A lot of great things confirmed in this direct but I'm still sad about what wasn't confirmed.

Haha...yeah shame about that

Yet we get like two new Pokemon totaling it to 4 now and still no Mewtwo, yet they could of included the Pokemon trainer had three Pokemon in one slot

Then we have the fact they are exasperating Sheik and Zero Suit Samus from Zelda and Samus, no one complained about that.

So many characters they could of had instead.

JohnathanACE3728d ago

I still have some hope for him being in there (even though its been reduced by 90%) and on the bright side Kremlings from Donkey Kong Country make King Krool seem a lot more likely.

randomass1713728d ago

Never say never with Mewtwo. You know, they still announced some really cool stuff in the Direct. I thought Greninja was kind of random, but I think it was still a really awesome view. Was there anything you liked about the Direct?

-Foxtrot3728d ago

@randomass171

Pretty much verything else apart from what I've wrote like the hardcore matches being separate now...i just feel like Nintenfo lets us down with new characters.

Whether its Mario Kart or Smash Bros they waste character slots. I wouldnt mind but we only get those games (so far) once per gen so I don't know why they dont they listen to fans input

Kennytaur3728d ago

The inclusion of Zero Suit Samus, Sheik and Charizard doesn't mean others will be dropped. I don't think they'll be hogging roster-slots as they count as veterans more than newcomers. They already have a moveset as complete as any other veteran (they all get tweaks), and making them separate characters is good IMO. Usually you'd want to play as one or the other, now you don't need to worry about the extra luggage. Charizard will probably need a lot of work, so he's kinda halfway newcomer.

And now we have a fire starter from the first gen and a water starter from the latest.

Keep in mind that Pokemon is Nintendos second biggest franchise after Mario, so plenty of reps is to be expected. Still fewer than Brawl if you count PKM trainer as three, so we'll likely see one or two more; Jigglypuff is pretty certain, Mewtwo plausible.

Alas, poor Ridley. He appears to be a type of boss, though, from what they showed. What do you think of his "shadow" appearance? I'm liking the roster of characters so far. I can't wait to see who else they have added.

Kennytaur3728d ago

If you look closely in the footage, you'll see what appears to be a wingtip... And it's grey/silver. So it's likely Meta Ridley. Based on the fact we only got to see the shadow and it didn't look too big AND the fact Sakurai didn't straight out say "Ridley is a boss", I'm thinking he's got a bigger chance of being playable now than ever before.

And even if Meta Ridley is a boss, it's not too farfetched to to argue normal Ridley still being playable. Heck, we might see Alfonso stepping in.

I'd say it's 50:50.

I'm just glad there is UNANIMOUS good news about Nintendo within the gaming community for a change.

robparko3728d ago

All solid announcements. I am also looking forward to the items in this game as there seem to be a lot of new, cool items to use.

eaise3728d ago

Dat Zero Suit Though!
First I was all,NOOOO Zero Suit is gone. Then I was all, YEESSSS a new, improved Zero Suit! Sakurai you sir make awesome Directs! (and trolled everyone)
Everything about this game looks amazing! The new items look amazing to use, the stages looks awesome (fighting other players and bosses at the same time), CUSTOM MOVESETS!!!! The only thing I don't like is that I have to wait till Winter to play it...

TheFinalEpisode3728d ago

The fact that they added For Glory mode and multiple versions of FD paints a bright future for competitive Smash.

LKHGFDSA3728d ago (Edited 3728d ago )

Summer and winter?
When is that??
This is the world wide web, we need globally universal terms.

Edit: If it's America's summer (didn't the announcement come from Japan?) then the 3DS version will come out between June 21 and late August/early September.

Kennytaur3728d ago

August and November/December.

I feel bad for Smash fans. Those guys have been trying to maintain the scene active for 20+ years and get nothing but hate from Nintendo.

RoseSapphire399d ago

Sakurai explains how he and Nintendo still don't understand how the internet works.

FTFY

Snookies12398d ago

Exactly, online play would be wonderful on Smash if Nintendo gave a crap about their online services. To be fair though, Nintendo's online offerings would be great if it were 15-20 years ago lol.

jambola398d ago

I've always said that Nintendo is either innovative and ahead of the curve
or 20 years behind, no in between

CrimsonWing69399d ago

I’m sorry, but if a game is MP then there’s no f*cking argument that can justify no online MP. What he says about competition being different from just playing with friends shows me how out of touch these people are.

It’s not until a new generation that understands things steps in to clean-house that we’ll see some evolution here.

Vanfernal399d ago

His argument is nonsensical. "You'd be limited to just playing people from your region". As opposed to being limited to playing people FROM YOUR COUCH!

CrimsonWing69398d ago

What I don’t get is how do you not have competition and experience the same issue if you have a friend that’s way better than you?

GoodGuy09399d ago

It's a big fighting game so online multiplayer is a must. Competitive smash is the only thing I see fun in these games anymore asides from the big character reveals, singleplayer is laughable and you ain't gunna have people over for couch gaming much.

If Nintendo makes a new smash, it needs a huge evolution for singleplayer/couch play to be enjoyable for me any more. But we all know they'll just do a deluxe edition for their next console lol. They really need to up their servers as well.

NotoriousWhiz399d ago (Edited 399d ago )

I can't imagine Nintendo producing a better smash game than ultimate. Roll it forward with a deluxe edition maybe with an extra character or two and call it a day.

Some other developers can try pushing platform fighters to the next level, because I don't think Nintendo is up to the task.

DarthZoolu398d ago

They already created a better smash brothers game than ultimate when they created melee

masterfox399d ago

he sounds more like is trying to justify Nintendo ineptitude to create a proper network infrastructure in order to Smash Brothers work properly online.

Xenoblade Chronicles X needs a remake when Switch 2 comes out! The game was fantastic, and it looked great! Better than most Switch games.

It isn't going to happen though. Monolith soft said "it is way too big", and would be too costly. I would absolutely buy that again, especially a remake or even a remaster.

Xenoblade Chronicles X should have sold better.

Sgt_Slaughter560d ago

One of the games I'm grateful that I found in-stock at GameStop before they quickly cleared nearly all pre-PS4/One/Switch games from their stores.

Nyxus560d ago

Perhaps if the series sold a little more on Switch, it would be worth it to do a port. If only some of those Pokemon numbers went to Xenoblade...

Sirk7x559d ago (Edited 559d ago )

I don't see how it would be too costly for them, when even a 1:1 Switch port would sell far better than the Wii U version ever did. It'd sell a million copies easy. Also, it is kinda crazy how good that game still looks.

GotGame818557d ago

X looks better than the Switch Xenoblade games.

Profchaos560d ago (Edited 560d ago )

Thank you homebrew community for breathing life into the system Nintendo spent years trying to forget.

One of my favourite systems for homebrew along with the Xbox, vita and ps2

Sirk7x559d ago

Huge library of great games with a modded Wii U. Virtual console, including injections, emulation, Wii U, Wii and Gamecube games with Nintendont on vWii.

FinalFantasyFanatic559d ago

Please port Xenoblade Chronicles X, I'm shocked it hasn't happened yet since everything else pretty much got ported to the Switch.

Playing Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS in 2021

Alex DS. from Link Cable Gaming writes: "The release of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch made playing Smash 4, on either system a thing of the past. But for today’s piece, I wanted to revisit the 3DS version of the previous generation of Smash Bros., to see how it holds up and see if time has changed my opinion on the first portable Smash Bros. game."
