Not really a fair comparison when one is a current gen game vs an old gen one.

Specially when GoY is just around the corner.

TheExecutioner61d ago

Let's compare it to other games of its generation.

Compared to titles like The Witcher 3 or Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, its open world felt restrained. While the game had a solid story, its gameplay content was lacking for an open-world experience.

The world itself felt lifeless, relying heavily on camp clearing, collectibles, and repetitive side activities rather than dynamic or immersive interactions.

IAMRealHooman61d ago (Edited 61d ago )

So that's why the witcher 3 is better than valhalla and shadows?

Christopher61d ago (Edited 61d ago )

So, a game has both immersive interactions and repetitive side activities, therefore it's worse. I don't get that logic unless you don't know the game does have immersive interactions.

There's plenty of complaints about AC Shadows open world, don't need to make any up. 75% of the world itself is useless and should have been closed off, for example. Traveling through it is nothing but running into trees over and over or skirting mountain sides you can't climb. It doesn't need vantage points to unlock interesting areas, that's literally cooked in with dynamic NPCs that immerse you in the world. You don't need to make up stuff. It's got issues as it is.

DivineHand12561d ago (Edited 61d ago )

"While the game had a solid story, its gameplay content was lacking for an open-world experience.

Let me start by saying Ghost of Tsushima is a great game. The beautiful environments, sound track, sword styles and the unique navigation system gave us a breath of fresh air in the genre but I think you are spot on with the issues wrong with the Ghost of Tsushima. I have not played AC Valhalla but I did play AC Odyssey. There was so much going on in that world that you can easily lose track of time in real life. There were also decisions you make early game that can have consequences for you later in the game.

I hope Ghost of Yotei builds from those other open world games and becomes a much better game than the Ghost of Tsushima.

Armaggedon61d ago

Witcher 3 was dry. Had to force myself to finish that game

I was talking about ghost of Tsushima

I would hope so, GoT is an older gamer.
We are suppose to be advancing.

Furesis61d ago

What the fuck does that mean? sekiro is better than both of those games and is older.
Advancing he says as if it's some kind of linear line we are moving along. There are good games and bad games this is in the middle. I'd rather play 20 year old games than this slop.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH61d ago

Have you played it? What’s so bad about it in your opinion?

Armaggedon61d ago

People speak with such furosity, almost as if not realizing that what game is better than the other is subjective.

Fonsecap60d ago

Armaggedon your comment apply to every comment section on the internet. Some comments seem so aggressive that, it almost look like if the person responding was near of the guy who commented in the first place, the first would assault the second.

goken61d ago

Historic accuracy… firstly there is no evidence yasuke was a samurai. Given that a samurai needs to train their whole life to become a samurai, maybe it’s kinda insulting to Japanese culture and history so say that yasuke was a samurai.
In a game, yasuke being a samurai is fine, but to say it’s historically accurate… is potentially insulting to the Japanese.

InUrFoxHole61d ago

Sorry but gaming doesn't care about your feels.

goken61d ago

Huh? I don’t even know what you mean? (Grammar not withstanding)
Is gaming capable of caring one way or another?

InUrFoxHole61d ago

Lol not you directly but to the history aspect. Suck it up. It's a game.

Angyobangyo60d ago

But apparently comments on this site hurts yours.

InUrFoxHole60d ago

@Angy
I don't know if this is a generational gap thing but trust when I say. It's gonna take more than a n4g comment to get me In my feels. This isn't the first time Yasuke has been depicted as a samurai in media.
Koei Tecmo, has him in both Nioh and samurai warrior games, pretty sure koei Tecmo is Japanese

goken61d ago

Hey no problems yasuke being depicted as a samurai… the problem is the article depicting it as “historically accurate”….

gigoran860d ago

Sure, but to the best of my recollection, it's the first time a publisher has come out day one and claimed it to be an historical fact and if you don't agree then you're a racist. There is a big difference between someone making a purely fictional fantasy game, and another demanding you regard it as fact.

DivineHand12561d ago

Historic accuracy is not important since many of the Assassina Creed games deviate from that. I believe you fought against mythical beings in the previous games. The only people who put so much stock in Yasuke's race are the racist.

