Attention to detail is where this game exceeds all the rest.

mikeslemonade2573d ago

Yea this game looks better than Horizon. As I said before this game is already better than God of War 1 and 3. The competition is against 2.

bouzebbal2573d ago

Cory Barlog is a genius!

roadkillers2572d ago

@Mikes

The original is always the best ;)

The Wood2573d ago

1st party advantages. . . Maximise the hardware to the best of their ability at the time

rainslacker2572d ago

That's available to 3rd party as well....just most don't utilize it.

Sony doesn't hold back it's API's for 3rd party devs.

IamTylerDurden12572d ago (Edited 2572d ago )

I think it comes down to developer talent. Horizon, Uncharted 4, God of War. Sony clearly has the best looking games this gen even though Xbox technically has the better specs. All 3rd party devs have the same PS4/Pro hardware to work with. I just think having studios like Naughty Dog, Guerrilla, Sucker Punch, and Santa Monica is the big difference. Talent > specs.

Bastrad2572d ago (Edited 2572d ago )

The main advantage is concentrating on minimal platforms. The 3rd parties still have plenty of talent.

babadivad2573d ago

That's something that all Sony first party devs usually nail. The attention to detail is what really makes graphics shine. They all seem to have a really good eye for it. It's something that most Xbox exclusives often miss. Not always, but more often than not.

Emme2572d ago

Indeed. Gears4 looked great, Forza looked great, SoT hat great art direction and colours, but the detail is sparse. There was nothing groundbreaking with xbox exclusives, although I havent played Sunset Overdrive yet, or Ryse.

2572d ago
DarkVoyager2573d ago (Edited 2573d ago )

“Arguably The Best Looking Game of All Time“

Can’t believe this looks arguably better than Uncharted 4 and Horizon: Zero Dawn. Sony exclusives literally competing with each other.

Amazing.

darthv722573d ago (Edited 2573d ago )

The only one I can think of to surpass this would be TLoU2, unless that ends up being a PS5 game.

rainslacker2572d ago

I had a chance to see the game running directly on a PS4P a few days ago, and I can say that it does look better than both of those games. Although it's not always easy to see, but when it is, its quite apparent.

To tell the truth,it actually looks better than any PC game I've seen. Maybe not in the visual fidelity department of some games which take advantage of high end hardware, but certainly in overall appearance and quality. The places were it may come up lacking are not highlighted as other things are used to focus the players attention on the good stuff it has to show.

people that play it are going to be in for a visual treat.

seanpitt232573d ago (Edited 2573d ago )

This is a type of game that the xbox needs but sadly hasn't.

Sony are on fire and this is just the beginning.

Kavorklestein2572d ago

It's more like the middle-ish end.
Next gen is like 2-3 years away

IamTylerDurden12572d ago

Sea of Thieves was hyped to be Microsoft's next big thing, but sadly it was not the game people hoped for. State of Decay comes out relatively soon but that isn't a AAA game. Crackdown 3 suppsedly is slated for later this year but it really isn't a visual showcase nor will it likely have a compelling story. It received so much criticism at Comic Con Microsoft decided to delay it again.

Microsoft is in desperate need of a Bloodborne, Uncharted 4, Horizon Zero Dawn, or God of War but unless they have a 3rd party working on something big or a secret studio i just don't see it coming any time soon.

Ceaser98573612572d ago (Edited 2572d ago )

The performance issues on 4k 30fps where frame rates drops will be fixed with a patch soon Usually happens with almost all games at launch

Nu2572d ago (Edited 2572d ago )

I saw a comparison between the e3 footage and the final release and the hair and fur moving with the wind immediately stood out to me. I hate when certain animations or effects have to be altered

IamTylerDurden12572d ago (Edited 2572d ago )

Yesterday 343 and others were telling me how Far Cry 5, AC Origins, The Witcher 3, Hellblade, and Gears 4 were better looking and more technically impressive than Horizon, God of War, and Uncharted 4. Where are all the people who agreed now..?

Neonridr2573d ago

With titles like Uncharted 4 and Horizon Zero Dawn this is saying something..

S2Killinit2573d ago

That what i would expect from Sony Santa Monica.

Cyborgg2573d ago (Edited 2573d ago )

The best looking game on a console!!! It's all because of the developers.

fdkenzo2573d ago

Dude, on PC you don’t find a game that mach the visual quality of Uncharted 4. If wee look at GOW....we can say that is the beat looking game to date.
Again, i talk about visual graphics, not fps or resolution....in that terms PC is the best.

Cyborgg2573d ago (Edited 2573d ago )

Dude I said console 🤔 I haven't seen anything that looks better than GOW and Horizon on a console yet

fdkenzo2573d ago (Edited 2573d ago )

The best looking game on any platform ! You wont find anithing that mach that visual graphics (animation, atention to detail, best art, etc) like GOW, Horizon or U4 ...on PC.

