This standalone adventure succeeds on the strength of its characters and writing.
A 86 on metacritic so far
Honestly i was expecting a score around 8/10 bc honestly drake's charisma also sets the uncharted series up there, imo its hard to surpass a lovable character as this one.
Your expectations have been exceeded by the 50+ reviews that have scored the game between 8-10. Well unless IGN is the only outlet that counts for you.
No you are correct, but it just seems weird seeing an uncharted game getting a 7/10 from anywhere
I wonder if this would have got a higher score if it was a guy main character? Is IGN bias huh?
@Lonnie18, it's not the gender, it's just that these characters are less interesting. Imagine if they did a Tomb Raider game featuring...hell, I dunno...some dude named Clyde. It might still be fun but the story would miss the protagonist that made it famous. Or, a REAL example: look at "The Bourne Legacy"...easily the worst Bourne film, because no Matt Damon.
Yea the Lost Legacy overall is getting great reviews. 85 Metacritic, higher than Gears 4.
I always thought Chloe was a pretty likable character.
Someone just finally gave an honest score to a naughty dog game and didn't inflate the score based on fanboyism. All their stuff is good but not great.
The Problem with this review is that they treat it like it's a NEW GAME when it's just an expansion, like seriously how can you complain about an Expansion being like the game its expanded from -__-
"A 86 on metacritic so far" Yah. I saw that too. Guess IGN is pretty hard up for clicks these days.
ya Septic ... Uncharted fans will like Lost Legacy and its doing well so far... Hope xbox games does well too so that i could say the same and congratulate :) and too all the xbox fan boys here... may be we playstation fans are use to seeing scores above 85 or so... Something Xbox games haven't seen for quite sometime now... So i understand why some Playstation fans aint okay with below 8 score...
7.5 Too much awesome
The review is barely a page long - Marty Sliva has been down on Uncharted since the 4th entry.
I wasn't the biggest fan of UC4 either so if this follows the same path I'll skip it.
Is marty that ugly guy at beyond? Damn what a ugly taste
It's time Naughty Dog completely abandons Uncharted imo. The gameplay's been the exact same since the first Uncharted and sure it's smoother in each installment but gamers are starting to get fed up with it and the lower scores here prove it. You can't make action/adventure games with the same gameplay for around 10 years unless it's a franchise that's based on pure gameplay like Mario or Gran Turismo or the differences and universe are big enough like MGS. What about adding some creative weapons not just stupid guns, adding mythical enemies, having locals for a big part of the game and not a few minutes, better stealth and well an intelligent protagonist who's not Rambo and cocky...
It sounds like you’ve never been a fan of the Uncharted franchise with some of your points. There is an obvious difference between Uncharted 1 and Uncharted 4 in the gameplay. They fleshed it out a lot more and did open up levels for a little bit more exploration within the linear format. What does “pure gameplay” even mean? Someone could argue Gran Turismo is the exact same game every year, but it’s not. It just is iterative and adds to it with each entry. Same with Uncharted. However, I do agree that Naughty Dog should pursue other franchises at this point. Which they are already doing with TLOU 2 and closing the book of Nathan Drake.
This is an expansion. After this, they will focus on TLOU Part 2.
They already are working on TLoU 2.
Its time ND abandon Uncharted after just releasing their probable last Uncharted game? No shit.
Oh wow I feel stupid, well kudos to Naughty Dog for understanding when enough is enough also Fromsoftware comes to mind. And I'm not saying Uncharted 4 is bad, to me it's easily the best and a pretty good game but the formula got tiring well atleast for me.
Sales of Uncharted 4 suggest at least a few people still enjoy the series...
I have still invested more time in Uncharted than say Gears if War, if there an argument for the same formula and the same shite over and over then Gears of War is that franchise. Literally no characters in that game stand and the storyline is gobshite.
Ridiculous comment, Lost Legacy has been sitting at 85 and 86 on Metacritic out of 50+ reviews. It's rated higher than Gears 4 which also "is basically the same gameplay wise with every installment. Tbh each subsequent Uncharted game has added and refined things anyway. Look at Uncharted 4 and Uncharted 1, Uncharted 4 has large open levels and utilizes a grappling hook, driving, and more stealth options. The tone of the game has also changed and is much more serious and impactful. Honestly, expansions/DLC rarely review as high as the main game whether it's Nioh, Borderlands, The Last of Us, Dishonored ect. To be mid to high 80's Metacritic is actually quite good, especially considering this wasn't directly worked on by Neil and Bruce.
I agree about ND moving on from Uncharted. Enough is enough at this point. I honestly believe that Sony kind of pressed them into making another one. I do believe I remember hearing them say they felt the series had concluded after Uncharted 3[Drake's story at least]. That being said, to say the games haven't evolved since Uncharted 1 is just ludicrous. I know i'm in the minority here but I didn't think the original Uncharted was a particularly good game. I mean, it was OK, but not stellar. Uncharted to was a vast improvement over the original in pretty much every way a game can improve. Just the jump in quality from Uncharted 1 to 2 completely invalidates your argument. I'm interested in seeing what ND comes up with next[other than TLoU2]. They always seem to have their pulse on what gamer need. P.S. As much as I loved The Last of Us[Easily in my top 5 games of all time], I think they should've concluded the story with DLC of the first game. Or at least concluded the story of Joel and Ellie. The Last of Us 2 should have been an in universe story with different protagonist. There's so much meat in the world they've created, it seems kind of a waste to have the gamers only experience it through the eyes [or perspective] of Joel and Ellie. Those are my thoughts at least. Hell, this maybe the way they are going since so little is known of the game at this point.