The main issue the Japanese people have with the game is in the previous gameplay reveals, the devs in all their wisdom showed the player destroying a temple which was seen as disrespectful to the Japanese people. This created a fear that some may see it and mimic that on their actual temples.

IAMRealHooman61d ago

odyssey: fought medusa, cyclops, a minotaur, your end up living for thousands of years, because you hold onto a magical spear.

goken61d ago

I never said historically accuracy was important to a game… i am referencing the Article, which says that shadows is better than GOT in terms of historical accuracy.

Also I didn’t bring up race, you did.

DivineHand12561d ago (Edited 61d ago )

@Goken you are here trying to downplay that Yasuke was a samurai. According to the Shinchō Kōki manuscript which kept some record of his life, Yasuke was granted the rank of Samurai from Oda Nobunaga after he showed he had incredible strength as a warrior. He was the first foreigner to receive the samurai rank and was taken in as an attendant. It cannot be seen as disrespectful to the Japanese people if one of the most powerful figures in Japanese history gave him that rank. Not much else was documented about him but I personally have not played Assassin's Creed Shadows nor do I care if it is historically accurate.

Abnor_Mal61d ago (Edited 61d ago )

There a story I’ve seen going around about Japan banning locals and foreigners from a temple made popular “worldwide” after being depicted in Ghost of Tsushima.

I’m not sure how true it is, but there are several different articles.

https://www.ign.com/article...

goken61d ago

I am not downplaying anything.
No problem Yasuke being a samurai.

My problem is with the article claiming historical accuracy.

goken61d ago

@Abnor_Mal

Interesting.
But appears to be some incident that triggered the ban.

Black myth wukong also used real life temples and statues for many of their locations. Caused a huge spike in popularity in the real life locations.
So far they seem to be happy with the surge in popularity, i wonder if issues would emerge further down

pwnmaster300060d ago (Edited 60d ago )

I don’t care if he was depicted as a samurai.
I think he looks cool, but he was never granted the rank Samurai.

Idk where you got your facts from but he was a retainer, not a samurai.
Big difference.
Don’t go up making false history.

“It cannot be seen as disrespectful to the Japanese people if one of the most powerful figures in Japanese history gave him that rank.”

That never happened. No records whatsoever.
It’s widely believed he was there for show. Like a human pet.
Also if you arnt japanese you cannot say it’s not disrespectful. Do you 100% know their culture. If not then you have no stand.

DivineHand12560d ago (Edited 60d ago )

It only took me a few minutes to look up the history of Yasuke, and multiple online sources have the man as a samurai. The story of Yasuke also originated from a professor at the University of Tokyo. He was also taken in by Oda Nobunaga as a vassal, not a retainer. I have attached one of the sources I came across.

https://www.britannica.com/...

Also, to address your other point, I don't have to 100% know Japanese culture; I simply look at what they are saying and what issues they had with Assassin's Creed Shadow. Yes, there will be a few that hate the game simply because they featured a black samurai, but I have a feeling that most of that hate is coming from the west. The Japanese people straight-up had major concerns about their shrines being destroyed in a video game, and their prime minister even commented on it. Ubisoft had put in a day one patch to address the issue with the shrines to damage control.

https://www.nme.com/news/ga...

It only takes a few minutes of your time to look online and see what others are saying about this game. I don't have to make up anything since it is all there out in the open for those who wish to seek out the information.

IAMRealHooman60d ago

@pwnmaster3000

William Adams in Nioh Was an Irish Pirate.

He was English.

He could also channel amrita and be revived by spirit beasts, and cast fire jutsu.

He could not do that in real life.

William encounters Yasuke the Obsidian Samurai in game.

They never met.

Nioh was a Japanese developed game.

pwnmaster300060d ago (Edited 60d ago )

You must of been reading just the title and not the article itself if it only took you a couple of minutes but for every article I read, the majority states they arnt 100% sure if he was.
There are actually a lot of sources saying he isn’t also.
Not enough of proof to even say he was.
Even this Japanese historian that was interviewed by wired says is not enough proof.
https://youtu.be/IEpd2SVw0F...

Also if your talking about Yu Hirayama, the historians that made several books about the era, even he admits there was no documentations, but he believes he was.
Like again no proof just opinion.

