With Stellar Blade’s release date nearing, many players wonder if it is a Souls-like game. The game is set on a post-apocalyptic Earth after the war with alien invaders called Naytiba. Our protagonist Eve is a member of the 7th Airborn Squad tasked with reclaiming the planet from alien invaders. But is Stellar Blade a Souls-like game, let’s find out.
Is Stellar Blade a Souls-like game?
In short, yes, Stellar Blade is a Souls-like game, but with a bit of a twist. Many of the staples and mechanics of a Souls-like game are present in the game. The world of Stellar Blade is brimming with challenging boss fights that will need precise timing to beat. Successfully parrying enemy attacks will fill Burst Gauge that allows Eve to do devastating manoeuvres called Retribution.

Exploring the post-apocalyptic locations in Stellar Blade feels quite similar to other Souls-like titles. Interlocking maze-like locations, with enemy placements reminiscent of other games in this genre. This means that you will have to tread carefully when entering big empty rooms, there is most certainly a monster waiting in an ambush there.
Other Souls-like mechanics can be found in the game as well. Scattered across the map are supply camp chakpoints which function similarly to bonfires in Dark Souls. Using these supply camps will replenish Eve’s health and they can be used to retrieve stored items. However, using supply camp checkpoints will respawn all nearby enemies.
Unlike Souls-like games, Stellar Blade features multiple difficulty options. This means that at any point you feel like you are struggling with the game, you can tone down the difficulty a bit. Furthermore, the game relies on cutscenes to deliver its story, instead of the traditional use of environmental clues and item descriptions. Stellar Blade also has a skill tree, so players can shape their Eve to suit their playstyle more.
