Nice. I still have my sealed copy I got for Xmas. Lol. But good to see that the og voice lady tirade didn’t impact sales as it’s already matching 2.

Vx_476d ago

not really "Nice" that is actually very little for an AAA game and 114 million switch owners.

Neonridr476d ago

it's a pretty niche category, this doesn't have the same appeal as other big name games.

CobraKai476d ago

It is when you consider that the lifetime sales of 2 on WiiU and Switch is only like 300K more than 3 at this point. Bayonetta 1 lifetime sales are only at 1.7m which was on PS360. Which also had millions and millions of owners. Gotta look at the positives dude.

Neonridr is right. It’s niche, it doesn’t have the same broad appeal or recognition as Super Mario Kart.

Ryuha1234h477d ago

It would have sold way more. If it was also on PlayStation.

Sonyslave3477d ago

How much did Bayonetta 1 sold on both 360 and ps3 ? You know the consoles that adult play on it considering people say Nitendo consoles are for kids and yet Bayonetta 3 sold just as much as one.

jznrpg477d ago (Edited 477d ago )

It was a new IP then . A little different

VersusDMC477d ago (Edited 477d ago )

2 million ps3/360 combined. So it hasn't sold as much as one.

And in 2009 when Bayonetta came out there was 25 million PS3s and 30 million X360s sold compared to 114 million switches sold right now.

CobraKai477d ago

I think that part 2 being a Nintendo exclusive and selling close to PS360 numbers for part 1is still quite telling. Could it sell more on multiple consoles? Absolutely, but neither Sony or MS, or any other publisher for that matter, wanted Bayonetta 2, Nintendo did and funded the game so it would get a release as a WiiU exclusive.

mkis007477d ago

It isn't Nintendo's typical demographic.

Asplundh477d ago

@Versus
Where are you getting that it sold 2 million on ps3 & 360? I don't see that anywhere.

VersusDMC477d ago

"The first Bayonetta has seen multiple releases, first launching on the PS3 and Xbox 360, and managed 2 million copies between those systems."

P_Bomb477d ago

@mkis007
You might be right.

EternalTitan476d ago (Edited 476d ago )

Bayo 1 sold around 3 million across all platforms+PC steam.

My thoughts exactly but Nintendo was willing to fund it when no one else would.

CrimsonWing69477d ago

You do realize Nintendo saved this franchise, right? It didn’t sell well enough for a sequel on PS3 and Xbox 360 combined and Nintendo funded both 2 and 3.

So, I don’t know, man. History shows that it didn’t sell way more on PlayStation, so I don’t know how accurate it would be to say this would’ve sold “way more” on PlayStation.

That being said, yea, I wish I could play it on PlayStation with trophies and better performance and fidelity.

shinoff2183477d ago

Someone did point out when part 1 released there was only 25 mill ps3 and 30 mill 360s sold. If true selling 2 million is pretty good.

CrimsonWing69477d ago

@shinoff2183

Is it though? Because my understanding is Sega didn’t see it that way.

war boy476d ago

Yes, it would’ve sold more on PlayStation and switch, it would’ve run better also on PlayStation but nice to see that Nintendo is still supporting this IP, even though the sales aren’t really that great.

Jin_Sakai477d ago

Yes but Nintendo stepped in and saved the game after Sega stopped publishing Bayonetta 2 . They agreed to finance the development of Bayonetta 2 and become the publisher. We have Bayonetta 3 thanks to Nintendo.

Yui_Suzumiya476d ago (Edited 476d ago )

Who cares? Playstation sucks this generation. All you need is a Switch OLED and you're good to go for the time being at least.

476d ago
Neonridr476d ago

Sony could have funded development of a sequel if they wanted to. Be thankful Nintendo saved the IP.

Not very good considering the amount of Switch’s out there. I thought it would be at least a few million. Less than 1% bought it

CrimsonWing69476d ago (Edited 476d ago )

It’s always been a niche IP. You need to look at the specific demographics of the Switch. Numbers of consoles sold don’t necessarily mean guaranteed sales for a game. You could also assume all Bayonetta hardcore fans bought a Switch and that’s literally the number or some fell out of the hobby and lost interest and the remainder were curious consumers.

The franchise never sold gangbusters. That’s being niche for ya.