I don’t care if he was, I’m not Japanese nor black so it doesn’t effect my culture and history but I’m just stating what I looked up on and studied(yes studied, not browse the internet for a couple of min) and from what I gathered l, there isn’t enough proof to say he was.

That’s just my judgement and multiple historians

pwnmaster300060d ago

@Iamrealhooman
Cool I don’t care lmaoo.
It’s not suppose to be historically accurate.

I think you have me confused for someone who gives af about weither they have a black samurai. I honestly dgaf. I’m just saying what I gathered and learned. If you don’t agree and think he was irl then so be it, there isn’t a wrong answer as of right now.

Samurai in most, if not all, pop-culture context are historically inaccurate, including GoT. Your choice to suddenly care about historic accuracy when it comes to Yasuke is very telling. You don't care a bit about historic accuracy, or defending Japanese culture. You're just straight up racist, and you're not fooling anyone.

goken60d ago

Huh?
I believe no one here is claiming the importance of historic accuracy except for the makers of the game and the writers of this article.
No problem being a fictional game, it’s when people claim historical accuracy problems arise

Ghost ate Shadows lunch a long time ago. There is nothing that Shadows does better and that includes stealth, which is an AC staple. In fact, I predict Ghost will see a bump in sales and engagement along side the release of Shadows.

goken61d ago

I find the facial animations for the cut scenes in shadow is often hard to look at. I thought GOT was awesome.

I haven’t actually played shadows, so I can’t comment on game play.

DedicatedDark60d ago

Are you seriously suggesting Ghost has better stealth than Shadows? This is just nothing but blind fanboyism.

When are critics IE basicly and game site lies about this disaster of a game going to stop no one trusts iGN Gamespot ect. It is currently a 5.8 by users on metacritic users who are the true judge not some peerson on VG247 who gave it ' perfect score oh yes its PERFECT. They sold 2 million copies in 2 days then silence for days, we've all seen the peak steam numbers and their plummiting share prices since games release. All points to what every real review says looks great but adds NOTHING new or exciting to the tired AC formula. And to claim 5 ways this trash outshines GOT is a total lie and a joke. Thats why no one cares about "critic" reviews or opinions they sold out long ago. The true reviews are the users. Sites like this trash can't t go out of buisness fast enough.

Mindphyx7782260d ago (Edited 60d ago )

@atti not my problem you can't read or write and have the IQ of a rock

P_Bomb61d ago

Meta user reviews are just a war of attrition between zeros and tens.

Three companies keep showing their true faces and telling us who they are but for some weird reason we refuse to believe them. Even when everything they show just makes their greediness even stands out more

Keep messing with the consumers and keep being greedy. Keep telling your consumers to get comfortable now owning your games and we will. You only have few IP's that gamers care about anyways so

"soon enough tencent will buy you out. They already own 49%. Keep deleting games from gamers libraries and getting sued over it instead of making offline play possible for the crew" it's sad that I believe in 10 cents more than UBI because atleast tencent knows how to run a proper business

These executives can taking millions and bonuses and stock options yet they fire those actually making the games without thinking twice. Gaming has become so greedy that their own greed will be their downfall. Companies like Capcom have realized making good quality games and treat gamers with respect

AC series started with a soul but now it's just a soulless empty option world with icons filling the game map. They make their own games so grindy so that they can see the XP boosters to even the odds. As a gamer in my 40's all I want to know is when did gaming just stop being about Fun and all about greed. Double XP weekends selling cosmetics and dances. I use to be a big sports game guy when I was in my 20's the other day I wanted to play NBA 2k and after doing some deep research I realized the best NBA game was 2k17 and NBA 2k25 at $9.79 I couldn't pull the trigger on that 2k25 for how egregious the micro transactions were. So much of the fun is behind a pay wall

dveio10d ago

True words, buddy.

Q: "So how many units did Shadows sell?"

Ubisoft: "Well, look, we ... it's been a busy week."

neutralgamer199210d ago

For over a decade, the price of video games remained steady. We paid $50, then $60 for full, content-rich experiences. Developers found creative ways to deliver incredible games without charging more. From the PS2 era through the PS4/Xbox One, pricing consistency gave players a sense of value and trust.

