Dante's Inferno misses the mark in almost every way. It's dated, uninspired, repetitive, clumsy and almost totally forgettable. But - and this is a big but - there absolutely is fun to be had from Visceral's superb fighting engine and, truthfully, the simple act of hitting things until they explode is a pleasant enough distraction. That's going to be more than enough for the less discerning, more forgiving player, particularly with multiple difficulty settings to tantalise with further grasps for perfection. Anyone else, however, should quite reasonably demand more.

Overall -
There's still time for the Visceral Games cult classic action-adventure game Dante's Inferno to return to the limelight 15 years later.
Absolutely loved this game. Don't know why it went under the radar with so many people.
I think it was a couple of factors,
1. Everyone was anxiously waiting for God of War 3 to release(myself included), so we could see what the Santa Monica Studio were going to accomplish with the mighty PS3.
2. It was such a direct ripoff of the GoW formula right down to the button prompts, (such as clicking L3 & R3 to activate your ultimate) .
Now, of course lots of games borrow and evolve ideas, but this was like a carbon copy with a different skin and not quite as good or pretty.
3. It was cool to look at, it played fine, good artistic design and everything, but our standards were astronomically high after GoW 1 & 2… and it just wasn’t anything to write home about.
That being said, I have been wanting to revisit it for years.
I think with a few live service features EA could revive the IP and turn it into a million dollar franchise.
There are good video game protagonists, and there are bad video game protagonists.
I disagree that max is unlikable. Chloe is infinitely more unlikable in my opinion.
Most of these aren't even that bad. Especially comparing to others like Squall "Whatever" Leonhart, Forspoken's Frey, and the guy from Atomic Heart.
i had to stop reading after the "blatant misogyny" in the Dantes inferno section.
i actually liked Max haha.
the forspoken chick is missing tho
Grab your katana, and slice your way through this list featuring the best hack and slash games the PlayStation 3 had to offer.
Dante's inferno... an excellent GoW inspired game. So sad the sequels will never be.
heavenly sword was such a short, but amazing game. that game should be prime material to be made into a download only remaster.
I really enjoyed Castlevania, but struggled to get into it again reattempting it a few years back. I still think it does another of things well; story, presentation, level varietily and art style at least. Gameplay maybe has not stood test of time unfortunately which makes it a chore to get through.
ouch...thank god for gow3!
Gow bayonetta dmc > Dante
DAMN, i was really looking forward to this game but i think i'll get it anyway just for the sake of good story.
I guess that settled it.for the 3 new comers in 2010 the order is like this:
1-Bayonetta
2-Darksiders
3-Dante's Inferno
I can't believe IGN UK gave this a 7.... I thought the demo was a solid 8 or 8.5 at least and I enjoyed the demo more than I thought I would. Dante's Inferno may not be up to par with GOW3, but I'm probably still going to buy this game.