Tacoboto477d ago

This game really doesn't deserve the sales. Framerate is awful, it doesn't look graphically or artistically better than 2, Viola as a character is annoyingly written, and the game design just feels like it fell apart especially when you're Bayonetta.

It feels like the main driving force isn't the actual gameplay or the combat, but their attempt at forcing through another 1-3 minute cutscene to introduce another mini boss with an aburdly long name with Bayonetta saying as many sexually-suggestive puns as they can fit in. Throw in 2-3 minutes of fighting, repeat it 5-10x per chapter, and that's our game. Jeanne's missions have longer comic cutscenes to introduce her than the time it takes to finish one.

I played 1 and 2. But 1 and 2 were great games, with great pacing and Bayonetta being suggestive but not to the point that it was all they were trying to show us. 3 I think is the Switch title I've been most disappointed by - It's just too dang distractingly overindulgent.

VersusDMC477d ago

I am struggling to play it at the moment with the muddy textures, pop in and frame rate. Hard not to notice when i just played DMCV PS5.

And i still think Bayo 1 and 2 look and run better.

Concertoine477d ago (Edited 477d ago )

At first I appreciated the ambition, but the game has awful pacing with next to no personality for any of its characters, even Bayonetta. The first two games were so much more visually interesting and entertaining to play. You can't even hear the enemies which are just malevolent bobs. The combat feels much less tight and has less flow than the second or especially first game. This is all beside the fact that the game looks like its from 2006.

That said, I'm glad it's doing okay. I feared worse sales than this. I would rather play a crappy game like Bayonetta 3 or No More Heroes 3 than most of the games coming out these days. I know Platinum games has the potential to make something great, just not on Switch. This genre has eclipsed it (sorry).

jznrpg477d ago (Edited 477d ago )

The technical issues is what has me holding out . It’s been out for a while now and I’ve heard it still has some major issues . Most likely I will have to wait for the Switch 2 remaster so it will tun at a smooth 30fps lol. I have a lot of Nintendo Gift Cards from Xmas left but I won’t buy a game that runs crappy . Wish they were PS gift cards instead I used all of those I got from Xmas already .

-Foxtrot477d ago

I just hated the over use of kaiju like fights

Always the voice just wasn’t the same

Let’s not forget another issue

*spoilers*

How Bayonetta and Jeanne died, they’ve survived so much yet they went out in such stupid ways

Tacoboto477d ago

Do you mean the fight against Vanjilorouscus, against Eumorphititus, or the one against Expeliartiscus followed by Ohsomanysyllabulus?

shinoff2183477d ago

Aybe it was the devs way of ending the series

Sciurus_vulgaris477d ago

I’m personally not too into Bayonetta 3 either. I beat Bayonetta 1 &2 in a few long sittings. However, I often stop playing Bayonetta 3 for weeks at a time.I started playing through the game in January. There are too many gimmicks (2D levels, weird big demons, etc.) and the graphics can look awful (especially the Jeanne missions). The levels are big just for the sake of being big. I don’t want to walk around a big, relatively empty, ugly level that looks like an early 360 title.

lellkay476d ago (Edited 476d ago )

As a huge Bayo fan I have to agree. The direction of this game, art wise, gameplay wise, story wise, performance wise.. all of it... it's a mess and a leads to really uneven and unenjoyable experiance.

I play Bayo 1 and 2 multiple times a year, but 3 I've finished once and i doubt I'll ever play it again.

Viola is horrible to play as and a completely unlikeable character. The enemies are boring visually and frustrating to fight, the bosses lack any personality or interesting memorable encounters. Bayo has mostly lost her attitude and charm.

I really don't know what happened.

Over 120 million Switch consoles sold & only 1 million Switch owners played Bayonetta 3? One would have figured it would have sold several of millions. Oh well.

Bayonetta 3's Director Was Worried Hideki Kamiya Would Interfere

PlatinumGames has released the first of a four-part documentary examining the development of Bayonetta 3. It's jam-packed with fascinating anecdotes from the team, including a rather surprising revelation from the game's director, Yusuke Miyata.

Miyata confirmed that Hideki Kamiya, creator of the Bayonetta franchise, approached him directly to offer up the role of the sequel's director. However, instead of jumping at the opportunity, Miyata was initially hesitant and was worried that Kamiya himself would interfere in the project too much.
