Anthem (PS4) Review | GamePitt

Nicola writes: Ever since the original Destiny, I have been looking for another game that offered the same great co-op experience and addictive gameplay. So far The Division and Elder Scrolls Online hasn’t really done the job of reuniting all my friends into one game, will Anthem be the one that succeeds?

So Rage 2 is looking really good right now.

C-H-E-F2258d ago (Edited 2258d ago )

lOl, I'm glad i played the beta on this game because if i had bought this i would've been mad plus Apex Legends came out at the right time. I'll be getting The Division 2 instead for sure. This review score is the highest i've seen for this game as well... interesting I wonder what they rate other games that are sooo barebones.

rob-GP2258d ago

Our reviewer is a massive Destiny fan, she had a great time playing Anthem. For her, she enjoyed playing it solo with random people for the missions as it means she could spent more time exploring and interacting with the characters, rather than having to skip over things to progress the story at the speed of everyone else.

We know the roadmap for the game and they have content coming regularly. As long as they deliver and the content arrives on time and adds more to the game, I don’t see what’s so bad about it? The first Destiny followed the same process and it took a few updates of content to really appeal and enhance the endgame content.

The demo was basically that, a cut back demo. Judging a game based on a tiny amount of content or reviewing the game based on pre-patched early copies is very silly. That’s why we weren’t given a review copy until the main patch had gone out.

Rob-GP

The game was flat, the story was flat, voice actors boring, the characters in that beautiful world was flat, missions flat, loot system not robust, armor system non-existent, the game is in worst shape than Destiny 1 was at launch AND they use too many things from Destiny to make this game feel like it's a new game YES it is gorgeous but that's it nothing excited me about the game what so ever. And that goes to show from plenty of other reviewers that has played the full version of the game. They literally said exactly what i said above, in their FULL GAME REVIEW and i played ONLY the Beta. So yes, I can speak on what i felt about the game because it is backed by other reviewers (all other reviewers except this one).

If she enjoys it wonderful, as I said before I wonder what other widely low rated games (60 in metacritic currently) has higher ratings...

ALSO, as a reviewer you can't review a game on content that not in the game lol, knowing the roadmap of the game and judging the game on content that has not been released is beyond reaching to give a game a better score.

But hey if this how you want your website reputation to be do you buddy.

rob-GP2257d ago

Fair enough - I get it - if you don't like a game then nobody can, right... And again, you're casting your judgement on playing the Beta and reading other peoples reviews rather than playing the final product yourself... As I said, EA gave us the game the day the patch went live, that was around 2 days after the main sites put up their reviews, reviews based on previous versions.

Was the game dramatically changed? Probably not (I've not played it), but the whole point of a beta and EA waiting until the patch was out before issuing out the majority of review codes, kinda shows some things were changed.

Anyway, doesn't really matter what you think in regards to our reviewer's opinion :) If you have a different one then fair enough, just understand that some people like different things - not everyone follows what everyone else says because it's the popular thing to do...

C-H-E-F2256d ago (Edited 2256d ago )

@rob-gp

What EA told us vs what the sold us:

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Please stop bending over for EA

And i didn't say that because i didn't like the game no-one should I said:

"interesting I wonder what they rate other games that are sooo barebones."

TO EACH THEIR OWN.. IDGAF who likes this game, just shows the type of person they are especially if they are giving it high ratings when we all know theres more games that are FREE that offer better gameplay immersion and mechanics.

You all in your feelings inferring crap that I never said, lmao then say it doesn't matter if i agree, YOUR OPINION don't matter neither does mine that's why it's called an opinion people don't have to agree. Stop being a EA lap dog and REALLY be a gamer and a journalist, do your job and make sure your website is reputable and showcases QUALITY. As a journalist ya'll need to uphold yourselves to higher standards this is by all means trying to get in EA good graces because you got a patch early? the game early? lmao tf selling your soul for a game, how pathetic.

rob-GP2256d ago

"What EA told us vs what the sold us: " - you do know the difference between a vertical slice promotional piece of footage and the final product don't you? Name ten games which look or play better, or exactly the same, as their E3 announcements... You'll find it hard to find any because E3 is a stage to show off a product that isn't finished, a product which is still in development and hasn't had compromises based on the direction the game goes in.

But, if you believe every single video you ever see for every single game, you must be a very upset person who gets annoyed with every game that comes out. For example., if you believe MS showed off Halo and Gears of War actual in-game footage at E3, you're going to be upset once the final build is released in 2019/20...

Anyway, nobody has sold their soul or turned to the dark side, people have opinions, my reviewer and all her mates (who played Destiny 1 for about 2-3 years straight with no other games being played in between), are all playing Anthem at the moment - why? Because they're enjoying it and having fun. Just because you played a Beta and read a few reviews from people based on pre-release and pre-patch editions doesn't mean you get to factually state how other people can think about a game.

Anyway, you're boring me now as you're going round and round in circles with your same lame comments. If you don't agree with me or my reviewers then fair enough, go live in your bubble where people can only like the games you like and everyone plays Fortnite and Apex (as I imagine you do, based upon your comments). I'd rather that than you accuse us of being biased or a 'lap dog'.

Oh, one last thing, and I quote... "YOUR OPINION don't matter neither does mine that's why it's called an opinion people don't have to agree.".."Stop being a EA lap dog and REALLY be a gamer and a journalist"

So, opinions don't matter as people don't have to agree; immediately followed by you telling us our opinion is factually wrong, and you're correct. Ever heard of contradiction? Again, go about your business, I don't really care what you have to say - if you don't agree with us then fair enough, nobody is asking you to. But don't start accusing us of stupid things which aren't correct just because someone likes different things to you.

