Starfield is one of the most anticipated games of 2023. It represents Bethesda’s first new IP in about 25 years. As such, there is a lot of hype surrounding the title. The upcoming space opera RPG has players all over the world chomping at the bit to play it.
But will it release on Sony’s consoles or even be a PlayStation exclusive? We’ll answer those questions in this article.
When Is Starfield Coming Out on PS5
After long business and legal back-and-forth, it appears that Starfield won’t be coming to PlayStation 5 at all. The culprit lies in the acquisition of Zenimax Media by Microsoft, which is in turn Bethesda’s parent company This made all plans for a PS release fall through.
When Is Starfield Coming Out on PS4
Because of the reasons outlined above, Starfield won’t be coming to PlayStation 4 either. This effectively means that as matters currently stand, Starfield won’t be on any Sony consoles. Interestingly, the game was supposed to come to both PS consoles before, but those business deals complicated the matter.
Is Starfield a PlayStation Exclusive?
As mentioned previously, Zenimax Media owns Bethesda, the company developing Starfield. With Zenimax being bought by Microsoft, the makers of Xbox, that means that Starfield won’t be a PlayStation exclusive.
Moreover, it also means that Starfield won’t be coming to PS consoles at all. Prior to this development, Starfield was actually on its way to becoming a PlayStation exclusive. Yet due to the Zenimax acquisition, the tables have turned and it instead became an Xbox console exclusive instead.
This only serves to prove how seriously the two companies take their whole rivalry and the fan-dubbed “console wars.”
