It appears Bungie has done the unthinkable and laid off Michael Salvatori, Destiny’s famed composer responsible for countless incredible tracks in franchise history.

https://www.ign.com/article...

More info has released. Bungie wanted to keep the right ppl on board and essentially trim the fat for efficiency.

Also this was NOT Sony's call but Bungies own doing in layoff by Pete Parsons. It's said it's about 100 people got let go with is 8% of the company.

Light Fall underperformed failed to gain player interest with mixed to unfavorable reviews or the expansion. Dwindling numbers were to blame for the cuts.

They missed their revenue target by 45% which is wildly unrealistic I guess they expected ppl to spend allot on their last expansion and the micros.

This is classic Bungie this would of happened regardless if they were owned or not. They've always had shaky management.

Michael Salvatori is yet another unfortunate casualty of Bungie.

Yeah and those shaky managers are still there while Michael Salvator and many other good talented people were let go. The state of Destiny 2 is because of those managers ignoring the ideas from the talented people who know and love the game. Sony even paid Bungie $1.2 billion to help them avoid staff layoffs. Sony should step in and show those in upper management the door, what reckless waste of resources.

Lightning77550d ago (Edited 550d ago )

If I was Sony I would be beyond pissed. All that money spent, only for them to let go of the talent. Sony definitely needs to step in. This is also equivalent of 343 and MS. They stepped in gutted the bad management and bloat now they're releasing one of their best expansions now.

That's only possible with job cuts and light reconstructions within the team. Sony should do the same and bring back the good ppl at Bungie and let go all the bad management.

Michiel1989550d ago

@lightning77 Sony obviously knew of this....it's also not that weird since restructuring happens a lot after a company is acquired.

"Bungie took responsibility for the layoffs, rather than laying them at the feet of parent company Sony."

I guess I don't understand how this means it wasn't Sony's call, sure they took responsibility for it because Destiny's 2 expansion didn't sell like they had hoped but when you're losing money you have to answer to the owner which is Sony and find a solution... which was laying people off.

TriniOutsider550d ago

Even though Sony owns Bungie. They allowed Bungie to remain independent from them. So that leaves Bungie's upper management to make the calls.

Extermin8or3_550d ago

I mean his work on the final shape is likely complete anyway

Gameseeker_Frampt550d ago

So? Do you think that there will be no music in Marathon, Destiny 2 future expansions, or any other Bungie game?

It is amusing seeing some trying to defend the firing of one of the best composers in video games who has been one of the few consistently great things in Destiny 2.

Inverno550d ago

Well his music wasn't making them money so he had to go. /s

XBManiac550d ago

Bungie is too big in the marketing and pr side for a two (one) games company. New management and Sony guidance could be a good thing for Bungie, but it'they have lost a year or more... they need to do things or this can turn a Microsoft buys developer situation.

Tankbusta40550d ago

Maybe create a new game? They have beat Destiny 2 like a dead horse....no wonder they have struggled with revenue

SimpleSlave550d ago

And those 100 people were the ones solely responsible for the Dumpster Fire that is Destiny 2 and not the employees that only did what they were told to do or else...right?
