Users of Macintosh computers have notoriously been getting the short end in gaming over the years. With Apple’s guardedness over their proprietary software and hardware, the developers would rather not bother, than spend resources to develop a game for a smaller audience. But will Starfield be released on Mac? Let’s find out.
Starfield, the upcoming open-world RPG from Bethesda, creators of Skyrim, Fallout, and Elder Scrolls, will be released on PC and Xbox consoles in September 2023 with plans to let you be a constellation explorer completing quests across light years of space and planets.
Will Starfield Be Released on Mac?
The short answer is, no, Starfield and Bethesda game studios don’t have a Mac release planned. As we outlined above, Macintosh platforms are notoriously difficult for developers to port their games to. But with Starfield, there are other concerns as well that have nothing to do with hardware.
While the game has been delayed before, there were also platform-related controversies behind the scenes. Bethesda’s parent company, Zenimax Media was recently acquired by Microsoft. As we all know, Microsoft is the developer behind Xbox series X, and as such, they chose to keep an amount of exclusivity for Starfield.
Therefore, even a PlayStation release was scrapped, with Starfield planned to initially release on PC and Xbox. What does that mean for Mac gamers? For now, there seem to be no plans for an intel Mac port of the game. That doesn’t mean that there won’t be one in the future. We will simply have to wait and see and follow any news about a Mac version after the game’s release to visit the settled systems show in the showcase trailer.
Will Mac Users still be able to play Starfield?
Mac users who are disappointed that Starfield will not be available on their platform at launch may still be able to play it through cloud gaming. Cloud gaming services like Xbox Cloud Gaming, GeForce Now, and Boosteroid allow you to stream games from remote servers to your Mac. This means that you might be able to play Starfield gameplay without having to download or install the game on your Mac.
