Titanfall has the hype to be a billion dollar seller like CoD, but it becomes incredibly harder for that to happen when you are sticking to one platform and ignore the best selling platform.

I'm not interested in the slightest about Titanfall but it seems like many do. so for those touting "lifetime exclusivity" for the game, just remember Ninja Gaiden series and the 1st Mass Effect which are clearly PUBLISHED by "Microsoft Games Studios" and they still ended up on the PS3!

that's the thing about publishing for 3rd party dev, (although ME was released when Bioware was still under MS and EA bought them right after) they will find a loophole they can exploit to release it elsewhere. and also don't forget about "Only on" XBOX360 label on game boxes earlier on where game like Bioshock still find its way to the PS3.

so yeah...EA is a 3rd party afterall and they really wanna compete with CoD numbers 1st and foremost so chances are, we'll see Titanfall going multi sooner rather than later UNLESS MS is willing to keep sending buckets of money EA's way to keep it off the PS4.

Titanfall **IS** confirmed a lifetime MS exclusive. However, any sequel (as of now) would be fair game. So unless there's a "Sigma" loophole, no Titanfall 1 on any non-MS platform.

Let me start off by saying "I don't care about Titanfall, and won't miss it on PS4."

Now that that's out of the way.

Never say never. Examples: Mass Effect Trilogy is on PS4. Ninja Gaiden simply added the word Sigma to the name, added some content but was basically the same game, and came to the PS3.

Someone already said it but all EA has to do is name the game Titanfall: Definitive Edition, throw in some new content, and the game can easily make its way to PS4 without breaching the contract with Microsoft because it's not literally the same game.

There is a good chance that EA put a clause in the contract stating lifetime exclusivity is dependent upon the X1 being the top selling console for the first year. Were that not to be the case then the deal would revert to 1 year exclusivity.

Companies such as EA are not stupid enough to risk over 100 million in sales on a trust us to be the leader remark without getting something in writing.

Like Morganfell said, there are more than likely clauses in the contract that BOTH parties will have to honor and fulfill, and if they aren't met the contract is void. I also wouldn't be surprised if there is a buyout clause in the contract. Just because these two companies have signed an exclusive contract does not mean its guaranteed. We don't even know the details of the agreement.

With all that said, I really don't care what console or platform this game is on. If I want to play it... Well then I will.

Likely, Sony and EA were already in talks regarding Titanfall right after the botched X1 reveal. Respawn themselves said "yeah, it'll likely go multiplat". The only thing that changed was - closer to launch - they started getting hush-hush about multiplat and started saying "no, it won't come to PS4", likely because they didn't want to risk people skipping the initial launch with the reason: "hey, if it's coming to PS4, I'll just wait".

I'd take a new Warhawk/Starhawk over Titanfall in a second. I've said it enough by now, but Titanfall is the most over-hyped game of this gen (I didn't say it was going to be bad, over-hyped is different). A 6v6 online game with bots and no campaign wouldn't gain any attention if someone else was developing it.

Who knows... maybe it will be the best shooter ever, and the hype will have been worth it. We'll see. As for PS4... they said absolutely not, after the devs said maybe. But that was before the devs even knew of the EA/MS deal. Maybe it's a 1-2 year deal like Mass Effect was. I just wish all these back room would go away, and MS would invest that money in real first party exclusives instead of trying to buy 3rd parties out.

There's probably a clause where EA can buy back the exclusivity agreement to publish on another platform if they so choose. Whether they bother or just release a different game on another platform is up to them.

They could also rebrand it as another title, somewhat new game with the old content depending on the agreement.

Exclusivity deals aren't always set in stone, and money talks. For now, for MS, it's important because it will be available first on the X1. A couple years from now it won't really matter as the sequel will be out.

For sequels yes. But the first game is a lifetime sequel. Ea, ms, and respawn have all said this before. But a titanfall 2 won't be for a couple yeara. They want to be able to take their time with games not every year. Part of the reason why respawn guys left IW is because they couldn't develop cod way they wanted to. So instead of every year innovating, they were rushing each year just to get the same game out with new maps and guns

Did you just start gaming, then? With Titanfall, there has been some port-begging for a few months. What about games like MGS4? For YEARS there were persistent rumors that MGS4 would come to 360. Also, EVERYONE knows that Titanfall is a lifetime exclusive. The FIRST Titanfall that is.

EA made the deal with MS because MS shoveled them cash, and also there was probably a deal for Microsoft to have a huge marketing push for TF.

The deal with MS practically guaranteed that TF would be a successful new IP. However, any future entries in the series would be completely limited in scope and sales if it remains exclusive to MS. EA knows this, and more than likely to go multiplat.

She probably meant Titanfall as a series, not specifically the first one. Although I would love for the first one to come out on the PS4 for only one reason... to watch the XB1 fanboys squirm. Cause really, TF is all they have. It is their only ammunition for trying to make the XB1 seem better than the PS4 (as pathetic as that is, especially since TF is far from anything special).

But aside from putting Xbone fanboys in their place, the first one should remain on the XB1 for the time being. After all, we need the game to be beta tested before Titanfall 2 releases on the PS4 :-P

Think of the XB1 as the person who tries food first to make sure it isn't poisoned. They could die, but they could also be tasting some wonderful food. I say let Betafall play out on the XB1. This way the devs can fix and iron out any gameplay problems so Titanfall 2 is ready to debut on the PS4 in about a year.

