One of many upcoming game titles covered in the recent PlayStation Showcase was Phantom Blade 0, a steampunk-style RPG chock full of heavy-handed combat with a Chinese martial arts influence. While much has been left to the imagination, the new title has quickly caught the attention of tough-to-impress gamers thanks to its smooth and ambitious fighting elements. Many are now eager to see how this system will play out at launch, begging the question: What is the release date for Phantom Blade 0?

When is Phantom Blade 0 Coming Out?
While the announcement trailer for Phantom Blade 0 dropped during the PlayStation Showcase just last month, an official release date for the new title has yet to be confirmed. At the trailer’s end, we are assured that the broody, action-packed RPG is coming soon, but developer S-Game has stated the game is still in the works. With that, we estimate a release window of late 2023 or early 2024 launch.
Despite the lack of information regarding the time of its arrival, it seems that Phantom Blade 0 has already earned an eager and dedicated following of potential fans who were blown away by the fighting style showcased in the game’s announcement trailer. Admittedly, the gameplay is visually stunning, seeming to promise both clean and complicated combat. Viewers are maintaining a healthy amount of skepticism, however, hoping the PlayStation exclusive will deliver when it arrives.
What is Phantom Blade 0 About?
Phantom Blade 0 is somewhat of a rebirth of its creator’s original work, Rainblood. Soulframe Liang, the founder and CEO of S-Game, went into detail about the story within Phantom Blade 0 in a PlayStation blog post, stating the dark RPG will take place in a universe called Phantom World. Drawing elements from both steampunk and Chinese martial arts, Liang lovingly refers to the game’s style as “Kungfupunk.”
In Phantom Blade 0, you will play as the main character named Soul, a skilled assassin who once served an organization referred to as The Order. The fierce combatant was framed for the murder of The Order’s patriarch, and, following the events of a near-fatal manhunt, Soul is saved by a healer’s cure that will last a mere 66 days. In a fight against the clock, you’ll need to face off against a roster of heinous enemies and locate the mastermind controlling Soul’s fate.
As we await more details regarding the upcoming release of Phantom Blade 0, there is certainly a lot to unpack in terms of the new title’s compelling storyline and concise combat. Sucker Punch meets Monster Hunter in this highly anticipated addition to the Phantom Blade series.
