Time to think outside the (check) box
Assassin's Creed Shadows' take on Japan might just beat Sucker Punch, but it's closer than you'd think.
Ok… so which game got the Japanese pissed off enough to complain about it in the diet (Japanese parliament)?
Ghost of Tsushima was the first PlayStation first-party title to sell over 1 million copies in Japan, as per former executive Shuhei Yoshida.
It was a great game.
All my Japanese friends loved it.
I remember I would visit my friend who owned a bar and we will talk about the game and sometimes other Japanese dude will join in. Pretty dope
That’s great and a little hilarious how when it was revealed western journalists tried to give off the impression that it came off racist with it being made by non Japanese developers.
The Watazumi Shrine, which has ties to Ghost of Tsushima, has banned all tourists from its sacred grounds following a serious incident.
My mind always goes straight to us Yankees, then I'm reminded of how equally full of shite the rest of the world is. Seems most of Japans problems with tourists have been either Chinese or Koreans. Don't talk to me about racism if you can't acknowledge it happens well outside the US.
Failings? Open-World games are very successful. If you don't like them, then don't buy them.
Ghost of Tsushima and the failings of the articles written about it.
Time to think outside of the checkbox of hating on new and popular games.
There's nothing wrong with them. But, if you keep playing them back to back, you'll become jaded from them. Like I did with GTA. I was done with the series after San Andreas. It became boring with that same gameplay loop. Haven't bought one since.
So, I changed my strategy: buy only one open world game every once in a awhile. And after I play one or during, I go back to linear, story driven games, VR, old school side scroller kick and punch games, arcade games, puzzle games, etc. Mix it up. You don't have to play them all.
This whole gen I've only played Horizon, Spider-Man and now, Ghost of Tsushima. I don't really count Skyrim only because I never played it before and it's awesome in VR as an archer and mage. Totally different than a flat screen game.
You got to space them out. It would be the same if you played too many linear games or puzzle games or racing games. It's going to get boring if you don't space out and diversify your line-up of games.
Open world isn’t a genre it’s a game design
I have zero problems with this because the setting makes it very grounded. Everything fits.
