Glimpse of New Weapons in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom
The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom is one of the most anticipated releases of 2023. The combat in Breath of the Wild was fantastic with a lot of fun to be had. However, some players felt it lacked in some departments. It will be interesting to see how Nintendo intends to tackle this issue in Tears of the Kingdom.
Playing Breath of the Wild, we wished for more weapon variety as they tended to degrade and break quickly. With that in mind, let’s see the types of new weapons Nintendo has showcased so far.
New Weapons in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom
While Nintendo has been pretty secretive about the new weapons in Tears of the Kingdom, the few glimpses we saw confirm that they are going to be a lot different from Breath of the Wild. The solid foundation from Breath of the Wild will allow Nintendo to freely experiment with all sorts of new ideas. In fact, we expect players to be able to craft or mix and match weapons similar to cooking in Breath of the Wild.

Flaming Dragon Head

One creative weapon we saw was the flaming dragon head that Link mounted on his left arm during the trailer. This weapon can be seen spewing flames at a worm-like creature. The flames are concentrated and different from the Fire or Blast attacks from the previous game. The dragon design also has a green orb in the middle, possibly symbolizing the new technology that will be employed in Tears of the Kingdom. We’re excited to see how this weapon will be balanced in combat and implemented in puzzles.
Revamped Master Sword

The Master Sword is an iconic weapon found in almost every Zelda game and has some fascinating lore to it. However, we see it in the Tears of the Kingdom trailer in a different state from its usual pristine glow. The Master Sword is broken, with its blade visibly rusting away. This probably means it got broken somewhere during the game’s story and Link will have to reforge it. This repair process may imbue the Master Sword with some new powers and properties to defeat whatever evil broke it.

Link’s New Arm

We know that Link will be getting a new arm in this franchise that will function similarly to the Sheikah Slate from Breath of the Wild. However, its full capabilities are still unknown. The arm is powered by the same mysterious green energy that is present through a lot of the game’s footage. The arm may have many abilities that allow it to function similarly to a weapon such as a laser canon or punches powered by Link’s classic bombs. The arm is definitely one of the most exciting aspects of Tears of the Kingdom.
Bomb Launcher
Another new weapon we saw was the hammer Link spins around to hurl a bomb at a Stone Talus. Hammers were included in Breath of the Wild but this weapon appears to be more of a sling with a cylindrical top. The new bombing functionality could give combat a whole new dimension and play style that we look forward to testing out.
Time Stop

Time Stop was already a prominent feature in the previous installment, Breath of the Wild. However, the trailer showed it weaponized like never before. The Time Stop ability seemingly reversed the entire projectile motion of the oncoming spiked ball and sent it flying back into the enemies. This ability could serve as a powerful weapon if it lets you redirect enemy attacks at one another.
That’s what we know so far about the new weapons coming in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. If you’re excited about the game, be sure to check our guides on the new types of enemies and crafting mechanics.
