EA vs FOX - x360a Shows Its Support! Sign the Petition, Spread the Word!

"Well the Fox and EA scenario has been in the x360a headlines today. It started with a reporting of a typical news agency spreading propaganda about gaming and ultimately ended with Fox giving EA the cold shoulder with the old "contact the PR department" line. It has definitely got a few of our backs up and ruffled a few feathers. It seems as if Fox don't care what they report and we believe in reporting truthful facts so we decided to start a petition to unite ourselves against the propaganda that these agencies continue to spread. So we stand here, side by side with EA and toe to toe with Fox. Show your support and sign the petition and then tell a friend."

I think its so stereotypical of news reporters to twist things around to video games look bad. First Go old Jack T. said that Halo 3 is too violent and now Fox accusing Bioshock of releasing a game for kids that has sex scenes in it.

This isn't about sex scene, violence or discrimination, this is about stoping these journalists giving game and developers bad name not knowing what the game is how it's aimed for.

Did any of you even WATCH the broadcast? Here's what happened in case you didn't. Fox brought on two folks with opposing viewpoints, and the pro gamer clearly shot down the other guests' inaccurate comments about the game. He was never 'trapped', never cut off or talked down to. Case closed.

The segment began by saying that some critics claim the game is being marketed to children. That is NOT Fox saying that, they're reporting that other critics are claiming that, which is true. You may not like it, but critics all over the place have been saying that for weeks now, long before Fox reported it.

Finally, 'graphic sex' is in the eye of the beholder. To me, anything I wouldn't want a child watching is 'graphic sex' so therefore, Mass Effect, along with many, many television shows (and other video games), also contains 'graphic sex'.

* Clearly the main focus of the segment was sex in games

* Microsoft/xbox 360 was only involved in the story due to Mass Effect being exclusive to them.

* Fox news routinely shows both views of the story. The segment shows a Non-game vs a Gamer's view of the game.

* The Non-gamer is clearly focused on how violence and sex in games are contributing to the desensitization of the senses of gamers - particularly young males.

* The Gamer states the facts: no full nudity and the scene is only a tiny portion of the game as a whole.

* Even the Interviewer admitted after doing some research had not seen anything overtly scandalous. However, she was concerned about how easily the control measures

* Then the segment got comments from regular contributors - to the network and many stories - who clearly haven't played the game but like the non-gamer are concerned about how increasing adult orientated games are becoming - and incorrectly classified Mass Effect as such a game due to what they thought the sex scene was doing.

USE YOUR BRAINS GUYS.

Both sides had valid points except Mass Effect shouldn't have been used as an example of a game with violence/sexual content that contribute to desensitizing gamers.

I've sure we've all heard that ** GRAND THEFT AUTO ** is a gay, kiddies game while the real gamers play a Mans game like ** LITTLE BIG PLANET **. Oops, sarcasm folks. Desensitization at work her me thinks.

Plus you just had to listen to what the gamer said about the game content and the interviewer said about her research to know straight away that Mass Effect isn't as bad as they were making out.

And therefore take the other comments with a grain of salt. No lies being spread here. You chose what to believe.

And yes, I am a regular watcher of Fox News who are not perfect, have a tendency to sensationalize, definitely have a lean to the Right BUT ALSO shows both sides of most stories which other news networks rarely do.

You make some good points Quackpot. But at the end of the day, they did use Mass Effect as their example, so I believe EA/Bioware have a right to be kicking up such a fuss. Mass Effect aside, I signed the petition anyway, not just becuase of this incident, but for the constant heat that's on the games industry. They see that having this so called "sex scene" in a game as completely scandalous because non-gamers are still under the illusion that it's only kids that play these games, which is false. Besides, what would be more difficult for a 10yr old boy to do: Try and buy an M rated game from a store who will ask him for identification, or simply open firefox and type sex into google?? I just think there are ridiculous double standards when it comes to games, and it's just unfair. There's much worse things more easily accessible on the internet than what we've ever seen video games, so why do they constantly have this heat on games and not the internet etc? And I'm not even going to start about violence in video games, I'd be here all day.