Imalwaysright2573d ago

Yes you do and well beyond anything on consoles.

thekhurg2573d ago

I play all my multiplats on PC, and to me, Witcher 3 maxed out looks better than Uncharted 4.

But it's just my opinion.

kevnb2573d ago

Many games look better than this on pc, but who cAres?

AKS2572d ago

"Dude, on PC you don’t find a game that mach the visual quality of Uncharted 4."

Why do you say stuff like this?

https://steamuserimages-a.a...

At max 2160p, which admittedly is too demanding for 60 fps on my PC with certain settings (for example, AA tends to be a frame assassin at high resolutions and not really necessary to look good). I just cranked everything to max to demonstrate how it can look.

rainslacker2572d ago

Better can be tricky, because it depends on if you mean visual fidelity, or overall looks. The two aren't always one in the same. Attention to detail in the art and environment can make a image that isn't as crisp or as high a texture quality seem much more than it actually is.

Art direction is a huge part of what makes something look good, and while there are many PC games which do look outstanding when the time is taken to make it so, they often do lack a lot of the attention to detail that you see from Sony's first party. There are a few stand out games on PC, but even with those, you tend to have to have a rather decent GPU to be able to say that it's better.

IamTylerDurden12572d ago (Edited 2572d ago )

Resolution produces a crisper image, but things like poly count, lighting, original textures, and artistic composition are much more important. The Order is hardly even 1080p but the visuals are absolutely stunning and the game is more graphically impressive than 95% of the games that run 4K.

AKS2572d ago

Are all +20 disagreers seriously claiming Assassin's Creed: Origins at 2160p with MAX settings can't even match (not even surpass, just match; look at the statement I quoted) the visual quality of Uncharted 4? This is the most fanboyish nonsense I've seen in quite awhile. Even more hilarious, I was labeled a Sony fanboy here on N4G just a few weeks ago. This site is just pathetic.

@thekhurg

"I play all my multiplats on PC, and to me, Witcher 3 maxed out looks better than Uncharted 4."

Yeah, I'm gonna have to agree with that.

crazyCoconuts2573d ago

I'm playing W3 on PC now...I think facial work on both UC4 and HZD top W3. And lighting on HZD might also be better. No denying that W3 at uncompromised 4K looks sharper though.

Muigi2573d ago

But what about HZD which looks better than U4?

xenz2573d ago

I wonder, what game do you think looks better graphically than God of War?

AKS2572d ago

Pointless to speculate without seeing it in person. I've played Horizon for a couple of hundred hours at home on a Pro and OLED. I'm not going to compare that to a compressed video of God of War. I expect Horizon to be its primary competition. I'd be surprised if it had HDR more impressive than GT Sport. But maybe overall it looks the best of any Pro game, which I think is very possible. I guess I'll see for myself in a week.

Imalwaysright2572d ago (Edited 2572d ago )

Not just better. Far better like this https://www.youtube.com/wat... This shows what PC gaming is capable off when consoles aren't dragging PC down.

frostypants2572d ago (Edited 2572d ago )

I have a good PC and a PS4. This looks better than anything on PC. Sure, PC (well some PCs, anyway) is capable of looking better...but no one is making such games. Unfortunately. Sony's first party studios are next level.

BenRC012572d ago

No one is putting that amount of love into pc games. Whacking up the resolution and fps does not make a beautiful game. Pc gaming will always be hindered by the low end.

bluefox7552572d ago

What game on pc looks better? Higher resolution doesn't mean better visuals.

yea, its also mentioned in the documentary they did about it.

isarai19d ago

Ye, it just wasn't up to their standards, nothing wrong with that imo

Goodguy0119d ago

And it became one of my most favorite games of all time and I still like it more than the sequel.

goken19d ago

Well if a game/movie/project needs fixing, especially something with the legacy that god of war does. Delay and fix it, don’t ruin the legacy by releasing crap.

Babadook718d ago

Way to go.

Like Miyamoto famously said.

“A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad.”

Where's the remaster/port of the Greek Saga?

micdagoat1934d ago

On PS3? they "remaster" games that are barely 5 years old. We can't even play the ones from PS3 natively right now on a PS5

micdagoat1934d ago

Sony has been so quiet about that its annoying. I have no idea why they wouldn't

spicelicka34d ago

As much as I love the new God of war saga, I really miss the scale and epic set pieces of the OG games :/

SonyStyled34d ago

Thank you Mr. Jaffe. Few franchises stay relevant for 20 years. Thank you Stig, and Corey too

I feel any more adventures in Greece would just feel forced in, even Ascension felt shoehorned in when it released.

I think the only story they could really do is his journey North after the end of GoW 3, how he survived and in the end how he met Faye.

