Gaming is NOT dead, it isn’t going to die any time soon, my reasoning? It’s a multi-billion dollar industry, people don’t just give up on multiple billions of dollars, and the knowledge required to make a game is so public that you’re never going to eradicate people like Indie devs. Are there issues in the gaming industry? Of course! No industry is perfect, because you can’t make everyone happy, ever. So what are the issues in gaming?
During the Game Developers Session (GDS) conference in Prague, we had the privilege of speaking with Rhianna Pratchett, an award-winning writer and narrative designer. Pratchett, who has penned some of the most memorable female protagonists like Nariko from Heavenly Sword, Faith from Mirror’s Edge, and Lara Croft from the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot, delves into the challenges and freedoms of writing for different media, AAA and indie games.
Complex? She literally made Lara Croft whine and have father issues for an entire trilogy
Groundbreaking...
Female Commander Shepard is a way better female character then Lara Croft has been.
Meanwhile it seems that female characters across entertainment media are being dumb down. What they've done to the female characters in the Avatar adaptation is insulting.
The director of the infamously scrapped Star Wars 1313 has joined the team working on Amy Hennig's upcoming Star Wars game at Skydance New Media.
I was at the announcement for it at E3. They had us in a side hall conference room that was just a couple rows of benches. When the gameplay and video demo started the side walls looked like windows that showed us dropping down levels in our ship to 1313.
Glad he’s onboard, 1313 was so ahead of its time from what was shown. This bodes well for her game. Looking forward to what they are cooking up.
After 1313 cancellation and the new trilogy I think it's safe to say Disney was the worst thing that could have happened to star wars
Well I hope the protagonist is not an angry, bitter woman, who is mad at the world and despises the need for men, or men themselves.
At today's Disney & Marvel Games Showcase, a new Captain America game was unveiled along with a short teaser, and it features Black Panther, too.
Meh . Captain America is boring and I know little of Black Panther besides the movie .
Hmm, so you will play as 4 different characters with 4 different play styles in world war 2. I’m pretty tired of games set in world war 2 but seems like the popular set piece to always go to.
It will be sort of interesting to see the narrative of The Black Panther(tachakka I am presuming) who always seemed to be uninterested in that time and who did cross paths with Capt.
Gaming certainly won't die, but it IS changing. Indie titles and casual gamers are coming to the forefront now.
i don't think the gaming industry was ever in danger of dying. you know, being the largest growing industry in the world and all...
When was it ever in danger of dying? A new generation just started and it's breaking records left and right and everyone and their mother is trying to get a cut of the pie weather it's really talented indie devs (like the Shovel Knight crew), seasoned veterans like Nintendo, Naughty Dog, etc, or wannabe gamers and devs that make crappy and awful cell phone apps and claim they are better than real games.
Gaming isn't going anywhere and with the gaming strong generation getting into their 20s, 30s, and early 40s don't be surprised to see the anti gaming news sources and political figures fade into the past.
NOTE - People don't seem to be reading the article or the title, I'm not saying gaming is going to die! I'm going to make this comment as not everyone seems to be getting my title.
Many places were going over the top and being very dramatic and calling the past 2 weeks of madness 'The Death of Gaming' hence my title.
Yea I don't think it WILL die, even in the actual description I SPECIFICALLY say it won't die. So yea, I agree it won't die, this is a calling out of all the people who said it WAS wrapped up in a Game of Thrones reference. Okay? I don't think it will, it's just a counter title to the inflamatory titles that have been coming out.
On N4G there was even a highly popular article saying "the death of gaming and the women who killed it".
I don't know how much more clear I can be. I don't like wasting my comments like this, so for one final time I will say:
The title is a response to over the top titles that have been on the internet recently due to Quinn & Sarkeesian fighting, I DON'T think it will die, I even SAY so. So before you say "It's not going to die moron" - yea I know, read what I've written first maybe? That way you can have an informed opinion on an opinion piece.
Edit - Okay so I made this comment and then people below said once more that it was a 'silly statement' and that games will continue going - I'm agreeing with you! The title even implies that they won't die - please some commenter out there tell me you're reading this shit, I feel I'm going insane right now.
Silly statement, gaming will always be around, only difference is, it's getting better.