Game play in the UC series has been one thing that has consistently improved over the course of the series. Each game added something new, and improved on what was already there. Being the same elsewhere would be expected for a franchised series unless it was some spin off.
Can't wait to put my hands on it on August 23rd. So bad Europe has to wait another week.
Usa gets it 22nd August. What are you on about?
Gamespot gave it 9 out of 10 IGN knows they're shit at reviewing many games and giving some controversial scores and criticisms. 7.5 score will make their clicks and view count soar.
Yet you'll rave when IGN gives a good score for something like Hell blade
Hellblade and this game both have rave reviews among the entire community.
when a game gets a score it deserves, yea good job. BUT when a game gets underappreciated with it's score then i will point it out.
@zivtheawesome. So basically, anybody that disagree's with your opinion is wrong then........great logic there.
Honestly a 7.5 is what I would give UC4, so if this follows that same formula I agree with this.
And I would give about 5/10 for the entire Halo, gears of war and forza series. There's that.
I agree, ddnt really enjoy uncharted 4.
Seems like for the reviewer a 7.5 is warranted. Solid mechanics but pretty much same old same old. Nothing wrong with that though. It's why I love uncharted. Solid gameplay with a great story. Can't wait to jump in 7.5 is a good score.
Of course it's the same as Uc 4 it's a freaking standalone expansion to it
Ok so it's more of the same. No complaints from me I love uncharted but it's supposed to be uncharted moving in a new direction. I guess there wasn't enough new for the reviwer.
The same old as a game that is part of a game that released less than 2 years ago with mostly review scores of 90+ is now somehow supposed to be docked about 15 points because of that reason? Makes sense.
So IGN give this a 7.5 while Zelda BOTW has a 10? For a game that is so empty? Really? Funny.
That’s going to keep me up at night.
Didn't Evolve get a 9 as well?
Yeah it did. Now there's a joke.
Zelda is a much better game than uncharted, and this is also just a dlc.
Zelda is deserving of its great score, as seen by the countless sites that have it a great score
Zelda empty? Clearly you didn't play it.
Dude Zeldas world is empty hell destructoid just had a really good article about the flaws of botw
Love the down votes, the PS fanboys are mad because they already know what will win GOTY
I didnt play it? Funny I played the game and was bored to death by it. What is this? Zelda : Shrine Hunter? You know what you NintendoFanboy like about BOTW? It's the fact that all zelda game up to the date is so old looking trash that when they released BOTW and saw that it's slightly witcher 3 vibe in it you guys instantly declares it's gonna be the best game of all time. What's there to be mad if BOTW wins GOTY when it's obviously fixed?
Based on what they showed & said, LL open world is just eye candy aside from the areas marked on the map that you're supposed to go, you can't go off the beaten path even if you looks like you can and find secrets or anything ect, that's the complete opposite of Zelda so i dunno why you're comparing them.
Zelda has more 10/10 scores than any other game before it http://digitalspyuk.cdnds.n... but I'm not sure what does Zelda score have to do with the topic at hand.
Bringing up Zelda still...? It did a number on you huh? Zelda is great man. Very likely to be most outlets goty. Anyway... can't wait to pick this up Tuesday! I preordered after this review
It's world isn't empty, you just have to find everything yourself. I know it's easy to get that mixed up when you're used to every game just telling you where everything on the map is
Interesting...I didn't like U4 (2 is the best easily) so doubt I'll pick this up now.
I agree Uncharted 2 was the high point in the series in terms of story (and multiplayer), but personally U4 was really close to 2. We saw a lot of different environments in both games that were beautiful to play unlike U1 and a little bit with U3 where the environments were not super varied.
I just wasn't a fan of all the cut-scenes, story, combat and at times it felt like a climbing simulator. There was literally no reason for the brother to be in the game.
UC2 is easily not the best because UC4 exists. well i guess you prefer constant shooting and one liners every five minutes after mass murdering of soldiers. Unlike UC4 where they pace out everything perfectly give you great conversations with characters that make them better, room to explore more freedom and a feeling that you are in a real adventure where u marvel at the scenery and solve awesome puzzles, puzzles that are almost non-existent in UC2. Seriously play UC2 now and then right after play UC4 .. except for some set pieces and story Among Thieves does not hold up well.
UC4 was soooo boring. No reason it should have been over 8 hours. Also the set pieces were completely weak compared to UC2...
1, 2, 4, 3. Though U3 in 3D was excellent, I wish the 3D would return.
Summer slump is over and I didn't manage to work on my backlog nearly as much as I planned. Got Hellblade and Sonic Mania this month already. Definitely going to pick this up as well. Good month.
Hellblade was awesome! Not perfect in the combat, but the settings, theme, lore, and sound design are 10/10
Can't wait to play it next week
The reviews and metascore are exactly as I predicted them to be and that's okay. Awesome scores for a 40 bucks game.
WTF? Really? Cons: it's too familiar, "distinct sense of deja vu", action sequences similar to Uncharted 4. I don't have a problem with the score - it's up to reviewer, and the review is ok imo, but how those things could be the major cons in the review of standalone dlc? As a fan of Uncharted, familiarity is what I really want.
sounds typical of when a reviewer is not sure how to justify some bias. not innovative and that sort of bs
Well I for one thought UC4 was pretty boring because it felt just more of the same and had really long drawn out parts. Also taking out the mythical stuff was a bummer. So if this DLC follows the UC4 formula then I'm gunna pass
Well, that's fine. But for me, I do love personal and grounded story like UC 4.
