NGamer Review: Manhunt 2 for Wii (Article Excerpts)

[NGamer] can't help but be slightly taken aback by [Manhunt 2's] appearance on a Nintendo console. Not surprised, and certainly not shocked, but perhaps a little - excited? - to see the bright white Wii menu fade into the darkness of what is indisputably the most gruesome videogame [NGamer has] ever played on any platform.

brutal nice. You get to feel more into the game with the motion controlls they say. Should be intresting how Wii owners react to this game

Torch6523d ago

and wait for Super Mario Manhunt!

It's been a long time coming, to finally be able to see some blood and guts spilling out of those pesky turtles!

I think it's due to be released some time late next year, isn't it?...shortly after Zelda: The Taoru Village Massacre! ;)

emptiness6523d ago

i think i'll pass on this one...there's enough violence in the world already. i don't need to reenact any for "fun".

Torch6523d ago (Edited 6523d ago )

But I suppose it's no different than watching a slasher horror flick, a gladiator movie, attending boxing/UFC match, or even watching CNN.

It's in us to be curious about, and attracted to, violence. Admittedly, I'm guilty of being one of them. However, the last thing I'd EVER want to do is emotionally or physically hurt anyone without merit, or actually be on the receiving end of such a situation.

I'm speaking in general terms, of course...there are a always exceptions to the rule (likely such as yourself.)

ItsDubC6523d ago

Other games make murder easy and thoughtless. Running someone over in GTA is commonplace, but it is still murder. Shooting others to kill them is the whole point of most FPSs, but the murderous activity is downplayed and yet it is still murder. The difference with this game is that more thought and detail is put into the action of killing. There are bad sides to all forms of murderous portrayal.

emptiness6523d ago

@Torch why would you even say something like that? i'm an exception? so you have no problem with hurting me emotionally or physically? i can't believe you said that. you're seriously cruel.

@ItsDubC yes running over people in cars is murder too but manhunt2 for the wii involves a less detached form of murder. this is one of the reasons why BBFC or whatever didn't put a rating on it.

Torch6523d ago

No! No!..Oh boy, talk about misunderstandings!...

I'm sorry, but what I meant was that you may be the exception to the general majority's acceptance/desire for violence...NOT that I wanted to hurt you.

Rereading my comment, I can see how you interpreted it the way you did. Again, sorry, but rest assured that my reference to you had absolutely no malicious intentions whatsoever!...If anything, please take it as a compliment.

emptiness6523d ago (Edited 6523d ago )

oh ok, i apologize for misreading your intentions... thank you for clarifying because that really made me feel like crap...

I'll have to buy this game when it hits!

Bathyj6523d ago

Great, the Wii finally gets a good game besides Zelda and I'll probably never get to play it. Shazbutt.

Torch6523d ago

You can't just buy it internationally (i.e., Ebay) and have it shipped to you?

I'm not immediately familiar with your region codes, but there must be a source somewhere, no?

ItsDubC6523d ago

"executions are much more physical with the Wii controls, and we found we felt more immersed in the game world in general thanks to them."

This is one of the reasons I bought a Wii - more immersive gaming.

I really hope the UK reconsiders the ban of this game. What's the use of the rating system on the front cover if games that are of a certain rating will be banned? Perhaps the rating system needs to be re-evaluated to include more specific rating levels?

You know usually when someone says "you may have missed" it's games that were lesser known, hidden gems, underrated games. These are all super high profile games that sold extremely well.

FPS_D3TH857d ago (Edited 857d ago )

You know the 2000s is 20 years ago too? Maybe, just maybe this wasn’t an article targeted to 30+ gamers? Still says at the very beginning of the title “THE BEST GAMES you may have missed”. Regardless of how well they sold there’s tons of gamers who haven’t touched these older well known games lol.

Welshy857d ago (Edited 857d ago )

It's games you "may have missed", insinuating you were around and gaming in the 2000's and were there to miss them. If it was aimed at everyone else then they missed literally everything, not just the top games.

The original commenter is right, this is a badly written article at best pointless at worst.

