Bethesda asks for fan input for Fallout 4, considering co-op

As gamers are hoping to see “Fallout 4” announced during this year’s E3 event, it looks like Bethesda is getting closer to confirming the game’s existence. Moderators from the developer’s official “Fallout” forum asked fans for their suggestions on what they want to see in the series’ next installment. This is the first time that Bethesda has recognized that there will be a new “Fallout” game, and are now asking players to give their input after asking for suggestions through the following statement, "Discuss items you'd like to see in a future game, gameplay tweaks, quest ideas, things you hope are not in the next game and so on. If you want to discuss major issues, use a separate topic - such as the discussion about adding multi-player or co-op play."

Judging from the information the developers are requesting to have discussed, it appears that there is the possibility that some form of co-op gameplay is possible for “Fallout 4.”

I'd prefer they concentrate on ensuring the game works, before considering adding more features.

Evildoomnerd4007d ago

As much as I loved both fallout games, it seemed like New Vegas had twice the bugs/glitches that FO3 had. Makes you wonder what the QA testers where doing before the game went gold.

gamertk4214007d ago

My guess is QA was finding bugs left and right, but only focused on the game breaking ones, and even then couldn't get to them all. The size of the world, the inventory system, the AI: that is a lot to get through. Hopefully a new engine will do away with many issues...

SilentNegotiator4007d ago

Plus Fallout is a single player experience. If they bend it around co-op, so much will be lost.

mistajeff4007d ago

QA was scrapped for New Vegas by Bethesda because the ship date was moved up. After New Vegas, Obsidian created their own QA department. Bethesda doesn't seem to be one of the most supportive publishers out there..

I thought this one will have massive cities that are futuristic and cyperpunkish rather than retro wasteland. I hope for a huge world with a variety of things to do.

Just make sure the game works.

Campy da Camper4006d ago

The glitches of Bethesda games are a staple. What needs to go is the game freezing up every 45 minutes.

Who doesn't like NPCs with spinning heads?

Sadly, that's tough to do. New features that major need to be considered in the planning stages of development cycle.

Mr_Nuts4007d ago

Thats true...so if they are going to announce it this year then surely the game is already well into the development stage.

I don't know why they would want to do this anyway I remember them saying for Skyrim the reason they didn't do it is because it would take them so long to add it that the single player would suffer. Why do people not get that.

Tetsujin4007d ago (Edited 4007d ago )

I want an option in Co-op where your friends can't harm NPC's, the most interaction is limited buy/sell/trading; or at least separate co op from single player modes. I can already tell there would be some troll friends finding it funny to kill certain NPCs for main/side quests.

Edit: I'd also like to add "if" there is a co op option make it open region with other players; I'm sick of friends overseas play the same games I do however due to region locking on the servers we can't ever play together; yet every time I offer to play something here in the US it's always CoD and/or some other FPS/3rd person shooter.

Since it's most likely next-gen I also hope their QA does a much better job at finding glitches/bugs because I'm sick of always buying Bethesda games and I'm one of the lucky ones to find some sort of game-breaking issue that never gets patched.

Campy da Camper4006d ago

I could see it where you roam the world together doing coop specific side quests. Sort of a red dead type. As for doing the main story, I'd drive a human partner nuts. I spend hours doing inventory and basically play like Im Sam Fisher. Snipe snipe fatman!

Mr_Nuts4007d ago

Exactly can you imagine what the bugs would be like for co-op alone. They would spend too much time after release and during the development focusing on the co-op, which is NOT easily as done as people like to think, that single player lovers who play those games because of the fantastic single player it offers will feel like they have be screwed over.

Co-op DOES NOT belong in Bethesda games like Elder Scrolls and Fallout. Want co-op go play something else.

uncharted564007d ago (Edited 4007d ago )

I can see how how Skyrim and Fallout had trouble on the consoles because of the limited size of the memory. The game worked but I think might had been a little too ambitious for last gen. But then that does not explain why it didn't worked on pc that well. I think it was just a bad console port. I can also tell that they coded these games awfully because they took more resources then they should had. Hopefully with the next gen hardware they will be able to make better games and code it efficiently this time around.

titletownrelo4007d ago

Skyrim should've had co-op. THe ability to play with a friend on adventures and missions would've been epic.

T24007d ago (Edited 4007d ago )

I disagree because the game could be the same but optional friend drop in would just be an additional feature ... Fun to chat with friend while exploring OR go solo is win win

ltachiUchiha4007d ago

That would be awesome but damn co-op for a long azz game like fallout? I racked up 50+ hours easy with fallout 3 & new vegas & thats with just sticking to the main quests & is harder that way. Hope it works, would be cool. The computer AI especially my dog in both fallout games always get killed lol. Atleast if we got friends to play as them or another human, they will be smart about it instead of going head first into each battle lol.

Shadonic4007d ago

The addition of a friends you can play with always makes the game better.

ltachiUchiha4007d ago

Definitely im not against it one bit, its just fallout games are really long. Maybe im just over thinking it because im so use to playing it by myself but i agree co-op would be great.

Wintersun6164007d ago

No, it does not. It would absolutely destroy the mood of Fallout if someone else was there fooling around. I didn't even use the companions in any of the Fallout games, it just seems so wrong to have a supermutant following you and killing everything for you.

