The Outlast Trials is a horror survival game, developed and published by Red Barrels Inc. It is the third installment of The Outlast series but is actually a prequel to the first two games. It can be played as a solo experience, but it can also be played in a cross-platform online cooperative mode. In The Outlast Trials, you have to complete a certain set of tasks to progress the game. During these “Trials” you’ll encounter various characters that are usually hostile, but not all of them. Now, let’s see the list of all the characters in The Outlast Trials.

The List of All Characters in The Outlast Trials

Protagonists

  • Reagents – these are the player characters. They are people who have, for one reason or the other, volunteered to be part of Murkoff Corporation’s experiments.

Prime Assets

Prime Assets are the more recognizable members of the Ex-Pop, and a primary danger to the Reagents. They had real professions in their former life, and now they continue doing them, but in a twisted, sadistic way.

  • Mother Gooseberry – she is a woman with a split-personality disorder, either speaking as Mother Gooseberry, a “loving” motherly character, or as Doctor Futterman (via the duck-puppet on her hand), a more aggressive and profane personality.
  • Leland Coyle – a corrupt and violent ex-police officer, who delights in assaulting and electrocuting people with his shock baton.
  • Prescott Whitehorn – a large but delusional man, called “The Angry Man” by some.

Ex-Pop

The Experimental Population, they are the most numerous characters of The Outlast Trials. They are the brainwashed failed test subjects of Murkoff’s experiments, left behind as an obstacle for the Reagents.

  • Grunts – the most common antagonists, they are former drug addicts and homeless people, how twisted by the Corporation.
  • Big Grunts – the “violent children” of the Population, they are similar to Grunts but more aggressive, stronger, and slower.
  • Pouncer – a Specialist Ex-Pop, these paranoid individuals hide in dark places, ready to ambush unsuspecting Reagents and rip them apart.
  • Pusher – another Specialist, Pushers wear gas masks and carry a gas tank, with the intention to shower Reagents with noxious gases that induce psychosis.
  • Screamer – existing in a half-asleep state, Screamers will emit a high-pitched scream when disturbed, stunning the Reagents and possibly altering any nearby Ex-Pop to the player’s presence.
  • Imposters – Specialists that appear during co-op play. They resemble other Reagents and will use that to sneak close and stab players to death.
  • Berserker – a special version of Big Grunts, Berserkers are blind but destructive individuals that swing large chains at everything around them.
  • Night Hunter – Grunts with night-vision goggles.
  • Pitcher – Grunts with burlap sacks over their heads, armed with Molotov Cocktails.
  • Ground Pitcher
