It's OK To Not Like Grand Theft Auto

Game Informer - Hello, my name is Mike, and I don't really enjoy Grand Theft Auto. I've tried. I promise that I've tried. I played all the way through GTA III. Sure, I had to use cheat codes because of the checkpoint problems, but I saw the end.

I played through about half of Vice City, but after I realized that the wobbly cars and weird targeting of the clumsy on-foot combat weren't getting better, I stopped. I even owned a copy of San Andreas at launch and never unwrapped it because I just wasn't interested.

"I even owned a copy of San Andreas at launch and never unwrapped it because I just wasn't interested."

*Dies*

Maybe, just maybe San Andreas could have changed your opinion.........it was THAT good.

xHeavYx3879d ago

Hipster gamer doesn't like GTA, lol

TheSsus3879d ago

I know I'm in the minority, but I played GTA Vice City and San Andreas and I don't care for the franchise. But I still respect R*. Just not my cup of tea I guess.

darthv723879d ago

I got GTA4 with my PS3 when i bought it from a friend. i can honestly say i have never played it.

the style of the GTA series does not appeal to me but i can respect what it offers to others.

I do still have the game in my collection though. dont know when i will ever get around to playing but....yeah.

gaffyh3879d ago (Edited 3879d ago )

I've played a few hours of every GTA since PS2 versions, and I played San Andreas for the longest, but I still don't like GTA. I tend to get bored of it easily and I think it simply is not focused enough, because there are so many side missions.

Also don't like how its supposed to be an adult game, yet most of the buyers were underage.

I do quite like Red Dead though, but I wish they made more story focused games.

Felonycarclub83879d ago

I loved GTA but never liked San Andreas that much, I liked all the things you could do but didn't like the story that much, VICE CITY is still my favorite, I am hoping GTA V is like a mix of all the GTA's in one game :-) I can't wait for next week :-)

Thatguy-3103879d ago

GTA isn't a game for everyone. I for one am not that big of a fan of the series. stereotypical voice acting fails to immerse me in it's narrative. What looks to thrive in this game is how alive the open world is which I guess it's cool.

Bigpappy3879d ago (Edited 3879d ago )

It is ok to not like GTA. Nothing wrong with that...

except that you appear snobbish, prude and casual nob to the gaming community. Other than that no one cares, really. /jk

iceman063879d ago

LOL...yeah some people do it just for that snobbish appeal. Others really honestly don't really get into it.

bloodybutcher3879d ago

actually, out of all gta games since gta3, sa whas the only one i haven't finished. i just got bored with it:) didn't like the characters:)

no it is not okay for you to not like gta, why because if you say one negative thing then the fanboys will start a lynch mob.

GarrusVakarian3879d ago (Edited 3879d ago )

Not necessarily, im a huge self confessed R* fanboy and i can accept another's opinion. Can't appeal to 100% of people.

ZombieKiller3879d ago (Edited 3879d ago )

How is that even a legitimate statement? There are about 5 fan comments above yours and NONE of them even begin to break out the N.O.O.S.E. (-for the fanboys, see what I did there? Lol)
There are fans everywhere of a lot of things. I understand that people might take offense if you bash their series, but you're allowed to have an opinion about GTA whether good or bad.

Rockstar does no wrong to me. Their games always have quality written all over them not to mention the GTA series being the most fun I've ever had in a game. Ever. Then we took it online. There aren't enough words in the world to describe the "awesome" of it for me.

pr0t0typeknuckles3879d ago

from my experience have sad that i didnt like the driving of gta 4,or thought t was boring, but ts still okay, yet had every gta fan get passed at me and didnt even say hey hate the game

isa_scout3879d ago

I'm a huge Rockstar fan, but I also respect other peoples opinion. It's only when people get all self righteous and act like their opinion is "fact" that I retaliate with the said lynch mobbing...lol

jc485733879d ago (Edited 3879d ago )

Let me tell you that there are some people in fact who tell me I'm not a gamer for not liking GTA. I liked Red Dead Redemption like a lot, but GTA is just hard to get into for people like me. I just don't get the whole point of the entire series to be quite honest.

macethedon3879d ago (Edited 3879d ago )

Why, Most of the casual audience just have the goal to Fcuk about in GTA, thats what the franchise means to most people who buy the games from this franchise, Fcuk about & enjoy the hell out of it, seems & is very simple to acomplish.

