The Nvidia Shield is an Android-based handheld game console that can also stream games from your PC. I don’t know whether it’s a dumb idea, poorly implemented, or a clever idea, poorly implemented. I suspect the former.
Within five minutes of playing on the Shield, its flaws become immediately apparent. This is an awkward, eye straining and wrist fatiguing experience.
Starting in mid-February, a planned update to the NVIDIA Games app will begin rolling out to SHIELD owners. With this update, the GameStream feature will no longer be available. SHIELD users can continue to use GameStream until that time.
For sometime, I'd been contemplating getting a Shield to replce my Steam Link hw as the Shield is a more capable 4K/60 device for streaming. Happy they notified us before I finally decided to pull the trigger on getting one.
The firmware update 8.2.2 for Nvidia Shield with some interesting changes is now available for download. It is now possible to use the controllers of the PS5 and Xbox Series X on the device. Further details can be found in the message.
It's nice to have the support. But without the unique functions of the DualSense I wouldn't go for it unless you already have a PS5 laying around. As there are many other controllers compatible with the system that will also cost much less.
Just ordered my Shield T.V (new tube looking one), coming tomorrow, it should pair nice with my pc. This is great news as I have both PS5 and Xbox controllers no need to buy another controller.
Nvidia's GeForce Now streaming service is currently in beta, but the company hopes it will compete with Google Stadia to change the future of gaming. See how it works.
What people never mention is the game streaming is not exclusive the the Project Shield, it will also work on any other device powered by a Tegra 4.
Looks like it must be very top heavy. Would get annoying trying to keep it level while playing
I go to try this during Day 1 of E3.. it was alright, but it wasn't something I'd be interested in dropping 300+ for.
