Okay, if you read the articles that you posted, then you would see that it was the military that approached Sony. They saw a way to create a supercomputing cluster of PS3's after the price cut to rival the price and efficiency of their $10,000 ones. Not really the same thing. That said, it's not as if these things are irrelevant. The actions a company chooses to take- or NOT to take, for that matter- can potentially affect a company's approach to gaming. The message Microsoft is sending out into the public about the XBOne isn't very gamer-centric, overall. That may very well turn out to not have much of an effect on their product, but is it hard to see how it COULD have an impact?

Microsoft has made a lot of missteps. They've turned some of those around, but a lot of them remain. Some of it has been PR. Some of it has been actual practices. The worrisome thing- and perhaps why some go too far with the negativity and criticism- is that some people haven't shown a shred of concern about ANY of it.

With the TV and the mandatory Kinect and the DRM and the sports deals; with the big Kinect push on 360 and the dearth of exclusives late in the gen and the RROD issue... a rather lackluster end to one gen being followed up by an inauspicious start to the next, and some people don't bat an eye in concern.

If enough people don't bat an eye, then what's to stop Microsoft from taking that silence as consent?

I worry about the industry, so I worry about more than JUST whether or not the games are there, because while the games are obviously the most important part- for a gamer- they're far from the ONLY important part.

A REAL gamer should care about all of it. If they're as core or hardcore as they claim, anyway.

I think what it means is it allows more flexibility. Like they may be able to dedicate some gpu/cpu tasks to do the others job. And the RAM can be allocated to any area they want it to be to run a game. This is true, and it's the big advantage of console optimization.

I don't really think Sony needs to or has the funds to pay people to post negative articles. But for years MS has been doing that, from articles on their own magazine to the internet. In fact, one of the reasons I chose PS3 over xbox was the bias I saw in articles that I felt MS's hand was involved. But honestly, today, Sony doesn't even need to pay anyone, I would do it for them for free because of everything Microsoft has tried to do to this point since the "reveal". Look these companies are pitching these devices to as wide an audience as they can... PS4 certainly is more gamer focused from a Sony pitch right now but that will broaden and change too. Sony just years back was pitching like mad to use your PS3 to watch 3D movies on Blu Ray.

If these devices can legitimately serve another purpose beyond gaming ...why is it such a bad thing that the companies would position it that way to those groups?

Video conferencing as it stands is growing... many smaller businesses use their lap tops in conference rooms now and what you get are people trying to huddle into the camera view. Kinect for video conferencing even as it is today is quite good. Its got a wide view of a room and the picture (currently is good) will be very good with Kinect 2.0. A $500 expense to get a good system for video conferencing is not out of the ball park for a small business.

Are we going to see major ad campaigns promoting Xbox One for small business...I highly doubt it. Can it be part of a MS pitch to small business on ways to do things differently? Absolutely.

I agree with you, but the issue is that MS has been a mess with PS. Right now there is no solid message from THEM. You seem to support them, so you are not the problem for them. Their issue is branding to customers that are on the fence and new customers. All companies would like to reach into different areas. PS3 correctly branded, then re-branded for a reason. Sony was betting on Blu-ray from day one. They HAD to get that message out. When it was clear that the war was won on that front, they focused on the "everything" approach because by then Xbox 360 had penetrated into mass market. They couldn't say we have game too. So, they marketed their OTHER features that hadn't been focused on.
The Xbox One has yet to see the light of day and the focus has been lacking...in terms of messaging. I don't see them marketing Xbox for business in campaigns, but they need to get a clear concise message for where it is going...and soon.

The issues are more so with focus on what gamers want vs. what the business wants from gamers (thus the DRM crap). You are also correct about supply and demand. Let's just hope that MS can provide more solid reasons for the demand aspect. (launch games look great, but then what?) If so, then the competition should be healthy enough to drive Sony and Nintendo forward as well.

This is exactly what MS wants. The devices currently used for video conferencing, etc. cost THOUSANDS of dollars. This is a great deal for business of all sizes, and a huge boon for MS, when it comes to putting Windows and MS everywhere.

Im sorry, maybe this is just sheer ignorance on my part, but 'what' exactly in the way benefits and service a Xboxone provide for a small company??
Im sure that many if not all and possibly even more features and benefits, would be available on other devices, and at a far less cost.
i.e. tablet, basic laptop, phone!?!
Trying to sell a 'home entertainment' to a small 'low-running cost' firm makes no sense what-so-ever.