Mark Darrah: stop harassing devs because you don't know what caused "the thing that you're mad at"

Former BioWare executive Mark Darrah says "be a human being, have some empathy."
Fans don't know who is actually to blame.
Darrah throws up a hypothetical that someone might not like how an actor delivered a line. Sure, it could well be down to the actor, but it also might be down to who was directing them, how the writer asked their work to be delivered, or maybe that was the only take they got.

This line from the video though

"Maybe the CEO of the entire company really wanted his nephew to be hired as a script consultant and this guy with literally zero experience was coming in and pushing for mandatory changes"

Like others have said that seems far too specific to just be an example...

Eonjay74d ago

Exactly. And the crazy part about this is that the people there just doing their job and trying to make a living are the one's getting hurt and losing their jobs. I am also not a fan of targeting specific individuals. Its poor form. These are video games.

RiseNShine74d ago

If only there was a single problem with this game, it was a train wreck waiting to crash and burn.

thorstein74d ago (Edited 74d ago )

As usual, common sense falls on deaf ears. I mean, he thinks this article is about Dragon Age Veilguard. He rejects logic and evidence.

What possible logic or evidence can you provide to convince him otherwise.

Notellin73d ago

The community has spoken and would like for you to stop instead.

Armaggedon73d ago (Edited 73d ago )

@Thorstein

Cant expect people to see reason now a days.

@Notellin
Sure. Go ahead and bury yourselves beneath your own ignorance.

This article isn't about that game.

Gamingsince198173d ago

Veilguard was complete trash though anyway.

Notellin73d ago

Then don't use it for the thumbnail. It's misleading on purpose to draw this reaction.

thorstein73d ago

Or...I don't know... read the article.

staticall74d ago

Personally, i think we should always blame and criticize the management (especially top management; like with EA - every screw up should be blamed on Andrew Wilson and his goons). They're the ones with the power, the ones who have the last say in the matter - whatever is the plot details, gameplay, microtransactions, budget and «It's ok that it's buggy and crashes constantly, release the game ASAP, we'll fix it later».

Harrasement is not ok in my book, although, nowadays, many people paint every type of criticism (whatever warranted or not) as harrasement. Which is a very narrowminded and waters down actual harrasement problems. But, i guess, it makes it easier to ignore everything bad you see aimed towards yourself.

I would also like to add, that this topic is a double-edged sword, some developers are being mean to their customers, calling them names or any sort of -isms, that happens. In that case, don't be surprised, that, when you're «firing shots», customers are «shooting back» at you.

SimpleDad74d ago

We do want better games, and we get them by criticizing bad ones.

Eonjay74d ago

No you don't. Everything is criticized by somebody these days. By that logic everything is bad. Thats just more fuel for the echo chamber. The way you get games you want is by supporting the types of games you want by buying them. You want more games like Astrobot? Buy Astrobot. Recommend it to others. Its not about bashing what you don't like. its about supporting what you do like. Money talks.

SimpleDad74d ago

Absolutely, I buy my games cause subscriptions are also part of the problem. I don't criticize myself personally, but by observing criticism by others, I avoid purchasing games with problems.

TheColbertinator74d ago

No we don't. FIFA and Madden get criticized every year and the games get worse and more overpriced.

Christopher74d ago

Lack of profit is the only way to do it, but people are fine buying shit games every day, just not the shit games we talk about regularly here. We distract ourselves with this stupid 'social mirage' issue and the corporations get to keep doing less and less but selling it for more and more.

Armaggedon74d ago

“Better game” with big air quotes. What you like more, makes more sense.

Gamingsince198173d ago

Says the only guy in the world that likes vanguard, I bet you like avowed aswell huh

Empathy has no value when it comes to killing a franchise loved by thousands.

Eonjay74d ago

Empathy always has value when dealing with other human beings. This includes empathy towards the fans who feel scorned and the devs who worked their asses off.

A nice piece of proof-as if anymore was needed-that a game isn't automatically a success if it sells "millions of copies."

RiseNShine502d ago

I don't know if it's still possible, but if it still works, PLAY IT. It's a fantastic RPG on it's own, incredible graphics and story, well worth the Bioware name, i don't know how bad it was on release, but when i played years later it was a great single player RPG well worth playing.

ChasterMies502d ago

This a good example of why you should be hesitant to buy a game at launch.

--Onilink--502d ago

Its has been on sale multiple times for like $2-3… and even when not that aggressively dropped, it is usually in the under $10 category of any sale

BlackCountryBob502d ago

That’s good, but also worth pointing out that after maybe 3 months on sale, this game was selling for about a tenner. Reminds me a bit of Days Gone, good sales overall but only after huge discounts so unlikely to make large profit

What a shitty f***** list! Most of the games on it were great fun. Bullshit list.

chantii_mmohaven845d ago

yep this is truly a b*tthurt list :/

MadLad845d ago

I think the only one I agreed on was Anthem, and even that isn't horrendous.

Knushwood Butt846d ago

Anthem; I'd forgotten that game existed. I remember thinking the trailer was BS though; turns out I was right.

Cueil844d ago

the game wasn't bad though

RavenWolfx845d ago

"Worst big budget games" and immediately lists Genshin Impact, a game that has $4 billion in revenue.

blackblades845d ago

$3 billion and counting along with alot of users. I disagree with that being on the list. This list is just a person opinion without merit

monkey602845d ago

I havent played Genshin Impact and Mafia 3 was alright. The rest though I kind of agree with.
I loved the 1st Kane and Lynch and I could not understand how the 2nd game was as bad as it was.
