If you've played any of the Getaway games, you might know who Katie Ellwood is. Or at least you should - she wrote the screenplay for the original game, and then joined Sony Computer Entertainment as a script consultant and assistant producer. She's now the narrative producer and writer for the Getaway franchise, currently working on a version for the PlayStation 3. Den of Geek asked her some questions about her job...
The most expensive PS2 games are usually the most niche from genres like horror. 505 Games usually is attached as well.
"I found some photos that I don't think have ever seen the light of day"
Getaway could have been a blockbuster but ended up being a frame rate jank feat. Absolutely horrible
The Getaway had a good script, good location and an early yet janky cover system. All that potential was wasted unfortunately.
GB: "With this feature, we take a look at 15 of the best open world games that have a gangster theme."
I sort if disagree with The Getaway. Playing it all those years ago, it had a dodgy control system, more so vehicles, was slow and was graphically unfinished. The sequel was even worse and the third game on PS3 was canned. I think Sony should take both games and merge them into one (as with the soon to be released Max Payne 1 and 2). Weird how Sony messed up The Getaway never to be seen again.
The Getaway's strength has always been its storytelling and atmosphere, too bad the gameplay was bland. I hope they bring the gameplay to the forefront for the PS3 version because they always have so much untapped potential.
