What Engine Does GTA 6 Use?

Rockstar Games has not yet confirmed which engine GTA 6 will be using, but longtime fans of the franchise have come up with a few ideas based on the visuals showcased in the latest trailer for the game. Within the player base, it’s generally agreed upon that we can expect the game to run on the next version of Rockstar’s in-house engine, colloquially known as RAGE 9.

While this hasn’t been confirmed, there’s a solid amount of evidence to suggest that this trend will continue, as Rockstar titles have launched with the engine’s newest build since 2006. This is certainly compelling as far as speculation goes. Even so, some fans have suggested that we might see a change with the release of GTA 6.

Though not as popularized, some have proposed the possibility that the next GTA title could use Unreal Engine 5. However, most longtime players have simply made comparisons based on the impressive graphics featured in the game’s trailer rather than offering up any substantial claims that GTA 6 might stray from Rockstar’s traditional formula. In any case, we have no supported reason to believe the publisher will outsource when it comes to the game’s working build.