GarrusVakarian3879d ago (Edited 3879d ago )

"I just don't get the whole point of the entire series to be quite honest"

Its quite simple really, freedom to do what you want. They are sandbox games, the appeal/point is to drive/fly/swim around and do activities, appreciate the world the devs have created, blow stuff up/cause mayhem. Just have fun and get creative doing it. The funniest times ive had on GTA games have been completely random.

Its the same as the point to any game, to enjoy it. GTA and other sandboxes just give you the tools to do it in a multitude of ways.

@jc48573

Fair enough. Although there is a story mode if you want something with a bit more direction than just free roaming.

jc485733879d ago

yea, but that's just not my kind of thing. If I want to be free, I rather spend that outside. Not a fan of taking people's car and then run off.

jc485733879d ago (Edited 3879d ago )

that's also the other aspect of the game I don't particularly enjoy if we are talking about story.

jagstatboy3879d ago

I've been a gamer since Pong, have well over two hundred games spanning multiple consoles (and I'm not counting games I've played and sold or traded), play all genres of games, spend many hours a week...

and I have never bought or played a GTA game and really have no interest to do so.

Sorry, don't hate.

TheSsus3879d ago (Edited 3879d ago )

Same, Only I started on NES and played a couple GTA games.

GarrusVakarian3879d ago (Edited 3879d ago )

Just out of curiosity, why have they never interested you?

Not hating, just curious as to why a series i love so much doesn't appeal to someone else is all :)

jagstatboy3879d ago

Well, I guess I don't care for driving in games (even in Borderlands, a game I love, I hate the driving), I don't like the overt sexual stuff like banging a hooker in a car then running her over....I know you don't have to do that but still...it's just too over the top for me.

You can probably tell I don't like Saints Row either LOL.

cocadaking3879d ago (Edited 3879d ago )

Glad to know there are other people like me, I was starting to feel like an alien...I don't know, I'm ok with violent games like Last of Us, God of War, Soul Sacrifice, but in GTA all wrongdoing feels gratuitous.

Nothing against GTA fans though.

Audiggity3879d ago

Hahaha

"The funny thing is that I understand the appeal. The tongue-in-cheek, wry approach to society is engaging. The stories are filled with memorable characters."

No, you don't understand the appeal. GTA fans don't generally buy the games for social commentary and the innuendo.

It's an open-world masterpiece, setting the bar high from a creative/technical perspective. It is arguably one of the few series that continue to push the industry towards innovation. GTA III basically spawned a whole genre, it applied reality to the context of what an open-world game could be.

If you don't like it, that's perfectly fine. You are totally entitled to your opinions! Even if they are wrong. ;o)

Take Two Boss: Grand Theft Auto Games Make So Much Money, Making A GTA Movie Not Worth The Hassle

PC Gamer writes: "Grand Theft Auto 6 is coming, but don't hold your breath waiting for a Grand Theft Auto Hollywood blockbuster."

Imagine being so rich that another Billion is just not worth the hassle... LoL :) -Sorry just can't relate...

thorstein168d ago

Reminds me of the story of some ultra rich d-bag that had so much wine that he couldn't possibly drink it all so he had to sell like 10 million dollars worth of it. No one has earned that much wealth without exploiting others.

Roarke167d ago

Thats not true.. there are ppl who for example discovered cure are super rich due patent..

Cacabunga167d ago

A GTA movie will end like a fast and furious.. omg one of the worst movie series ever..

Notellin167d ago

@Roarke The scientist that discoveres the cure doesn't become rich. The patent will belong to Lilly, Pfizer, Merck, or Roche.

The money made is then disseminated amongst the executive board members and administration teams who provide zero value to the company. The scientists will continue to be exploited receiving raises and bonuses that do not beat inflation.

Again exploiting others in order to become rich.

gold_drake168d ago (Edited 168d ago )

isnt he also the guy that said that games are way too cheap? haha.

i mean i agree with him saying the gta games make them bank ha.

XiNatsuDragnel168d ago

Well gta is too successful to get a movie can't relate 🙃

northpaws168d ago

Which is fine, I would much rather all gaming companies just focus on making good games.