But then came the jump to $70 during the PS5 and Xbox Series X launches—justified by "rising development costs." And now, barely four years later, we’re seeing $80 price tags becoming more common for standard editions. At this pace, by the time the next generation of consoles launches around 2027, $90 games could be the norm. And with a behemoth like GTA 6 on the horizon, a $99.99 base price wouldn’t be shocking at all.

Yet we’ve also seen proof that this kind of pricing isn’t necessary for success. Look at the recent launches of Expedition 33 and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. Both released at $49.99 and have been met with strong sales and positive reception. These games show that there’s still plenty of room for high-quality, mid-budget (AA) titles that offer great value—and gamers are more than willing to support them at fair prices.

But here’s the problem: the big publishers don’t care. If we as consumers keep paying for deluxe editions, early access, and overpriced base games, they’ll keep pushing the limits. They’re not going to back down unless we speak with our wallets—because that’s the only language they listen to. If they see record sales, they’ll take it as validation.

It’s frustrating when these same companies report record-breaking revenue and profits—yet still complain about tariffs, still find excuses to raise prices, and still hand out bigger bonuses to their CEOs. If they’re doing so well financially, why are they passing more of the burden onto players?

It’s because gaming has become the second biggest entertainment market in the world. And with that comes attention from hedge funds, investors, and boardrooms focused on short-term profit, not long-term player trust. To them, your passion is just a revenue stream. They care about quarterly numbers, not the health of the industry or the joy of the experience.

And unless we—as players—take a stand, the greed won’t stop. The monetization will grow, the price hikes will continue, and the soul of gaming will keep slipping away. The choice is ours. We can either keep paying more for less, or we can push back. One purchase—or one refusal to purchase—at a time

dveio10d ago

"And unless we—as players—take a stand, the greed won’t stop."

And that's the tough part about it.

Look at those annual figures showing billions and billions of money being spent on the most ridiculous add-ons, DLCs, pre-release accesses, even pre-orders, digital deluxe crap, etc.

I mean - we've stood together at times. I don't say it didn't happen before.

But within all of our communities there's so much passive aggressive defensiveness.

Look at the debates regarding physical vs digital.

Publishers can't keep a straight face reading our discussions in which many people abandon physical.

Playing straight into the cards of publishers out there.

neutralgamer19929d ago (Edited 9d ago )

Like I said gamers are the biggest issue with gaming. We may united on a issue but as soon as our favorite gaming franchise gets a release we will support it. If there any doubt Mario kart will be one of the best selling games on switch 2?

Things we use to unlock by simply playing a game has not be sold to us as extra content

Rainbowcookie9d ago

I think people arebgetting tired of the formula. We see it in sales. People just want fun again.

neutralgamer19929d ago

I just want games to be fun and not geindy and full of micro transactions

anast9d ago

Even the $130 ultimate editions of UBI games are only a bit less grindy and they still beg people to buy helix coins throughout the whole experience.

It's a travesty what 2K did to NBA 2K.

neutralgamer19929d ago

It really is because NBA 2K is simply unplayable without spending money and you can't even respec for a new my player you are required to spend again

Chocoburger9d ago

Ubishit burned so many bridges with fans, releasing filler dreck that was purposefully designed to push you towards micro-trash-actions. It didn't have to be this way, they could have respected us players more, instead of making players waste countless hours of their life just to see stupid "experience points and resources numbers go up" and attempt to profit off us in such a disrespectful way. I stopped supporting them a long time ago. Keep burning bridges, and keep burning your company from within.

S2Killinit9d ago

Which UBI games did that? Im legit asking.

Chocoburger8d ago (Edited 8d ago )

Any game (be it Ubisoft or any other company) with an unnecessary shoe-horned in experience points system, endless resources collection, and a micro-trash-action store that sells you boosters that alleviate the grind.

They do it on purpose to nudge players towards spending more money, and its something I refuse to support. Nearly all modern Ubisoft games have experience points and skill trees these days, not because it makes the games better, but because it can potentially make them more money by exhausting people into giving in and buying boosters.

Assassin's Creed, Ghost Recon and more series are offenders of this game design blight.

S2Killinit8d ago

I see. And I agree. I dont like these trends either. Although I dont remember AC having paid upgrades (given that my last one was black flag)
