Ppl were calling it game of the year on xbox 1 month ago. Now, it's just another indie that hardly gets mentioned. I wonder why...

KiwiViper852824d ago (Edited 2824d ago )

Because it's one of those games that is amazing while you play it, but you quickly forget the game afterwards, except for a few memorable moments. It happens with every game.

(When was the last time someone mentioned Uncharted4?)

IamTylerDurden12824d ago (Edited 2824d ago )

It's funny how this game was promoted as the second coming for the entire month it was on xbox. It was plastered atop the front page of Metacritic for 5 straight weeks and removed days before it hit PS4. Now that it's on PS4 i see hardly a peep about it. Almost nothing on N4G, nothing on Metacritic, and the only article we get is one that completely downplays it and rates it a 7.8.

GOODKylePS2824d ago

There's no global conspiracy. Just people's opinions.

Domoleary2824d ago

7.8 is a good score, no? If you read the article you'll see I called the game a modern classic in my opinion, the score reflects the fact that a significant proportion of the market won't agree with that assessment. I appreciate you taking the time to comment though, debate is what makes this kind of thing interesting.

aviator1892824d ago

wait, what?
You're partly basing your score on what the "market" potentially might think about your review??

Domoleary2824d ago (Edited 2823d ago )

@aviator189: To clarify, I meant more the fact that this is not a game for everyone, there's a significant portion of my gamer friends to whom I would not recommend this game, and a significant portion that I would. I see a review as a recommendation, and the score reflects that.
@IamtylerDurden1: Fair enough, I take all kinds of things into account when it comes to deciding how I feel about a game. Inside, frankly, lacks the factor that made limbo so special and while it's a great mystery tale it felt to me like something was missing. NMS metacritic score, to me, actually perfectly highlights how opinions on games differ, reviews of that game have ranged from 'the most beautiful game ever' to 'the most boring game ever' after all.

IamTylerDurden12823d ago

Then 7.1 must be a "pretty good" score. No Man's Sky is a 71 Metacritic yet ppl don't seem to think It's a good score.

You do realize that a 7.8 is well below the average scores for this game, right? It has a 93 Metacritic.

IamTylerDurden12823d ago

I see a review as one person's analysis of a game based solely on their experience and what THEY thought of the game. Typically the final score reflects the sentiment of the article and not whether or not certain groups will like it.

... because everyone already played it? It was like when Limbo first appeared on PS3, everyone already played it.

Josh Sawyer Reflects on Design Evolution: From Icewind Dale to Pentiment

Josh Sawyer is a name that has been familiar to RPG fans for decades. He's worked on Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights 2, Alpha Protocol, Fallout: New Vegas, Pillars of Eternity, and most recently Pentiment. How did he get into game development, how has his design philosophy changed over the years, and why did he decide to do Pentiment a little differently?

thorstein16h ago(Edited 15h ago)

Those are some great games. Icewind Dale I & II are underrated.

If Larian made Icewind Dale III, I'd lose my mind.

What a fantastic, thorough interview.

That's great news. Hopefully the Coalition can smooth some of those edges from the last Avowed reveal.

phoenixwing1d 7h ago (Edited 1d 7h ago )

Well I'm annoyed. Especially at all the ppl who said the graphics sucked. It's your fault they probably shifted the game to unreal so it could look more fancy for you. I was ok with it and hoping to actually play it sometime soon. Now it's like 99% chance it's delayed.
Edit: effing graphics whores

Obscure_Observer22h ago

"Well I'm annoyed. Especially at all the ppl who said the graphics sucked. It's your fault they probably shifted the game to unreal so it could look more fancy for you."

What the hell are you talking about dude? Avowed was already in development using the UE5. The Coalition is just helping Obsidian in the transition to its latest version (5.3)

MrBaskerville21h ago(Edited 21h ago)

Probably not even that big of a difference. Coalition might only have helped because they got a deadline to meet.

Unreal isn't nearly as bad as Unity when you update a project. Though it obviously depends on the project. But unity generally gets an aneyurism if you threaten to update, where Ue is usually less stingy.

Reaper22_21h ago

In excited for Avowed and Gears 6.

Fishy Fingers22h ago

It already was Unreal 5, its just moving to the latest build.

CantThinkOfAUsername13h ago

Latest build is 5.4 and it's better than previous iterations, particularly in animation and performance.

Lightning771d 7h ago

Apparently the latest build looks way better graphically. This rumor from Jez Cordin (who's credible) pretty much confirms it.

Interested in seeing more on Avowed in a few weeks.

Notellin21h ago

UE 5.3 has been out since September of last year. I can't believe this is news or that anyone is hyping this up.

MrNinosan21h ago

As Hellblade failed to set the world on fire, just like Halo Infinite and Starfield before it, it's time to look forward to the next Game of the Decade candidate.
Of course it needs to be hyped up ahead of time 😏

Notellin14h ago

I didn't mean the game itself. I can't believe there is a news article about an Unreal Engine update that launched a year ago.

Reading comprehension is tough for fanboys on N4G.

got_dam6h ago(Edited 5h ago)

@MrNinosan I just want to see what Obsidian can do with a real budget and development time. They have a made a some memorable games with massive time constraints an lackluster funding.

--Onilink--4h ago

Many games stick to a specific version of the Engine they had already been using to avoid delays, problems with migrations to newer stuff etc.
The version being released in September isnt really relevant, just that they decided to make the jump to it at some point in development, which is arguably good news since we know with each iteration, performance has been getting much better

MrNinosan1m ago

@got_dam
I actually look forward to Avowed, and hope that's the game that finally make my purchase of Series X in 2020 worth it.
The game I actually bought Series X for was Starfield, but sadly it didn't do it for me.

Avowed however has the potential to be incredible.

truthBombs21h ago

I liked the games unique artstyle when It was revealed. I hope they're not making the migration based on criticism. It's only a rumor anyways

MrBaskerville21h ago

I imagine the art style will stay the same. But there'll probably be some visual upgrades here and there.

anast20h ago

This was the only game I was jealous of, but It's a wait and see game now. Plus, I can wait until they release it on PSN.

Miraak82 19h ago

Right!!! Obsidian is like only XB GS that I wanna play there games . Pillars of Eternity is one of my fav game franchises and I'd love to step back into the world of Eora . Their world building and rpg systems are one of the best , I hope XB higher ups don't get in the way of them. If they released it on ps I would definitely buy it day 1

anast17h ago

I bought both Pillars for PC and Console. Good games.
