Over twenty years have swept by, but barely any other gangster shooter is as dark and exacting as The Getaway.
The ambitious PS2 action game is still revealing secrets to this day.
I loved the Getaway. Its controls are/were a bit dated and hard to use, but playing what is basically GTA in London was really cool. Such a great setting for a criminal underground gangster game. I like that it flipped between the cops and the criminals.
Sequel was good too, and the tech demo they released for PS3 with Amsterdam as an extra setting looked great. I was pretty disappointed when it got canned.
The Getaway was great. It felt unlike anything else. I'd really love to see Sony revive the franchise. GTA is taking longer and longer between releases. So it would be nice to play through other open world crime games while we wait. Sony can revive The Getaway. MS can revive True Crime. Saints Row is finally coming back this year too.
man, would love more contemporary action crime games, open-world or not. The matrix awakens demo makes me want those a lot more now, the possibilities of a good action game with those visuals.
I always forget about this one. Played a bunch and loved it but never beat it. Never understood why this is one they never ported to new gen or even remade/rebooted
Sometimes an interesting setting and high quality of open-world map aren't matched by the rest of the game. Here are four open-worlds that didn't get the games they deserved
Got AC Unity for free when Notredame burned. Story never compelled me to finish it but man I played it two or three times because of the city and the fluid parkour
AC Unity looks amazing. I kind of see it as the last AC game where Ubisoft had big ambitions. Too bad it was riddled with bugs, MTs and a generic story. I doubt we'll see a AC game looking as good and having as much details in animations and the open world as AC Unity did.
The Getaway and Sleeping Dogs
Both had well designed worlds but you had so little fun in the mix
Open world has killed gaming.
Everything feels like a walking simulator...fun stuff.
BY GRANT TAYLOR: In the light of the Xbox Series X and PS5 announcements, we’ve also discovered a long list of new IPs along with them. The two video gaming giants are leaving nothing to chance, and both have teased a huge list of potential launch titles for their next-generation consoles. Aside from that, we’ve also seen a variety of returning classics, follow-ons, or a sequel for not-so-old games, like Horizon, Halo, or Resident Evil.
However, I’m of the firm belief that there are many games out there in the past that still deserve (or desperately need) sequels. The games featured below are some of the top titles that I personally feel are definitely overdue a sequel.
Rapid fire list, go!
I loved the first one sooo mu h, would love a new game or even a remake would awesome tbh.
Bring it back Sony!!!
Mark Hammond. What a great game. It was much better than part 2. This game defined what true next gen was to me back in that generation, it's definitely due for a remake.
Excellent game, Black Monday wasn’t too good but the first one was amazing. The way the waypoint system worked with car indicators and the healing mechanic leaning against the wall. Loved it.
This game looked so good back in the day. Still holds up well even now. Could you imagine what a PS5 remake would look like?
