PS5 Update 24.01-08.60.00 Adds New Party Features and More

Sony has rolled out PS5 update 24.01-08.60.00 (also known as 24.01-08.60.00.04), and aside from stability, also adds new features.

First bug I came across was downloads toggling between displaying in the Download/Upload sections.

I hate to tell you this. But this is a ps5 not 4. And who cares .

It is good to have options but why do people cares about what you see when you are not actually playing games so much? 90% I jump back to my games right away without seeing the OS, and how would custom themes work in the current OS at all? The game that you highlight became the theme, where the background and the music changes, it doesn't even make sense to have theme now, but some gamers decided to whine until PS6 comes out and never be happy with their PS5... so weird.

Agreed, although I did like my dynamic themes but I'm also happy seeing a different background as I scroll across my games too.
Some people moan for the sake of moaning, and as we know gamers like to be Fannie's these days.
It's like they are looking to moan before even seeing a new UI or playing a game etc.

100% agree. I have these awesome photo modes and nothing to do with those photos. I used to put them on the background of the PS4 and change it up every so often. It was nice to have this bad ass GT Sport picture I took and modified just sitting there while I cleaned house and listened to Spotify. Not everyone uses their systems for only games and is playing like an addict 24/7. I'm one of them who cares.

To each their own, but I don't understand the obsession with themes personally. I barely spend any time on the homescreen and when I do, app specific backgrounds serve a purpose by emphasizing what I'm hovering on. I just don't see much room for customization.

Whatever happened to BC, is it really that hard to make software that ran on the ps4 work on the ps5?

At this point, I'm pretty sure it's safe to say it isn't coming, there doesn't seem to be any hint that they'll implement it.

There never will be.

But does it really matter though? Does it harm your enjoyment of the games you play on it? Personally I'd rather see performance improvements and additional useful features, rather than themes when there is nothing really wrong with the PS5s UI as is.

Plus it kind of already has its own theme in the way the background changes to reflect whatever game or app you happen to be hovering on. The Steam Deck does something very similar.

If you really want to use your own pictures, you can use them on your profile banner.

Still waiting for theme customization. Both PS3 & PS4 allowed this. I don't see why the PS5 shouldn't get this option as well.

Kinda pointless with quick resume now, I only see the dashboard when I switch games (takes less than 5 seconds), or when I am in the PSN store, which the theme doesn't affect anyways.

The reason it seems there may not be themes is when you are on a tile of a game it puts a theme up from that game.

I like themes but only changed them maybe 2-3 times a generation and Sony probably knows most people do the same so it is not a priority. It would be cool to have but it may not come any time soon or at all.

Fun fact: the Switch was released in 2017 and allows you to choose a theme. 7 years later, the Switch still only has exactly 2 theme colors - black and white.

I guess since the Inzone was made by Sony Electronics, they won’t be adding an equalizer for that.