Crows90857d ago

Besides only being able to miss it if you were around during that time..if your point stands then this is a horrible list. Tons of better games people may have missed

XxINFERNUSxX857d ago

I would like the original max payne remade in a new engine with ray tracing. 😊

FPS_D3TH857d ago

Remedy games already working on that and I’m so stoked for it

XxINFERNUSxX857d ago

Oh yeah thanks for reminding me I totally forgot they were doing it. Also what the hell happened to Kingpin: Reloaded? On Steam coming soon and nohting from the dev.

MadLad857d ago

Yeah, I was just going to say. It's interesting seeing them back behind the series. Max Payne 3 was amazing, but then Rockstar just sat on the IP.
Well, they sit on virtually anything that isn't GTA and Red Dead now.

porkChop857d ago

What is this list? These are all hugely popular games. I was expecting games like Dark Messiah of Might & Magic, Advent Rising, Arx Fatalis, etc.

FPS_D3TH857d ago

the title didn’t say lesser known titles from the 2000s. This is 20 years ago now lol. Big assumption this list was made for older gamers.

Dirty_Lemons856d ago

That makes me feel so old.

Inverno857d ago

I've only played 3 on that list. Part of me feels bad about how little I used all the consoles I've owned as a kid. One bright side is, there's over 30 years of games to experience for the first time.

Wow is it cheesier than it sounds? It sounds dope on paper.

Rebel_Scum1510d ago

Who was that guy recently who said Rockstar dont want to do just meaningless ports?

Cos something like this would be cool if you combine 3, SA and VC maps. Change characters a la GTAV style. Insert some quests in each game to tie in the connection between the three players and have post endgame content of all three games with more missions/heists.

Just a thought.

roadkillers1510d ago

I would be all for it. Sick of playing a gangster, switch to GTA3 playing as a Mob member or Vercetti.

chiefJohn1171510d ago (Edited 1510d ago )

You had only 1 or 2 gta games where you played a gangster

Profchaos1509d ago

I've played a few mods like this way back when the only two cities were liberty and vice the fact the old 3d games still have active modding communitys shows that there's still a huge pull to these classics I hope rockstar comes through with proper remakes not just that really bad HD San Andreas and mobile anniversary edition of vc and 3

Ranking Every Single Rockstar Game

GI: "Over the past two decades, Rockstar Games has emerged as a force to be reckoned with in the games industry. Rising up from quirky Scotland-based developers with a taste for pulp and crime fiction, Rockstar evolved radically, shifting into innovators and provocateurs, creating some of the industry's most influential and blockbuster titles. In the lead up to the eagerly anticipated Red Dead Redemption 2, we came together as a staff to rank every single game that Rockstar developed (this means we excluded published titles like L.A. Noire and Smuggler's Run). From the humble top-down beginnings of Grand Theft Auto to the blood-soaked streets of Manhunt and the beautiful jaw-dropping vistas of Red Dead Redemption, you’ll find every single title put in its proper place in terms of influence, importance of innovation, and just plain fun."

Ranking games on best graphics and best game play and best soundtrack is one thing, but I rank them in terms of when they came out and how they made me feel at the time. For me GTAIII is the best GTA game of all time. Because of how I felt while playing it in 2001/2002. It gave me the most fun, wow factor and joy I can remember of all the games. There's nothing like your first.

Sam Fisher2380d ago

Def vice city, and the snuff stuff of manhunt

zahdab2380d ago

I would say the first red dead redemption for me ... that game was so immersive

RizBiz2380d ago

Still the best racing series ever made.

nucky642380d ago

hard to argue that, orion - #3 was awesome. but for me, nothing beats vice city - that map was set up so well and the soundtrack/radio banter was amazing.
for me, VC is tied with RDR1 for best rockstar game - both gave me all the things you describe. of course, RDR2 hits this week and i'm prepared to be gobsmacked once again.

RizBiz2380d ago

The radio banter was amazing. I've never put down my controller to listen to a game for 30 minutes, except for in Vice City.
