State of Decay 2 Is A Terrible Sequel

State of Decay 2 is not a bad game, but as a sequel to one of the best indie titles to come out during the last generation, it's downright terrible.

it did not take a rocket scientist to come to this conclusion, even before release it was clear that the second one is just more of the same without any real justification to exist. when people start ignoring sequels we may be upt to reviving this dead industry. due to limitations of human mindsets this is impossible though.

I think SoD2 is what the first game should have been. Better engine and less jenky. Seeing as I did not really play the first one but as a free test before SoD2 was released, I find SoD2 okay. But had I played the first game fully, I can see that the sequel probably doesn't offer a vastly different experience other than somewhat more polished.

Yeah i got SoD 1 around launch, and got a good 20 hours out of it. I found it impressive for a like 30 dollar XBLA game. So i was excited for where theyd go with this one.

Got SoD2 on gamepass and after a few hours i undownloaded it. Its the same game, with coop. And the coop is broken because each game only has one host.

More of the same isn't always a bad thing. I've played the 1st and the 2nd is much improved so it isn't a total failure in terms of a SoD game. It may not truely be considered a sequel but as it is, it's not a bad SoD game.

You can say SoD 2 was superior to the original but the sequel received much worse scores. SoD was a 78 while SoD 2 is a 67. According to critics the sequel is a bad game because it didn't innovate and because it ran horribly. A sequel shouldn't feel like an expansion.

There's nothing wrong with sequels in general. But they need to be worthwhile.

SoD 2 looked bad from the E3 reveal. The visuals and animations always appeared subpar, it just seemed like a budget game from the jump. I'm surprised MS didn't put more money into it and turn it into a AAA quality game. The original made money, this franchise had potential and could've taken the next step.

Tbh though, i think this is exactly what MS wanted and that's why they signed Undead after a 67 Metacritic. SoD 2 was probably dirt cheap to make, and it apparently sold well according to MS. So reviews be damned, if they can cheap out and make money then so be it.

Never played the first one, but I love the second one myself? Guess not playing the first really kind of kept 2 feeling new to me instead of just a slightly better game.

Lol if you don’t like the game don’t play it, State of decay 1 was terrible compared to two. In its own right, if you like State of decay 1 more than 2 who cares, go play the first one then and stop bitching.

Exactly what I did. Got the game with Game Pass on PC. Played a few hours and then uninstalled it. Just a bad game.

It feels like a generic resource management game but with a clunky user interface and.....zombies. Mostly, I just had a hard time caring about what was happening. I'm running around scavenging stuff to build up my base and finally I just decided I'm not having any fun. Simple as that.

State of decay 2 is great to me and huge step above the first. What did people expect from a sequel? I wish that in mp the would have let everyone roam free but I see why they didn't and it's nowhere near a problem. The game is not perfect but to call it terrible is going to fat.

i wholeheartedly agree. Once again overpromised and underdelivered. I loved the first game, this second one just didn't cut it. The one sided progression when co-op'ing, the lack of co-op fans really wanted. Its just all meh.

We wanted a co-op where we could survive and build together, actually build a community from the ground up.

Oh come on now that's too harsh. Like fiveby side sod2 is what sod1 should've been. It improved every mechanic and added features and a new location. It's more or the same but a bit improved. That's not necessarily a bad thing. I would like a AAA sod. Up the budget and add a campaign story with some scripted events and boom. All you need right there

It's hands down better than the first. It's basically sod1 more polished and a few months more developed. I enjoyed it, what were you expecting? It lived up to my expectations.
