Destiny 2 is a harrowing world where humanity is on the brink of extinction. Fighting for humanity and its allies is an Awoken Titan named Commander Zavala. As the leader of the Vanguard, the heavy responsibility of defending the Traveler and the Last City falls on his shoulders. Fortunately for us, there’s no one better suited to the task.
So who is the actor capable of voicing such a monumental character?
Destiny 2 Commander Zavala Voice Actor
Since Destiny’s inception in 2014, only one man has voiced Commander Zavala, Lance Reddick. His unmistakable voice has guided countless Guardians since the beginning. Unfortunately, Lance Reddick passed away on March 17, 2023. Aside from his work on the Destiny series, he was also known for his roles in Sony’s Horizon series, John Wick, The Wire, and many other inspiring performances.

The news of Lance Reddick’s passing has left the Destiny community reeling. Commander Zavala is one of the first characters that Guardians meet and has been a constant ever since. Where many actors either left or were replaced, Lance Reddick stuck with Destiny because of his love for the game and the community. In fact, he was playing the night before his passing.
At the time of this article, it’s unknown what Bungie will do with the character of Commander Zavala. Many are requesting that he not be recast and that the character be given a proper farewell, much like Cayde-6 did in the Forsaken expansion. Regardless of what happens to our Commander in-game, our hearts go out to the family and loved ones of the man behind the voice.
