New Anthem Gameplay and Info from BioWare Are All About Loot

Today BioWare hosted a livestream about its upcoming online action RPG Anthem, focusing on loot and equipment.

The Demo was interesting.. Don't think they are going to be able to make an amazing game thou.. Flying was fun, rest of the game was a little generic and nothing special, had way more fun playing TitanFall so I don't really have high hopes for this one...

I would indeed say wait for reviews before you buy this one... / because the beta got boring quick..

Alpha, not beta. And it was extremely limited. Definitely wait for reviews for any game but what was available in the Alpha isn’t enough to judge anything other than combat and flying, both of which I thought were great

You can't really call it an Alpha test this close to release though. That would imply that only basics are ready, whereas I'm guessing that most of the game is done, and they're only looking for tweak optimization :)

Jesus Christ. This is why noobs should not participate in tests like this and why developers should have a stricter control on who get's accepted to help test.

First off. All alpha,beta and server stress tests are different. In this case there was a older but stable Alpha client with more or less everything removed. A client that's was within acceptable parameters for a large server stress test. One that was open to a larger use base to gather data that can be applied to the demo client and the final gold client.

You ask if I think this was an alpha? Are you for real?

Exactly, when developers make games they have several different builds and stages of development. Alphas are mean't be highly restricted considering they are using a a older build. More than half the content missing and are mainly stress testing things right now and arent so much focusing on the games features right off hand.

It is EA...of course wait for reviews, and embargoes to hit. I will NEVER buy any of their games prior to real reviews hitting the street. Same for Bugthesda titles.

Later they will have beta test.
Near the release they are going to release Demo.

I agree with you but I actually hated the flying. It felt like "hey this is our main feature, use it. USE IT!"

Felt so forced in a gameplay mechanic. I managed to get through 45mins in the alpha and quit the game. I really doubt I'd bother with this when it releases.
From the E3 footage it looked like it'll be a tactic shooter, sneak up and take something down with bombs and other cool things.
This played like a 3rd person view destiny game.

Game felt too fast paced that it ruins the looks of the game. Would've liked it to be slower like gears or war. Felt like I was rushing through content and couldn't enjoy the scenery as I flew by.

Finally a comment worth responding too.... (All the comments before seems like they were left by a 5 year-old, it's Alpha, no beta, Who cares what does that have to do with the game / I have been in every Alpha/Beta of Battlefield and I've been in some of Call of duties, it's still the same game - The game does not change from Alpha to Beta, just the polish of the game, it's still the same game, it's still a shooter you still do the same things you were doing in the Alpha or Beta, it does not suddenly turn into a horse riding game or something totally different from the Alpha, so stop it, just stop with the stupid comments... it's still the same game) Sure it can be refined and things will get fixed but those who played it have an idea what the game will be like... Period. -Early build late build, same game.... it's not suddenly going to be about racing cars, same dam game... / Sorry just had to address the nonsense for a second.

And Kosic yes, I agree with you, I was trying to give it credit for anything I could find, flying while it did feel like here use this, it was still better then I thought it was going to be, because I guess I was expecting more restriction, so was really surprised that it felt more like being in the Iron-Man suit and being iron-man, which I thought was cool / instead of restricted like riding the bike in Destiny, where it feels more on a set path of and has a set height and stuff, so I thought that was really it's best aspect since height and path felt more free.. Shooting to me was really bad / but that could get cleaned up at-least and be refined and might be much better by time of release. / But yeah I too felt it was more like forced game-play.

I love your idea of a more tactic shooter, that actually would have been really cool if the game was more like that, I would have loved that. -But yeah I agree with everything you said, slower pace would be awesome... We will have to wait and see what will really get changed at this point which I doubt will be anything... It takes way too long to make real changes to a game, so there will only be slight adjustments, like polish, not much more then that... Game is coming out February 22, 2019 I believe

I think what happened with Titanfall 2 was they made it cod with robots. Titanfall 1 was awesome and it took skill. I was so excited to buy Titanfall 2 until I played the beta for multiplayer and it was a totally different game from the first. I don't believe it had anything to do with the release date. The story was cool though

Gameplay looks good from the previews and same with customization (as long as they don't lock everything behind paywalls), curious about amount of dungeons / raids /end game content and story.

The game has full blown crafting and and heavy customization so you can tailor your style and how you want to play. Bioware essentially took their expertise of their RPG character progression and customization from the Mass Effect series and brought everything over to Anthem.

You see this looks like a good fun game to play. But I just can't support it. I hate everything this game stands for. It's pretty much Destiny. They made this and killed Mass Effect. They say theres a story but let's be honest. It probably has about as much story as destiny. I just can't support this.

When he picked up that red planet material is looked like a red skinned version of the EDZ plant material from Destiny. It is so much like Destiny but just doesn't look as fun with the shooting mechanics. I wish they didn't murder Mass Effect.

Looks nowhere near as good as initial reveal. Where is the terrain deformation? Seems it has taken a MAJOR hit to graphical fidelity compared with the E3 2017 reveal. Terrain and environments are clearly lower res, and appear washed out. Sparks for weapon fire and hits are dramatically reduced. The armor...everything...this looks like it is running on the Switch. Go rewatch that reveal and see for yourself.