Cacabunga36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

Ascension is one of the most underrated titles and technically very impressive, i wish they made a remaster of it.
Imo there is s lot to tell still if they do it right. The chain of Olympus episode proved that also

I can’t wait for a side story going back to the roots.

Michiel198935d ago

the multiplayer of that game was actually surprisingly fun, although a bit undercooked since there wasn't much to play for, for a longer period but the gameplay itself was actually kinda cool.

xHeavYx35d ago

I'm gonna be honest, while I do like the newer games, I miss the level of aggression and the giant bosses from the original games. Yeah Kratos evolved and all that, and that's great, but I'd love a spinoff series where they go back to what made the original games so great.

spicelicka35d ago

Ascension is 12 years and 2 generations old. I don't see how anyone wouldn't want to see a current-gen GOW experience in Greek mythology. The only condition would be that they do it in with the classic style of the original games, with a pissed as sociopathic Kratos, epic set pieces and enormous bosses. Can't imagine how crazy a Poseidon type fight would look on PS5.

-Foxtrot35d ago

It doesn’t matter how long it's been...my point is they've told so many stories that adding any more just sounds like "OH AND ONE MORE THING..."

Vits36d ago

I don't trust the current developer to do anything with the Greek God of War. Hopefully, this is more of a spinoff, perhaps a third-party perspective on the events of that saga or something else entirely unrelated.

pwnmaster300036d ago

What’s wrong with the current devs? They killed it with the new ones.
Not calling you out, honestly just curious what’s your take.

Vits36d ago

Nothing is wrong with the current devs when it comes to the current GoW and Kratos. But the issue is that now there are three different characters named Kratos. The first is the original—angry, unreasonable, but also tragic. He had a mission and a clear purpose. Then there’s the new Kratos, who’s older and wiser, but honestly, he feels more like a completely different character than an evolution of the original. And then there’s the flanderized version of the original we see through Valhalla, which is basically there so the devs can say, 'See? Look how much Kratos has grown! Look how terrible he was and how much deeper ours is.'

That’s the fear with the new Greek Saga game from those devs. Instead of the original Kratos, we’d likely get this new take on the older version of him, a character seen through the lens of the current Kratos and, by extension, the current devs. Basically, it’s a disservice to the original series.

So, if it’s true that we’ll be getting a new game set in that era, I hope it’s either something unrelated to the original series or far enough removed to be easy to ignore. Or, at the very least, from devs who want to add to the original mythos rather than those who time and time again try to distance themselves from it.

Eonjay35d ago

@Vits

I totally disagree. The new Kratos would not be who he is now if not for his former self. Character development is not a bad thing. You say 'Then there’s the new Kratos, who’s older and wiser, but honestly, he feels more like a completely different character than an evolution of the original'...you underestimate people's abilty to mature and change. You don't seem to understand that the new series was a second chance for Kratos and he took it. There is nothing unusual or specal about having the capacity to learn and grow. I have grown and changed since I joined N4G back in 2013. How would it be possible for someone to not change over a millennia? That doesn't make sense and the idea that this is a padantic jab at the original fan base is mindblowingly immature and basic.

This idea that gamers are a bunch of basic unchanging protectionists drunk on our nostalgia of former glory is childish and incorrect. GOW 3 is one of my favoirte games of all time and that does not stop me from enjoying the new games. I quite thankful that they gave us something different to enjoy.

neutralgamer199235d ago (Edited 35d ago )

God of war was awesome need more boss fights but ragnork just felt rushed especially the last 25%. You hear so much of what will happen only for it to happen in the background. The last 25% just needed more development time and there felt like quite a lot of cut content. It went from a trilogy to 2 games so just imagine how much had to be cut

You are building go this event that everyone talks about and end of times is coming and I just wish Kratos was more involved in it's outcome.

35d ago
35d ago
35d ago
Vits34d ago

@Eonjay

No, I perfectly understand that. But if you actually followed your own advice and stopped being the childish fanboy you always portray yourself as, you would have seen that I clearly said there is absolutely nothing wrong with the character in the context of the new series. Try reading instead of just reacting.

And you're really out here comparing yourself to the character? Come on. You have not grown at all. You have always been this little fanboy who runs to defend a console or series you claim to like. Because let's be real, someone as terminally online as you probably does not even play anything. The second it gets "attacked," you jump in like it is your life’s mission. But yeah, the people with actual opinions are the immature ones. Sure.

And of course, GoW 3 is a "favorite" of yours. Because that totally adds something to the conversation. Just like saying "gamers don’t like change." Try actually paying attention to what you read. The issue is not change. The issue is context and how it is portrayed. But I get it, that is probably too much to grasp when your whole personality is just defending a console brand for no reason.

Yes but only if they're good. We don't need to see more classic franchises ruined by sub par developers.
