Lord of the Rings MMO for 360 to Potentially Debut at $12.99/month

GameDaily has discovered a new online gaming survey from Intellisurvey that appears to not only confirm the development of a Lord of the Rings Online for the Xbox 360 (as Destructoid reported earlier this year), but also reveal details about the MMO's proposed pricing structure and future downloadable content.

sorry, that was just sitting there looking at me, taunting me to use it

FragMnTagM5462d ago

But I will never pay for WOW this game, or any other game that costs me more than my live subscription. At least with my Live subscription, and my PSN account, I can play tons and tons and tons of games for little to no money at all.

I have always thought it is retarded to pay a monthly subscription for any game. I am not broke, I just don't see the point. I do realize the game takes maintenance to run them, but find some other way to charge for running it. Like make it free to play, and then charge for cool items and stuff. That is the only way I will play an MMO.

I hate the idea of having to pay for items and stuff in an MMO. The model would mean that those paying hundreds of dollars each month for items would get advantage over who pay less for them. And there are even people who are prepared to pay thousands of dollars per month for a game.

Ok, perhaps they could sell stuff which looks great but are completely useless in PVP. Those paying for items should not get any advantage over any other players at least on PVP.

$12.99! Better have a beta like final fantasy and phantasy star.

timestoby5462d ago

GiantEnemyCrab5462d ago

Then you might potentially get the biggest laugh out of me this generation.

I am paying $50 for online play and then to play this online game I have to spend $12.99 more??

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Listen LoTR MMO devs and MS... Please go find the biggest tree you can and shove it straight up your arse.

Insulting!

mirroredderorrim5462d ago

Agreed, Crab. Agreed.

Paying double, sometimes triple just to reach the online aspect of a game is not worth it to me as well.

F**ck the money, people! What about that labor, the hard work you used to get that money?
Money is sh!t, but it used to represent labor, work... now it just represents debt!

Use your debt wisely. :(

Chubear5462d ago

why, it's only 43cents a day! Pfft! lol

7thNightvolley5462d ago

You don't need LIVE Gold in order to play MMOs on the 360. You only need to pay the monthly subscription for the game. They're not making you pay for Gold membership AND for the game. You could still play with just the subscription fee of the game.

Tony P5462d ago

You don't need a gold account. But the fact is, if you bought a 360 for online multiplayer in any form, you most likely have a gold account already. So I think the complaint is justified. You could easily cancel your gold account to take advantage of 360 MMOs, but who's actually going to do that and lose the ability to play online with the near entirety of the 360 library?

If it comes down to a choice between the few 360 MMOs and the hundreds of games (including XBLA), who's realistically going to do that? Instead you're going to get double charged, which is unfortunate. Better to stick to PC or maybe PS3 for MMOs imo.

GiantEnemyCrab5462d ago

and that's sort of my point in the midst of that rant. If I have Gold I should be able to play the MMO's for free. Not pay $50 for the connection from my computer to XBL and then pay another fee to be able to play the game.

I understand the costs are high when running an MMO but MS should be able to subsidize that with my Gold $$$$.

IdleLeeSiuLung5462d ago

Why are people all enraged about this? People weren't enraged about this when WOW charged $15-13/month? So why are upset about this now?

I smell fanboism!

NegativeCreepWA5462d ago

When playing an mmo on the 360 your not connecting to through the Live servers at all, so it doesn't have anything to do with your Live subscription. While playing FFXI you don't even need to be signed into Live. MS doesn't do the work on the servers so why should we be paying them for it.

If MS was publishing it I would agree with you. But their not so get over it.

As The 17th Anniversary Approaches, Lord Of The Rings Online Details 2024 Plans

New raids, class updates, festivals and more are on the calendar.

Now this makes me feel old! I remember playing the beta while I worked at Gamestop. I honestly didn't even know this game was still online! A quick search showed that it's even F2P now, so I may check it out for nostalgia's sake.

I only subbed at launch for 1-2 months bc I was already caught up in WoW at the time. I love the LotR universe though and would like to see how it's being handled these days.

Middle-earth Enterprises sends cease-and-desist letter to LOTRO rogue server project

From MMORPG: "Some Lord of the Rings Online players may have been aware of an unofficial rogue server project that was set to release this month called Echoes of Angmar. Aiming to create a true vanilla version of LOTRO, trait lines and map-less Old Forest and all, the server ran the real risk of drawing legal ire down on its head because of the unlicensed use of a very much still-operating and still-in-development MMO.

PLAY LOTRO FOR FREEAnd in fact, the Echoes of Angmar’s team received a cease-and-desist letter from Middle-earth Enterprises today demanding the cessation of all work and operation: “It is thus with a heavy heart that we must ask that you immediately cease all of your unauthorized use of Echoes of Angmar, and all other Tolkien-related IP on all platforms.”
