it's not common

PrimeVinister1444d ago

Depth of field is annoying. Along with most camera or lens effects.

But DoF will be cool in the future when they can track what you are looking at and apply DoF accordingly.

DeviateFish1444d ago

Don't forget camera shake and "realistic" camera movement in cutscenes.

porkChop1444d ago

The Syndicate reboot had the absolute worst bloom I've ever seen. It literally hurt my eyes and gave me a headache just from playing. I could never finish it.

PrimeVinister1444d ago

Absolutely. Beyond the distraction and obstruction, it looked unpleasant a lot of the time.

EVERY Blur Game Ever

Whilst it’s rather disappointing that there are no new Blur games on the way, we can still look back at the series and reminisce.

there was more than one? man i must have really checked out after the first one.... or my lack of interest is showing. that game was..... not great.

Skuletor1860d ago

"there was more than one?" This is exactly what I just thought too. I just remember the one on PS360 and PC. The game was fun but I didn't play it much tbh

IRetrouk1860d ago

Wanted to love this game so much, but just couldn't, it was the cars handling more than anything else, why they couldn't have kept or remade the pgr handling model is anyone's guess.

JonTheGod1860d ago

2 mobile variants and a cancelled sequel do not a franchise make.

Gunstar751860d ago

Blur was a great game. Such a shame Bizaree Creations went bust.

Azraeia1859d ago

Tbf didn't know there was more than one. But looking at the other games in this list no wonder the series died after the first major title. Racing is an awkward series to compete in imo. You can't really go down the simulation route cause games like Forza have got that covered and if you want arcade smash up style racing then just play the old NFS or Burnout.
