Review: Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom - PS4 | Pure PlayStation

Pure PlayStation: It’s hard for me to believe that Ni No Kuni 2 is the successor to the White Witch when the latter is better in every single regard. A better story, better characters, better world design - just better everything. Even the feels were dimmered in Revenant Kingdom. There were only two times I barely felt something emotionally and I pondered about it longer than the game itself did. Before you ask, the only reasons I’m still hanging around after forty five hours of playtime are fun but simple gameplay, the kingdom creation feature, and simply being a Ni No Kuni fan. I have no doubt someone who doesn’t like what I just mentioned would have been lost long ago.

Yeah, they are on PC, but when one is available on one console and not the other, you will crap all over the game on a Microsoft console and reject any negative opinion about the Playstation game. I don't know why you are trying to deny all of this, your comment history proves all of my points.

I'm confident that you are one of those people that criticised IGN's review of Ni No Kuni 2 but then praised them for their review of God Of War.

I'm 10 hours in and so far I'm loving it. Love the characters, the pacing and the combat system.

The only thing I don't like is the "chibi" sections. It really feels like they were done to shorten the games development time.

Yeah I don't mind it as much on the map but they use the skirmish mini game far too often. I would have probably preferred defending my Kingdom with enemies approaching the front gate in waves and you fighting them off in a huge battle, just in a standard battle mode not the chibi ariel view way. You could have all your main characters with a few army members with you and let yourself build tower defences in between waves.

NNK2 probably doesn't have that heart-rending story of the first game, but it makes up for it in other things, such as addictive town building (which ties to the gameplay), straightforward battle system (if not a little too easy), Dreamers Doors, tainted monsters, and an overall charming presentation. For me, NNK2 is a deserving sequel--better even. NNK1 was a blast mind you; however, I thought the battle was clunky yet challenging and the main template for sidequests was too repetitive.

NNK1 had a bad combat system with pokemon clone influences. It was super simple. Everything they've done for the sequel is better and adds more complexity. As for the fights being too easy I think they get longer the farther you get in the game. Also, lets not pretend that NNK1 wasn't an easy game as well. Nobody complained about it but now that everything else is better in the sequel it stands out more.

I'd unfortunately have to agree. It's a 7 at best. It's not even a patch on the first. I absolutely fell in love with that game. Incredible piece of craftsmanship and artistry. This is a million miles away from that. It's Direction is weak, it's production is clumsy, it's story is average, it's way way too easy, it literally doesn't matter or what weapons or magic or skirmish teams are used. There's zero challenge so far and I'm a chapter 9 and struggling to feel like it's worth finishing and I've done all available side quests for the hell of it to this point and with millions in the bank and everything built-in the kingdom pretty much it's a real disappointment. Testament perhaps to Studio Ghibli influence over the first...

This also leads me to lose huge amount of trust in all those people that reviewed this as a 9 or 10. Absolutely baffled by these results and considering it was delayed it's probably a good job if it come out sooner I'm sure it would have been even worse
