Want to know how to get Sinnoh starters in the Teal Mask DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet? Stick around. We’ll walk you through the process with some helpful tips to score yourself a new starter in Kitakami.
On top of several new species of Pokémon introduced in the Teal Mask DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, you can add a Sinnoh starter to your team. However, you won’t find these classic ‘mons roaming about the land of Kitakami. Instead, you’ll receive Chimchar, Piplup, or Turtwig as a gift from Professor Jacq early on in your journey with a bit of a twist. Hint: think less catch ’em all and more hatch ’em all. Here’s how you can snag your Sinnoh partner Pokémon on your school field trip.
- Only one code for a Hisuian Zoroark can be used in either the Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet game. Upon purchase of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC, an email with your code will be sent to the email address registered to your Nintendo Account. From the in-game menu, go to the Poké Portal, then select Mystery Gift, select Get with Code/Password, and then enter your code.
- The Mystery Gift option can be found within the Poké Portal menu option in the X menu after you unlock the feature in the Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet game. (This occurs after about 1 to 1.5 hours of gameplay, though individual gameplay time may vary.) An internet connection and a Nintendo Account is required to redeem the item in game. A Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required. Each item can only be redeemed once.
How to Obtain the Sinnoh Starters in The Teal Mask
Soon after you arrive in Mossui Town, you’ll receive a random Sinnoh starter egg from Professor Jacq. As you travel to visit each of the three signpost destinations alongside your new friend, Kieran, you’ll stumble upon the professor on Reveler’s Road just past the red arch. This is located right outside of town on your way to the second signpost in Kitakami Hall.
There, the professor will stop you for an impromptu picnic, during which he entrusts you with a Pokémon egg. Inside lies one of the Gen IV starters:
- Chimchar, a spunky Fire-type that evolves into Monferno and Infernape.
- Piplup, a go-with-the-flow Water-type that evolves into Prinplup and Empoleon.
- Turtwig, a trusty Grass-type that evolves into Grotle and Torterra.
Upon receiving the egg, you can add it to your party or send it to one of your PC boxes. I recommend hatching your egg sooner rather than later to see which of the three Sinnoh starters you’ve received. Don’t make the same mistake I did by overlooking the task only to realize I missed out on adding a brand-new partner to my team.
Hatching Your Sinnoh Starter Egg in The Teal Mask
You can hatch your Pokémon egg as soon as you receive it from Professor Jacq. While the partner Pokémon you receive is totally random, each of the three Sinnoh starters makes an excellent addition to any team. Dedicate some time to hatching your egg and you’ll soon have a new team member.
To speed up the hatching process, I recommend adding a Pokémon with the Flame Body ability to your party. Steam Engine will also do. This will create a warm and welcoming environment for the hatchling. With an able Pokémon like Talonflame or Volcarona on your team, dash around on Koraidon or Miraidon until your starter hatches. Altogether, this will only take a minute or so of your time.
For whatever reason, entries for the Sinnoh starters won’t be added to your Paldea or Kitakami Pokédex once obtained. We may see this updated with the next patch, but it’s not entirely uncommon for specific species to go unregistered.
How to Get All Three Sinnoh Starters in The Teal Mask
You’ll only receive one egg from Professor Jacq in The Teal Mask, barring you from obtaining all three Sinnoh starters on your own. To get the complete trio, you’ll need to trade Pokémon with friends or other players. Teal Mask trade codes are taking off following launch, so keep an eye out for like-minded trainers in search of these partner Pokémon.
Apart from trading, you can also opt to transfer past partners from Pokémon HOME to your game’s save file. This is the most convenient method to get all three Sinnoh starters, provided you’ve previously obtained them.
