Curious if Helldivers 2 is coming to Xbox? You’re not alone. We have the answer to this burning question, straight from the source at Microsoft.
Helldivers 2 launched across PC and PlayStation consoles on February 8, taking the gaming community by storm. During its first week, it stole the top spot on Steam charts from top-performer, Palworld, driving the hype behind its highly-anticipated release.
Developed by Arrowhead Game Studios, Helldivers 2 was first revealed a few years ago in a massive leak on GeForce NOW, though its addition to the cloud gaming service’s library hasn’t panned out. In the same vein, the sci-fi shooter isn’t currently playable on Xbox consoles, either, leaving many hopeful Xbox fans out of the loop. Will Helldivers 2 release on Xbox in the future? Here’s what we know.

- Threats – Everything on every planet wants you dead. That’s what we’re dealing with. Each enemy has distinct and unpredictable characteristics, tactics, and behaviour – but they all fight ferociously and without fear or morality.
Is Helldivers 2 Coming to Xbox?
For now, there are no plans for Helldiver 2 to be released on Xbox consoles. While many Xbox gamers have hoped to see the game made available in the future, it’s unlikely that the demand will pan out. Publisher Sony Interactive owns the rights to the Helldivers series, which is playable on PC and PlayStation. Given that Xbox is one of Sony’s biggest competitors, it’s all but guaranteed that Helldivers 2 will remain exclusive to the publisher’s consoles. That said, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer doesn’t see what the fuss is about.
In an interview with Stephen Totilo in the Game File newsletter, Spencer chimed in with his own perspective, stating, “I’m not exactly sure who it helps in the industry by not being on Xbox.” While many players can agree, Spencer goes on to say that he “gets it,” considering the console’s legacy.
“I will say, when I look at Helldivers 2 — and it’s a great game; kudos to the team shipping on PC and PlayStation — I’m not exactly sure who it helps in the industry by not being on Xbox. If you try to twist yourself to say, like that benefited somebody somewhere, but I get it. There’s a legacy in console gaming that we’re going to benefit by shipping games and not putting them on other places. We do the same thing.” said Phil Spencer, Microsoft Gaming CEO.
Despite the debate, the news remains bittersweet. Having the game available on Xbox will only increase the sales, but Sony remain adamant in their decision. While Helldivers 2 is unlikely to arrive on Xbox consoles (or on Xbox Game Pass) down the line, those hoping to play can now purchase the game on PlayStation and PC.
Petition to Bring Helldivers 2 to Xbox Consoles
We have some crazy news for you. A couple of months ago, fans decided to take matters into their own hands. A new petition started on February 14, to bring Helldivers 2 to Xbox, advocating for more inclusion and less rivalry. This is in the spirit of unity and not allowing platform barriers to prevent gamers from enjoying this awesome game (and to increase the player count).
We’ll see how that works out, as it has over 110.000 signatures at this point, and the next goal is 150.000. But, unfortunately, it seems like the craze is over, and fewer and fewer people are joining the cause.
New Arrowhead CEO
There have been some changes in Arrowhead’s structure, and a new CEO has taken the reigns. Even though Arrowhead have always been open to adding Helldivers 2 to Xbox, this may change some things and possibly push this idea forward. Especially with the recent drop in the number of players, the addition of Xbox players may just be what Helldivers 2 needs at this point.
Helljumpers
Since so much time has passed with absolutely no changes on the whole “Helldivers 2 to Xbox” front, one studio decided to make their own Helldivers Xbox game. The Forge Falcons, a development studio for Halo Infinite games, is making a game mode for Halo inspired by Helldivers.
It seems to be a single map, where players will have to progress through a number of objectives while being attacked by AI-controlled enemies. They will even add their own take on Stratagems.
If nothing drastically changes, the Helljumpers will be released on June 28, 2024.
Summary
In summary, there is no word on Helldivers 2 coming to Xbox. It is published by Sony (they even own the IP) and it has already sold millions and millions of copies. Add the fact that there are more PS players worldwide than there are Xbox players, so there is no rush to sell even more. On the other hand, the rapid drop in Helldivers 2 player count could shake things up a bit, and maybe Sony will reconsider adding the Xbox players to the mix, to keep those numbers up and the game afloat.
