Are you wondering if GTA 6 will be released on PC? You’re not alone. We’ll cover everything there is to know about available platforms and Rockstar’s plans for the upcoming release.

We’ve finally received our first look at Grand Theft Auto 6 with a new game trailer from Rockstar Games. Spanning just over a minute, the video revealed our new protagonists as well as a visually stunning Vice City. While an exact release date has not yet been announced, we now know that the next GTA title is set to drop in 2025. This leaves at least a year for developers to tweak content, file size, and more. In the meantime, dedicated fans are looking forward to the first GTA release in over a decade, and many are curious whether the title will receive a PC release. Here’s what we know.

Will GTA 6 Get a PC Release?

When we finally received news on GTA 6 last week, it was revealed that the new installment will initially release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. However, a press release from Take-Two Interactive, which heads Rockstar Games, seems to confirm a PC release as well.

This news is bolstered by comments made by a former Rockstar Games developer, who has since provided some insight as to why we’ll likely see a PC release post-launch. Mike York, who previously worked as an animator at Rockstar New England, talked about the upcoming installment in a video posted to his YouTube channel, York Reacts. The former dev worked on GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 prior to leaving the branch, offering an inside perspective regarding the next entry’s potential.

He explained that developers have historically prioritized PlayStation releases, as this has proven to be lucrative. As such, the former animator wagers that this pattern will continue with GTA 6. This likely comes as a surprise to none, especially PC gamers.

“This is very important for everybody to remember: One of the main reasons why a PC port will take so long is because it’s different architecture and different components.”

That being said, York went on to cite a difference in mechanics as the primary reason why GTA 6 will launch on PC much later than its console counterparts. This is because individual PC builds tend to vary greatly — and consoles simply don’t share this complexity.

While York and longtime GTA players are free to speculate as to why and when we might receive a PC release, we have yet to receive any information from Rockstar Games. With this in mind, it’s tough to say what we can expect when it comes to a PC release. We’ll provide updates as they are revealed by Rockstar.