If there is some kind of co-op in Fallout 4, I really hope it will be a separate mode from the real deal. Or a system where your friend or a stranger can join you but you have the option to keep everyone off your game too if you want to.

ps3_pwns4007d ago

no i don't want coop. leave that to gta 5 or other similiar open world games. fallout needs to be single player because otherwise they will try and make it into an online always game.

i play fallout to be in a secluded and lonely world to scavenge for items and loot and sneak around and pick locks and read computer logs and such. not at any point did i want a real life friend with me. even the computer ai friend companion i didnt really want but they give you extra storage space. id actually the computer ai companion to be far weaker so his attacks barely have an effect damage wise and be more of a specialist in giving you certain perks and ammos/tactics

Lord_Sloth4007d ago

@Wintersun

Player 2 would be along for the ride in Player 1's world, just like in Fable. None of the decisions are theirs. If you don't want co-op, fine. Make it an optional feature so that people can still play a solid, solo experience as they're used to, but many of us enjoy sharing the journey.

dgonza404007d ago

Like dead space 3, right?

Shadonic4006d ago

This is my opinion I would love to travel around with a companion being controlled by one of my dearest friends while we travel across skyrim or in Fallout and most of the people who disliked this post would enjoy that as well but there really just looking at the addition of something that YOU DO NOT HAVE TO USE.

GuyThatPlaysGames4007d ago

Nobody said you gotta play the whole game co-op. Just have it to where anyone of your friends can join you at any time. Alot of the battles would have been more fun and easier with an extra buddy to help you out.

xXBlondieVanHarlowXx4007d ago

^^ This.

As long as the option to play F4's single player is still there, then I am all for an extra feature that allows a buddy to be there with me. I remember that one mining site in NV (the one full of Deathclaws), after i miraculously killed them all I thought, this would have been alot more fun with a buddy x)

How would dying work though?

Shadonic4006d ago (Edited 4006d ago )

EXACTLY its like whenever you mention multiplayer in a form that would not affect the story whatsoever they fans just destroy the thing not even giving it a chance. From the way i see it people are mostly thinking of this from a story wise perspective when it doesn't need to be, your friend can just be a sort of companion in your world and when he joins he takes control. You don't have to shoehorn anything in. The only issues would probably be missions but that can always be adjusted to play out in different ways but with game development there can be countless errors.

Jovanian 4007d ago

fallout is a game meant to be experienced by yourself imo

don't shoehorn co-op into this

Roccetarius4007d ago (Edited 4007d ago )

I can just imagine double the bugs and glitches, if do they add this to the game.

What i do hate about this generation, is that devs added more players to games that were fantastic to begin with.

The result wasn't exactly fantastic.

Typical-Guy4007d ago

Most of their games are buggy as one player, what would happen while online and with another player...?!

Drabent4007d ago

CO OP HELL YES YES YES!!!!!

How nice of them to give us more control over graphical settings as a way to *completely* avoid taking accountability for the broken Xbox settings.

bondsmx7d ago

Well, I still crashed like 5 times last night within two hours. So there’s that.

anast7d ago

I had to stop. The game is not good. I'd rather play Skyrim and that game isn't that good either.

I Think It's About Time We Realize Fallout 4 Wasn't That Bad

Ahmed from eXputer: "2015's Fallout 4 received harsh criticism upon launching, but I think it was unwarranted and the game deserves more praise than it got."

helicoptergirl13d ago

It was totally that bad. I couldn't finish the campaign it was so bland and boring as I recall. Got so sick of it. 1000 stimpaks on hard. It is very rare that I play half a game and then just quit. I usually always finish it. But i was so bored with this game I just stopped and never went back and never regretted it. Just thinking about that game makes me shudder

Furesis13d ago

That's exactly what happened to me too lmao
Fallout 4 is not a fallout game period it's a bethesda game

Vits13d ago

The comparison with Skyrim is mind-boggling. Yes, Skyrim has streamlined many of the systems that Morrowind introduced. However, it did not tamper with the core of the Elder Scrolls franchise; it did not diminish the freedom and sense of exploration that made Bethesda RPGs famous. Fallout 4, on the other hand, did exactly that to the Fallout series. It eliminated what made Fallout such a beloved series to play. There are no consequences for your choices, no reason to explore, and barely any interesting set pieces in the game.

It's not terrible, but it's a painfully mediocre game in a franchise that typically doesn't produce such mediocrity. So that is why people see it as bad, the bar is just much higher.

anast13d ago

They both feel the same because they are, it's just that one has swords and magic and the other has swords and guns.

anast13d ago

I'm replaying it now. It sucks. I'm about 30 hours in and thinking about quitting again. I am so tired of the dialogue I just spam a random button because it doesn't matter. The upgrade just feels like a graphical mod, everything else is not good.

Good-Smurf13d ago (Edited 13d ago )

I couldn't play the game as-is it was insanely boring and grindy and the grind itself are not fun at all.
Mods helped me stomach the game a bit better but after a while I just stopped playing and uninstalled it because the game did nothing after the first few hours to give me any motivation to keep playing it, it just became a mindless looter shooter with obsession in settlement building and defending.
Compared to F3 and FNV, F4 was barely a mediocre game it wasn't bad but it's also very forgettable entry.

MrDead13d ago

It's not that bad after 300+ mods that fix it's issues and make the game fun... but lets not talk about mods right now as they are f****d.