You have to view it as a ip holder. They publish it through ea, MS writes a large check well ahead of time to secure the first one. This is made with sales projections in mind. If they felt they would have sold 1,000,000 on PS3 and 500,000 on PS4 then MS probably said we will cover 60% of those lost sales for exclusivity. So that's roughly $60-85,000,000 for a deal.

Fast forward! Xbl one being blown out by PS4 over 2-1 in sales and many Xbox supporters moved to PS after being told to deal with all their new restrictive policies and if u song like being monitored online all the time? Then u don't get next gen, stick with 360. MS pissed in everyone's cornflakes and is eating a lot of humble pie over the last few months. Now, EA sees what a mistake this deal was because they could have sold at least 1-1.5 mill on ps3 and possibly the same on ps4. That's almost $300,000,000 in lost sales. For what? For someone's large gamble that MS was going to crush it this new Germans not force a large migration to the competitor. Not only would they try to have at least some form of parity between the two versions, they already stated that 6v6 was intentional, and had nothing to do with the hardware. PS4 is not that much more powerful where you suddenly gain the ability to add more players. To be fair, BF4 looks pretty good on xbox one...and while that game may have a better res and some better textures for ps4, both systems have the full 64 player matches. Realistically, considering that BF4 runs on xbox one and has gigantic maps, 64 players, all while utilizing high tech graphics with destructible environments, I am sure that if they intended titanfall to allow more players that it would have been more than possible.

For those who have only ps4, hang in there, this franchise will come...even if it is not the first installment. Respawn owns the rights, and with EA clearly missing out on plenty of extra sales, they will not stay exclusive. I will likely never play titanfall on my ps4, simply because my friends are all on xbox one, but I am sure it will come to sony's platform, and prob even run at a better res.

MS will surely continue to find ways to attract fans to their platform with timed dlc, but I truly doubt, provided that this game sells the way it should, that MS will be able to pay enough money to keep it exclusive. Well, I am sure they could pay that amount, but likely would not, it just wouldn't make enough sense.

I agree, MS would have to fork up a lot of green to keep it exclusive, but they just might do it especially if it turns out to be as successful as people think it will. It could end up driving the X1 to even greater sales than the PS4 with all these FPS faithfuls running around these days. But it would be dumb as you mentioned cause putting so much cash into one franchise just can't be good for gamers, I mean don't expect too many new IP's to come to the X1 if this happens. But i have a feeling MS will use exactly the same strategy they did with the 360. Titanfall, Halo, Gears and maybe one or 2 other titles will see sequel/prequels the entire generation while they abandon putting money into new franchises and taking chances. If you own an X1 the first 2 years will probably be the best chance you'll get at multiple new IP's, after that only the few that sell well will stick around and they'll quit producing new IP's.

I too think it'll eventually come to all platforms, but I also think MS would be stupid to allow this game to go multi-plat. On the other hand EA would benefit greatly obviously from an even larger install base, and it would likely cost MS a ton of cash to keep it exclusive, but MS has the cash to throw around and I don't see them allowing what may be their most important franchise this gen to get away. It's tough to say right now what will happen, but I just think it'll eventually come to the PS4 if it continues to be the main console for consumers, and I can't imagine how much cash they would have to pay to keep each entry exclusive.

No matter what Microsoft or EA is paying to keep Titanfall OFF The PS4 you know Mr. Zampella and company are kicking themselves as each day passes and I'd bet their wives are kicking them in the head each day as well and here's why. It's reported the pre-orders are "ONLY" at about as of last week 334,000 for the 3 platforms. Now obviously that's a awsome # for a new game and for any new company but! Here is where the self hating for Respawn begins. At the end of Dec. the PS4 had already outsold the X1 by 1.2 million and the PS3 has some 80 plus million units out there in the wild. Jan. #'s have not come in yet but and I'm sure X1 had a good month but not near or even close to sales the PS4 had and remember the 80 million plus PS3's? yes, still out in the wild. Feb is here now and it will be a praise Jesus, hallelujah give your neighbors wife some lov'in kinda month for the ps4 in sales with Japan an'all and if Microsoft is lucky it will be a good month but no matter how good wait! It's not gonna be a praise Jesus kinda month and there will still be 80 million plus PS3's still out in the wild somewhere and I'm sure many of you have 1 of them. What Respawn has chosen to do ...and really there is no right or wrong here cause they'll make a buttload .....is like to rob a bank and walk away with 20% of the loot when they just as easy could have taken 100%....Now to the 360 owners who per-ordered. For those caught up in the 'but...it's a MS exclusive' rhetoric, a simple addition/alteration to the name will get this on PS4....Titan Fall - Extraction with all DLC extra weapons/maps blah blah blah. It's been done many times before, and continues to happen.

The exclusivity deal pertains to MS funding the marketing/PR (see Mass Effect 1, Bioshock 1) not the IP rights itself. Trust one thing...EA will not pass up millions of extra sales.

Exclusive until sony had rinsed every last penny, even the Microsoft coup of GTA4 DLC ended up on a ps3 after the amount Microsoft were rumoured to pay for that dlc and it didn't stay exclusive, just like dead rising 3 if it doesn't sell it'll get a release in some vein or another re-dead rising 33 and a 3rd, nothing stays exclusive unless it made by Nintendo or Sony as this is EA, chances are titanfall will be on everything from smartphones to pagers/beepers EA will port it to any old shit for another 25 copies sold, wii u will have it next, ok maybe that's pushing it, but will it stay exclusive doubtful and even of it does it's hardly end of the world/ console war, it's one game and granted looks pretty cool, life changing?
