One of the most important things in Minecraft is definitely mining for ores. After all, it’s so important that it’s in the name of the game. However, have you ever wondered how many different types of ores are in this game? Or where all of them can be found? Well, we’re here to tell you just that.

Where to Find Coal Ore

Of course, we just had to start with coal ore, the first ever coal to be added to the game Minecraft. This ore is very common and pretty much spawns everywhere in the overworld, so chances are you’ve come across it a couple of hundred times if you’re a regular Minecraft player.

From the very top of the highest mountains in the game down to bedrock level, you’ll find coal ores everywhere, and it can be mined with any pickaxe with no problem.

Where to Find Iron Ore

Next up are iron cores, which can be very commonly found in caves and other deep underground places. The best way to look for some iron ores is by mining directly down until you hit the bedrock surface.

After getting passed the bedrock surface, start mining forward instead of downward, and before long, you’ll find yourself coming across a bunch of iron ore just waiting to be mined by you. Iron ore can be mined by using a stone pickaxe or higher.

Lapis Lazuli ores aren’t as commonly known by casual players, but Lapis Lazuli can be used to craft some rather handy stuff. If you’re looking to get your hands on some and want to look for Lapis Lazuli ores, the best place to do so is inside caves and ravines under Y level 32.

When you do find some Lapis Lazuli ore, you can use a stone pickaxe or higher to mine it for some valuable Lapis Lazuli. Remember to use the Fortune enchantment for any ore that comes after this point, as they’re gradually getting rarer to find.

Where to Find Gold Ore

Not all that glitters is gold. It can be a gold ore too. At least if you’re anywhere between levels 32 and 80 and you come across an ore that is the same color as gold, then chances are it’s a gold ore.

Gold ores can also be found at any elevation in Mesa Biomes, the desert-like biomes full of cacti, steep cliffs, and lots of sand. When you do come across a gold ore, you can use an iron pickaxe or higher to mine it and collect some valuable gold.

Where to Find Redstone Ore

Redstone ores are also rather common, though not as common as the ores mentioned above this. To find some ores for yourself, the best place to look for them would be anywhere below layer 15 of the world. They can be identified by their veins, similar to coal ore.

A Redstone ore can be mined by using an iron pickaxe or better and is likely to drop anywhere between four to five pieces of Redstone dust at a time when mined.

Where to Find Diamond Ore

Here it is. The most popular ore in Minecraft is the diamond ore. Although these ores aren’t the rarest to find, they’re definitely rarer than any other ore we’ve mentioned thus far. However, that’s to be expected by the famous diamond ores, right?

The thing with diamond ores is that although they start generating from 0-16, the deeper you go the more likely you’ll be to come across diamond ores. Because of this, it’s always recommended to keep digging down until you’re just about to hit bedrock, then start mining forward instead of downward.

When you come across some diamond ores, you can use an iron pickaxe or higher to mine them to extract the valuable diamonds inside.

Where to Find Emerald Ore

Every ore thus far could have been discovered in any general area. However, that isn’t the case with emerald ores. If you’re looking for an emerald ore, the only place you can do so is in the windswept hills and the mountain biomes (which used to be called shattered terrain).

Now, you can find emerald ores anywhere on the mountain, from 320 all the way down to -16, which is in the caves. However, the most common place to find them is at exactly 256, so you should look for them around that height. However, if you don’t find them instantly, don’t be disheartened, as they’re rather rare.

One thing that’s helpful is that they’re very commonly found exposed to air, which helps a bit. When you find an emerald ore, you can use an iron or diamond pickaxe to mine it, though you’ll only get one emerald for your troubles.

Where to Find Nether Quartz Ore

Here’s another ore that doesn’t spawn in any general area in the overworld. As a matter of fact, nether quartz ores don’t spawn in the overworld at all, as you’ll have to make your way over to the Nether if you’re looking to mine it.

By going to the Nether by either building their own portal or repairing a broken one, players will find that nether quartz ores are actually pretty common. The best thing about them is that they’re usually found in groups, so you can find multiple ores when looking for just one.

The second best thing is that you don’t need a specific pickaxe to mine this specific ore. Even if you have a wooden pickaxe, it should be enough to do the job easily.
