Yeah man, I was incredibly hyped for this game.

Kinda fell flat on its face for me. The first few hours you really take in the atmosphere and are pretty engaged in it, but some of the gameplay mechanics are pretty meh.

Loses the slight scare factor it had as well.

way to hype a game up only because its exclusive, i knew the game wasnt gonna be that good. a couple of the main things i look into a game before its released (developers, timeframe of spotlight before game is released). for me to have baught this game, it would have to be a good devteam and the game has to be put in the spotlight way before its release( such as Haloreach which everyone was able look into and read about it since last years E3). if i read hideo kojima were making metro2033 and confirmed, i wouldv baught this game in a heartbeat.

I for one haven't enjoyed a game this much in a long time.
It may not be your 'extremely average FPS fanatic's cup o' tea, but then again, if it was, I wouldn't have liked either.

Also, just because every single character in the game isn't voiced by Nolan North or John DiMaggio doesn't automatically make the voice acting bad, children.

I'd say wait till you find it for $29.99 and under - and it won't be long until that. For $60? hell no. Definitely rent too if you have that option

I gather you haven't got Darksiders then? It was in the same boat as Metro, new relatively unheard of dev team, absolutely no hype and it was published by THQ. Where it differs from this game though is that its actually a solid 8.5/10. It felt to me like an old skool Zelda with a darker theme and some of the best voice acting in a multiplatform release to date imo.
I'll probably pick metro up if/ when it can be had for around £10 to £20, each to his own and all that.

Damned, I really liked the atmosphere. I really hoped to be on the edge of my seat, alone in the mines, lost. Running low on ammo, lights battery, and gas filters. Mean while, sounds of distant monstrosity is getting closer in between moments of complete silence.

Disappointed.

How does the story compare to a game like MGS4, would you say it's better, just as good, or worse considering the length of the opening cinematic, and has anyone complained about watching a game instead of playing it?

I'm just curious because of all of the media complaining about MGS4 cutscenes and then this happens without so much as a whimper.

It isn't a cutscene. You walk around your "hometown", picking up equipment and so on. And 25 mins is an exaggeration.

Still, slightly disappointed by this one.

Both games are supposed to have phenomenal writing, so the comparison is apt. The only thing I didn't know is were the cutscenes worthy of watching; but since I didn't actually know, and I also didn't know if they were or weren't cinematic, so a question was asked.

Agreed. And I've never liked this site.. They do horrible reviews and topics for the 360 and they don't even seem like fans of the console.

This site actually put out articles like "Why You Shouldn't Buy a 360" and then turn around looking for 360 gamers to give them hits.

Not that Metro hasn't been getting mixed reviews but even this seems like a low ball score..

I just got through the first four chapters. Loving it so far. If you like STALKER (especially the famous x18 labs missions), you'll love this. Great atmosphere and visuals are very impressive at times. At least they are on PC--I have yet to see with my own eyes what it looks like on the consoles.
