While Sony Computer Entertainment is enjoying massive success with the sales of the PS4, having recently surpassed ten million units sold through to customers, there’s an arm of the company that is working on a future vision where consoles might not be necessary anymore.
What does the future hold for PlayStation, including the potential of portable devices and efforts toward new hardware?
PlayStation co-CEO Hideaki Nishino says the PS5 will have a long lifecycle, but this shouldn't delay the release of the next console.
Nintendo and Sony are going to be able to hold out for a while. Xbox is going all Roku box rapidly.
so pretty much like they are doing now. the PS4 is still kicking it through this PS5 gen. Many just dont adopt the new gen right away, and so why should they be left wanting while others who do jump in get all the spoils. I certainly dont mind them continuing to support the previous at the same time as the new. We have reached that point where games can still be made to take advantage of the past as well as the present. People who keep saying new games are being held back... well they just need to suck it up. Plus there is no proof of such things.
Famitsu interviews Hideaki Nishino, CEO of the Platform Business Group. Mr. Nishino, who has planned and overseen a variety of projects and products, provides a wealth of information, including an analysis of the company's history of success and future prospects.
Well, at least they´re confirming that cross gen games will be a thing on PS6 from the start.
So the future is with PC games?
I hope that never happens , it just doesnt feel the same without owning a physical copy of the game or a physical console . I remember the first disc i had , it was grand turismo and it looked awesome , along with syphon filter and mgs1 and parasite eve 2 , i used to look alot at the back of the case and admire the beauty of it before i play it . Life is just going too fast :( .
But you would still need a device and controller to play the game, huh? I want to be able to play home console games, not mobile games.
Sony's never been good at predicting the "next big thing" with the gaming industry.
I just hope they realize cloud-based gaming is an inherently flawed concept before they dedicate too much of the PS4's functionality/library to the idea.
